Jamaica, located in the Caribbean Sea, not far from Cuba, is an island well known for its historic tradition of cigar manufacturing. The distribution of cigars, throughout the United States and the rest of the world, has been conducted from Jamaica for hundreds of years. The strong tradition and culture of Jamaican cigars is world renowned. For those of us who enjoy smoking cigars, there is no greater pleasure than a cigar which has been hand-rolled using premium Jamaican tobacco. The climate and soil of Jamaica is very similar to that of Cuba.  This led to a strong and thriving tobacco industry.  The tobacco leaves grown in Jamaica are used to create fine Jamaican cigars using centuries old methods.  In past years, the cigar industry was one of the most successful industries in Jamaica, but economic and weather conditions led to a decline in the Jamaican cigar industry.  These conditions included an increase in labor costs as well as a severe hurricane in 1988.  If it were not for the efforts of Barrington House Premium Jamaican Cigars, the Jamaican cigar industry might have collapsed entirely and the rich, historic tradition of Jamaica cigars would have been lost.

Barrington Adams, of Barrington House Premium Jamaican Cigars, has been the source of the revival of cigar manufacturing in Jamaica. He took the charge of Barrington House in order to give something back to his native Jamaica. Barrington Adams was a successful businessman in New York City, when he traveled to Jamaica in the 1990s to discover the cigar industry in a state of near collapse.  Jimmy Chang, who had risen to near cult-like status as the master blender for the Cuban Montecristo and left Cuba after the revolution to settle in Jamaica to run the heralded Combined Tobacco Company, had suffered a severe stroke and was extremely disabled.  Mr. Adams discovered that the employees of Combined Tobacco had not been paid for over six months.  Mr. Adams then took over the company, changing the name to Barrington House Premium Jamaican Cigars.   Making a determination to lead the Jamaican cigar industry back to its former status as one of the world’s premier sources of fine cigars, Mr. Adams reinvests 100% of the income derived from sales back into the company.  For him, it is a labor of love and a chance to give back to the land which always retained a special place in his heart.

Barrington House is the only producer of true Jamaican premium cigars.  Other companies may label their cigars “Jamaican” or “Jamaica”, but only Barrington House manufactures premium cigars in Jamaica, hand-rolled, using only the finest prime Jamaican tobacco.

Barrington House has created several lines of premium cigars, ranging from those that use Jamaican leaf as filler to the reintroduction of the famous Santa Cruz Jamaican Puro.  The fine art and traditions used by Barrington House employ the finest blends, such as that used in the original Jamaican Macanudo first blended by Jimmy Chang (Barrington House is not presently associated with Macanudo which is now a registered trademark owned by General Cigar Company). Jimmy Chang’s original Jamaican blend is available as the “Guaranteed Jamaican Founders Edition” and as the vintage “Fundadores” available through Barrington House.

Barrington House has brought back the finest traditions of the Jamaican cigar industry, long known for fine and mild tobaccos and the highest quality smoking experience.

Port wine, truffles, and a cigar- Too much?

My boyfriend & I are looking for a decadent way to end a fine meal we plan to have. How does this sound?: Fonseca Tawny 10 yr. Port, a couple of dark chocolate truffles, and a cigar afterwards. Any reccomendations on port & truffle combinations? Is adding a cigar afterwards too much? Neither of us have actually had any port wine before, but looking forward to trying it! I don’t want anything vintage, don’t want to deal with decantering & the price! Thanks!

the cigar is a perfect end to a decadent meal! My best reccomondation for the port wine is to go to a reputable store and ask the person who knows the most about wines. Explain your plan, telling him or her about the cigar and the truffles. This way they can find you a port that is reasonable, tasty, and goes well with the rest of the meal.

Do you find the royal coat of arms scary?

It really creeps me out every time I look at it, they are everywhere! Drinks, cigarettes, clothing, buildings – even churches!!… I cannot go a day without seeing it.
It looks like a satanic logo, especially the british one!

old cigarette ads

Tag lines can make or break a company. Nike’s “Just Do It” is arguably as famous as the company itself. For years, Coca Cola ads extolled “Coke Is It” and later “Coke Adds Life.” I can still recall (okay… I’m not that old, I just have a really good memory…) that “Winston tastes good, like a cigarette should” and that “I’d walk a mile for a Camel.” Numerous spins off have resulted from the “Got Milk?” campaign to the point where it has become part of pop culture. Apple implores the world to “Think Different,” Avis promises to “Try Harder,” and M&Ms will always “Melt in your mouth, not in your hands.”

An effective tag line is much more than a catchy slogan — it serves the added role of defining the company’s positioning statement. It highlights why the company is different, faster, less expensive or better than all the rest. If you want something that “Tastes great,” and is also “less filling,” then you know to reach for a Miller Lite. The old Timex ads convinced us that their watch “Takes a licking, and keeps on ticking.” In this case the positioning revolved around reliability and durability.

So why then, (and here’s where I give out my #1 tagline pet peeve) do we still have taglines that apologize for a company’s main product or service? I sometimes call them non-statement statements, and here are just a few past and present examples…

“We’re more than great coats” Burlington Coat Factory

“We more than just staffing” Advanced Staffing

“We’re more than a bus company” Pacific Western
“We’re more than just computer sales” Discount Computer Sales

“More than a bank” Arkansas Valley State Ban

You probably get the general idea. This type of tag line double speak is usually indicative of a deeper problem, the company brand name itself. In the case of Burlington Coat Factory, they had grown to a point in the late 90’s where coat sales only accounted for 20 percent of their total revenue. Rather than rebrand, they launched a $48 million advertising campaign with the tag line “We’re more than great coats.” There are a few problems with this type of strategy…

1. It takes an apologetic stance for the company’s main product line.

What’s wrong with being a bus company, or a bank, or a staffing company? And if there is something inherently wrong, then perhaps it’s time to re-examine the company name. If the name is too confining, too narrow, why spend $48 million to try to overcome a self made obstacle? It’s often less expensive and more effective to rebrand than to carpet bomb the media in an attempt to overwrite the literal meaning of a company name.

2. It doesn’t explain who you are, what you are or what you do.

As if apologizing for the company’s core product wasn’t bad enough, these type of ambivalent mottos leave the potential customer even less informed. If you’re “More than a bus company,” than what exactly are you? A truck company? An airline? A travel agency? Who knows!

These “More than” tag lines probably began with the intention of creating curiosity in the minds of consumers, as if they would immediately demand “Then tell me more! Tell me what you really do!” But in the busy reality of daily life, few will bother to inquire further. It just takes too much effort. And if the company can’t succinctly convey what they do, why should the consumer have to figure it out?

If you want to differentiate your company and it’s products, then create taglines that are informative and compelling – ones that will further position you in the eyes of your potential customer. If you want the company slogan to be truly great, it needs to be “more than a tag line.”

Buying vintage designer handbags is a fabulous way of broadening your handbag collection. You should determine whether the fashion bag will be used frequently or if you’re more interested in purchasing it as a collectable. You should follow some of these simple guidelines when purchasing and looking for your vintage handbag.

- You should buy from a reputable dealer. The dealer should be able to answer all your questions and have a reputation for being honest and fair.

- Do not buy anything that is worn out or stained more then just a little. Some wear and tear is a given, it will also add charm to the bag. But too much bag damage can only make the look purse used.

- Know that if you choose to have the bag restored or repaired you decrease the value of the purse. Vintage bags are given value not for only their popularity but for their workmanship.

- Details such does the bag closes properly would one your major concerns. But you could pay top dollar because it could be of the first bags to use magnetic clasping. But perhaps you might be more interested in the appearance rather then the ingenuity and history of the bag.

- Vintage designer bags can be pricey, they can range from a couple of hundred to thousands of dollars. The price depends on the condition, design, rarity, uniqueness, adornments which could be beading, the materials from which the bag was made from and the age of the bag.

- If you shop online for a vintage fashion designer handbag, trying using different search words such as, purse, bugs, luggage, kids bags, handbags, vintage purses, vintage bags, vintage designer bags, lunch box purses, teen purse, kids purse ,cigar box purses, and so on. Also look for an online shop or boutique that offers great descriptions in details on the items they sell. A description of bag ti self, the age, and a full list of any flaws also a history background on the bag.

A vintage designer bag is right for you if you want a genuine Versace, Gucci or Hermes bag. Selecting your vintage bag can be exciting in its own right. Just do a little research on what’s considered vintage or used. The more value and age the bag has the more likely it will be considered vintage. After all it is a one of kind and no value can be set on that.
