cigars and scotch
Do Democrats honestly think that Big Oil Execs are sitting around smoking cigars and sipping Scotch….?

counting money and laughing at the plight of the American people??
Heisenberg…If you are catering, then I assume it’s for some sort of party….and that is what happens at parties.

But some people fail to realize that these people actually have to work. These companies don’t run themselves….

have you ever had a meal with Kennedy, Gore, Rockefeller and Dodd…? The smoke and booze flows so freely at one of their lunches you’d think Howard Dean was actually Caligula in disguise…

no, “vicitimhood” has been their slogan since Tammany Hall so all that “fat cat” stuff is just for show….Big Oil means BIG TAX REVENUE and BIG DONATIONS to their pet projects (in return for turning down the “evil oil” rhetoric)…

Bush and Cheny may be “oil men”….but there are plenty of “oil groupies” on the other side of the aisle as well…

whiskey cigars

A weather-beaten Eastwood with chiseled jaws readying his gun at the first knock of door, letting in the nasty old crook to his most coveted province! After the fight that followed which did not even need a shot, Eastwood would walk in slow motion, grab a drink and bite off his cigar’s end, ready to light up, still surveying the crook for life – a classical “Western” moment and some part of it livable in real life!

Let’s face it this time – what could be a better way to wind up the delightful day than relax and set ablaze each sip of our favorite drink (single malt scotch is what I like) with a heavenly cigar! Cigars and whiskey are seriously two of the finest things in life and when working in a group, the two can invoke the most enchanting of experiences. It works for me and I see no reason why it would not for you or anyone else!

It has taken some hundreds of judges, several brain storming (rather “tongue storming”) events and tasting sessions (mostly) in Cuba and Scotland to actually cherish the experience. The partnership between the asserters of two of the finest relaxants on the planet, that is, cigars and whiskey, has avowed this delicate combination as one of the finest, that human civilization could ever conceive. My last visit to Paris for celebrating the anniversary of a world renowned lighter brand provided me with yet another reason to glorify the cause, where I had the opportunity to cherish this paradisiacal combination of Havana and Scotland – cigars and single malt. Ever since, I am easily disposed to battle whoever opposes the heavenly combination of cigars with whiskey, reasoning as wastage of taste.

Refinement on earth for me, of course, is now defined by single malt whiskey, illuminated by the glow of the best rolls. Cultivating on my recently refined tastes owing to the newly developed liking (which, in no time, turned into an obsession); I started pairing these two manifestations of refinement in various combinations conceivable. And to the utter dismay of my contesters, I would be glad to gloat that a variety of cigars complement a variety of whiskeys. However, my favorite amongst all remains no more than mild single malt lighted with a medium/full-bodied cigar (preferably, Cuban).

A lighted Cohiba Siglo IV and a glass of Highland Park Single Malt Scotch make a stunning pair and these are the names that reflexively pop out of my mouth when asked to brand my love for the delicate ecstasy. A Partagas D 4 also does go really well with a Lagavulin Single Malt. However, (high time I stopped being nepotistic) there are certain cigars that just do not go with whiskeys – scotch or not..! I do not need to name any because once one cultivates a taste for it, it is quite easy to decipher an odd pair!

cigars scotch

The cigar has long been seen as a luxury of the rich and famous.  Pictures of well-heeled men drawing on different types of cigars and nursing a glass of aged brandy have been well documented and immortalized in movies and TV.  If you are getting curious about cigars and want to loosen up with a stogie and an adult beverage after a hard day’s work, here are a few hints to get you going.

Traditionally, cigars have been mated with a hard liquor.  Popular liquors include brandy, rum, and whiskey.  It has been debated that good cigars should always be matched with a potent drink that has a suggestion of sweetness.  Cigar smokers have long savored these popular unions.  For ages, the idea of pairing different types of cigars with beer has gone overlooked.

But why overlook good old beer?  Recently, the trend has been to pair cigars with various varieties of beer as it seems that as cigars have entered the mainstream.  What better way to enjoy a puff of this newly popularized delicacy than to mate it with beer?  Pairing a better cigar with a satisfactory beer is not an easy feat, but when attained is well worth the effort.  Much of the pairing off has to do with your expertise.  If you are a beginner, you will in all likelihood need help in mating your particular cigar with the proper beer.  If you have a more knowledgeable taste, and you recognize what you like, you can probably make a connection between certain types of cigars and a great beer.

As cigars are so strong and flavorsome, one of the challenges is to find a beer that complements the strength of many types of cigars.  For that reason, many types of cigars will match nicely with a good barley wine or a single malt scotch.  If your cigar can be distinguished as spicy, woody, with a hint of cedar, try matching it with a barley wine.  The fruity tinge of a barely wine ought to complement nicely with the pungent flavor of your cigar.  The combination of a savory cigar with a somewhat fruity beer can also create a taste that heightens the qualities in each significantly.

If you don’t have a clue as to which flavor combinations could work, try out different ones.  First, come up with the types of cigars that you like.  Then try to distinguish the characteristics that you enjoy about it.  Only then find a beer whose flavor you think might go well with the cigar.  Many unthinkable combinations have been arrived at this way.

cigar bottle

A tattered parchment was recently discovered stuffed inside a Southwark premium lager beer bottle at the northern end of Kangaroo Alley. After carbon dating for authenticity and extensive study by the top scientific minds available it is reasoned that these are the musings of a curmudgeon who smokes too much, drinks too much and spends way too much time napping on the sofa with his dog.

I don’t particularly enjoy parting with two Jackson’s and a Lincoln to fill up my gas tank but it is hilarious to hear folks complain about the high price of gasoline while standing in line at Starbucks eager to pay $4 for two ounces of coffee, some milk and foam.

Next time you are in Las Vegas debating whether you should drop $35 on a cigar consider this; the most expensive cigar is a limited edition Cohiba called the Behike, it equates out to $420 per stick.

The most expensive bottle of wine on record is a 1787 Chateau Lafite once belonging to Thomas Jefferson that sold at auction for $160,000. That is some expensive vinegar.

That $4 cup of coffee from Starbucks is beginning to look like a bargain.

Samuel Adams sells its limited edition Utopia beer for $100 per bottle; however a gentleman referred to simply as Mr. B. paid $2,595 for a beer in a Hong Kong bar. It was charged to his credit card and subsequently paid. I hope he at least got a kiss from the barmaid.

The current record holder for the most expensive painting is Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Portrait of Dr. Gachet’ which sold for $82 million.

Still fretting over whether you should buy or lease your next motorcar, perhaps I can interest you in a 1967 Ferrari P4 for a cool $15 million? Sorry, CD player not included.

If you are more of the sea-faring type then perhaps you should consider the Annaliesse, a 280 foot mega cruise ship; it can be yours for a mere $103 million and is considered the most expensive private yacht.

Forget flying the friendly skies, own them in your very own $260 million FA-22 Raptor. Arguably the world’s most expensive jet.

Well, my cigar is spent and I can see the bottom of the glass. Where’s Max? I feel a nap coming on.
