cigars making

Since the nineteenth century, Key West has comprised one on the historic hubs of cigar tradition. Erstwhile boasting more cigar factories per capita than anywhere else on the globe, Key West had always had a major part in the cigar industry. Shortly after the U.S. Civil War , this town turned into a Mecca for Cuban citizens taking flight from their nation’s revolution against Spain. By the late 1870’s there were over 100 factories making cigars.

Cuban influence in Key West commenced on a massive scale in 1868 when the first war against Spanish authority created a mass exodus. When Cubans confronted forced conscription into the Spanish army to battle against their countrymen, thousands of skilled cigar craftsmen and their families fled their native land.

On a single September day in 1869, over 2,000 Cubans lined the wharves of the Havana to escape their motherland. While some left for New York City or New Orleans, the majority got on steamships for the 12-hour trip to a destination ninety miles northward, a place Cubans called Cayo Hueso, today’s Key West.

The civil war against Spain died by 1878, nonetheless it created social turbulence in Key West as Cuban emigrants kept on arriving intermittently for decades, literally revolutionizing Key West’s social fabric and economy.

Prior to 1868, Key West had fewer than 500 occupants, notable chiefly for taking riches from shipwrecks, but a fresh form of riches was about to come when Cuban émigrés, with talented cigar making skills, descended in the thousands in the matter of a year or two.

At the apex of the industry, Key West constituted the biggest cigar-producing town in the nation. It bragged of fifty-seven major manufacturers of cigars–many of whom resettled from Havana–and each hired between five and five hundred workers. In 1883 exclusively, 42 million hand-rolled cigars were made.

To house their cigar laborers, factory owners frequently constructed little cottages–bungalow-style structures principally of frame construction–and rented them out for low sums. To assure an ample supply of laborers, these homes were adjacent to manufacturing plants. These structures still comprise the biggest category of frame vernacular (simple structures, made of wood with few or no ornamental details) in Key West proper.

They were built from termite-proof Dade County pine with high ceilings for ventilation. They were elevated off the ground, allowing air to flow under the houses where roosters and hens lived and were part of the family, raised for eggs or meat or were trained for cock fights.

Although little by today’s criteria, these cottages were far better than living circumstances in Havana they were surely far superior to condemnable tenement houses in Northern cities. Many times a cigar artisan would change jobs to another factory simply to have a newer house to live in. These homes were offered for inexpensive rent or with the option to purchase at a reasonable price to maintain a stable work force.

With good homes, high wages and the freedom to support the revolution, the cigar artisans lived well. Their smart unions secured significant strength, and while many labor union workers in the North were cowered in deplorable tenement lodgings, Key West cigarworkers were basking in paradise. Even their multiple strikes, which eventually helped bring about the decline of the cigar industry, reflected the luxuriousness of their situation. In the strike of 1918, work stopped, as was common, until the union demands were filled. The requests: no brooming before 6 a.m., ice in the drinking water, and coal, not wood, as fuel for wintertime heating.

The cigar cottages have braved the test of time. Most of these Key West buildings are tiny, only 300 or 400 square feet. They often have porches, little yards with picket fences and hardly any grass to mow. The cottages were created from Dade County pine by ship’s carpenters, who built with a tongue-and-groove technique which endures.

Property assessments are high, crime is low and the clime is near flawless. The cottages are adequate for one or two friendly people to dwell in–when you can be outdoors 350 days of the year. Key West has turned into such a desirable eden for artists, the wealthy and retirees that these rustic cottages now cost at the least $125,000–if you can find one.

The Cuba Tobbaco Trading, Thompson Cigar Company, Edwards Pipe & Tobacco, The Ybor City, and Casa Fuente Cigar Bar are among the well-known cigar shops in the USA found in three cigar cities -Tampa, Miami and Las Vegas.

If you are a cigar aficionado searching for some affable city where you can lap up a smoke, you sure can find them. Miami, Florida provides a profuse Cuban cigar ethnicity. Tampa, Florida is celebrated for a vivid history of cigar. Las Vegas offers you recreational galore and smoking delight.

Miami, Florida is one place where the finest cigars are sold. Little Havana is an area of the city that is greatly entrenched in Cuban cigar customs. May Cuban settlers own cigar specialty shops there. The Cuba Tobacco Trading by Pedro and Peter Bello is one of the most sought after shops in Miami.

Tampa is prominent for some its cigar retailers such as Thompson Cigar Company and Edwards Pipe & Tobacco. The Ybor City, on the other hand, was the late 18th century’s Cigar Capital of the World. It is now evolved into a favorite entertainment quarter.

The Edward’s Pipe & Tobacco has also stores in Colorado, and North Dallas. The store has been offering eclectic pipes, cigars and a wide collection of accessories like lighters. It’s been in the business since 1964.

Thompson Cigar Company was established in Key West, Florida in 1915. Thompson is USA’s oldest mail order cigar business, which still carries the Postal Permit number 1 for Tampa, Florida. The company’s commitment to supply an extensive choice of products at sensible prices continues. Thompson Cigar Company also owns and runs the country’s biggest supply storage humidor, which was specially developed to ensure the freshness and quality of each tobacco sold.

The company’s call center that’s consists of 200 customer-oriented, courteous staff provides answers to your concerns regarding cigar. You can place your order online or you can visit Thomson Cigar store in Tampa, Monday through Saturdays.

The Ybor City adjacent to downtown Tampa has a tradition of cigar production. Tired of constant political strife of his country, Don Vicente Martinez Ybor, owner of a cigar factory in Cuba, escaped to Tampa, Florida and set up his cigar territory there. With the flourishing of Ybor’s factories, Jewish, Cuban, and Italian settlers were drawn to either establish their own trades or work in the factories. Renowned as the Ybor City, the locality contained 200 cigar factories and 12,000 cigar makers or tabaqueros generating an approximated 700 million cigars annually. However, the Ybor City went to seed when the ban and depression plagued the region. The Ybor City developed into a National Historical Landmark over the passing of so many years. Nowadays, tourists are fascinated with the vivaciousness of its ambiance, distinctiveness of its history, and idiosyncrasies of its architecture. This bubbly Latin district even takes pride in its own fermented beer referred to as the Ybor Gold.

Cigars are manually rolled even now by expert tabaqueros, and Roberto Ramirez is one of the most illustrious. Born in Cuba, and ranked among the world’s top ten greatest cigar rollers, Roberto is one of the White House’s guests tasked to exhibit his expertise. Ybor City guests can pay a visit to Gonzalez Martinez Cigar Factory found on 21st Street and 7th Avenue and see the handiwork of pro tabaqueros who flaunt their skill everyday.

Casa Fuente Cigar Bar is a smoker’s haven in Las Vegas. When you’re in the city, be sure to stop at Casa Fuente that’s located at the Caesar’s Palace. Casa Fuente is more than just a family store selling Arturo Fuente cigars; it is a bar that offers a choice of beverages like wines and cocktails, too. The Fuente cigars are trendy, exclusive products that come from Dominican Republic.

The Cuban-themed establishment of Casa Fuente is welcoming, with mosaic-designed floors and Fuente family’s portraits adorns the interior.

oasis cigarettes and alcohol album

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

With the release of Dig Out Your Soul last week, the British rock band Oasis has now released seven studio albums (along with the B-Sides collection The Masterplan.) In this article I’ll give a short overview of each of those seven studio albums. If you are new to Oasis, you can use this article as a guide to which Oasis albums you’d like to buy first.

Oasis broke onto the UK scene in a big way with their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994. Many music critics and Oasis fans still think Definitely Maybe is their best album to date. It’s their only album where every song is sang by Liam Gallagher (Noel Gallagher sings at least one song on each album released since.)

With songs like “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star,” “Columbia,” “Supersonic,” “Bring It On Down,” & “Cigarettes and Alcohol” it’s hard to argue against Definitely Maybe being the most “rock” of all Oasis albums. But while it’s heavy on the rock, it also has some transcendent sing along (but still rocking) songs such as “Live Forever” & “Slide Away.” Many Oasis fans still think “Live Forever” is the best song they’ve ever done.

They followed up with 1995’s (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and it was an even bigger success commercially as it really broke the band big time in the United States behind the success of “Champagne Supernova,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” and of course “Wonderwall.”

“Wonderwall” is one of the most popular songs of the entire 1990s as shown by it’s constant high rankings on the “most played tracks” charts on Last.FM even 13 years after it’s release.

Besides those three hits the album also includes Oasis classics such as “Some Might Say,” & “Cast No Shadow.” If you’re more into melodies than rock then Morning Glory? may be a better choice for you than Definitely Maybe (not that it doesn’t also have some great melodies.)

1997’s Be Here Now was considered by many to be a big disappointment at the time but I think it has aged pretty well. Now some of it’s excesses seem kind of endearing although others sometimes not as much (particularly the fact that all of the songs are about two minutes too long.)

I still think “D’You Know What I Mean?” is one of the best songs Oasis has recorded. It’s got a great psychedelic rock stomp. It’s a direction I would have liked to see them go more towards. “Magic Pie,” “Don’t Go Away,” & “Fade In-Out” are other highlights for me.

2000’s Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is an album I liked a lot when it was first released as I felt it was an exciting new psychedelic turn for the band but unlike Be Here Now, I don’t think it’s aged as well.

That being said I am a big fan of the slow motion closer “Roll It Over” & the experimental (by Oasis standards) “Gas Panic!” I also think “Go Let It Out” & “Who Feels Love?” are underrated tracks.

I believe the band hit a low point (so far) with 2002’s Heathen Chemistry. While it had a couple of decent songs like the opener “The Hindu Times” and Liam Gallagher’s “Songbird” overall it’s easily their worst album in my opinion. The ballads are too hokey and the rockers don’t connect.

2005’s Don’t Believe the Truth was a return to form for the band. Songs like “Love Like A Bomb,” “The Importance Of Being Idle,” & “Guess God Thinks I’m Abel” along with the beautiful closer “Let There Be Love” make for a fantastic album that I think ranks up there with their ’90s work in some ways.

And this year Oasis released their 7th album, Dig Out Your Soul. While Don’t Believe the Truth was a return to form, Dig Out Your Soul is an advancement to a new sounds for Oasis. Every song (save maybe “Ain’t Got Nothin’”)sounds like a vital part of the album. Unlike most of their albums, there isn’t much in the way of “obvious singles” on the album but in a way that makes it even better. It seems to just fit together as a whole. I highly recommend it if you are an Oasis fan and even if you are not.

Are you a hobby person & or crafter ? What is your Favorite ? How long have you been doing it ?

Let me know your age, and how you got started ! It would also be interisting to know where you are from . I live in Florida , and I have several crafts I enjoy . I do Scrapbooking , floral arranging , plastic canvas needle point , I make Cigar box purses and gift baskets !
I’m 52 yrs. old , and my late Aunt Betty got me started crafting 30 years ago to keep me busy while my children were away for the summer to keep me from going crazy !

I am 26, and I crochet a lot; but I also make jewelry. The jewelry I make is under the ‘chainmaille’ or ‘maile’ category. I got into that when I went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival and saw a bracelet that I liked. My boyfriend at the time bought it for me, and after I got home I noticed it wasn’t of the best craftsmanship and decided I could do better. I did some research online for supplies and have been making and selling it for 6 years.

park drive cigarettes
Are apartment complexes required to have sufficient parking for tenants?

My husband and I live in an apartment complex where parking has always been somewhat of an issue. He left last night at about 8:30pm to get a pack of cigarettes at the gas station across the street. When he came back his parking spot was gone and there was nowhere to park. He drove around the complex twice and there wasn’t a single spot to park. He ended up parking on the curb which is a fire lane. We have parked here and so have others and have never been towed. This morning when he was leaving for work his truck was gone and it turns out it was towed. So now he has to pay the towing fee. The complex has told tenants that there are enough spots for two vehicles per apartment. Are apartment complexes required to have sufficient parking for tenants? What can I do about this? Is there anyone I can contact to report this?

Apartments are not required to have “enough” parking, they are required to have a specific number of parking spaces per unit or bedroom, depending on the local authority. Unless those parking spaces are assigned, they don’t care, nor do they have a requirement to see to there being a parking space available for someone.

Furthermore, if the apartment building was built prior to the implementation of the current building codes [i.e. the parking requirements] and so they do not have enough spaces, they were probably considered grandfathered under the old laws and still deemed legal. That, again, depends on the local authority.

In other words, there is not much that can be done in this case other than complaining to the office. That does not require them to do anything, but a sufficient rouse about it on premises or with letters to the editor could raise local awareness enough so as to force reaction for fear of losing tenants.

ebay cigarettes

Millions of would-be entrepreneurs want to sell things on eBay. EBay is the #1 home-business opportunity in the world right now, so it’s natural that many are eager to find highly profitable items for re-sale on eBay. However, it’s important to know that there are certain items that can’t be sold. Here are a dozen of them …

Some items are copyright infringement and can actually land a seller in federal prison:

1. Knock offs of music, TV shows or movies. The “bootleg” movies, for example, are often made by guys who sneak a movie camera into a newly-released movie where presumably, they crouch behind a seat and make a crummy copy. There is a large production of these counterfeit items in Asia where US laws have no power.

2. Software and computer games can likewise be copied and their sale is illegal by all US laws.

Naturally, the items above may be sold if you have a copy that you purchased legitimately and no longer want.

3, The so-called “replica” market for handbags, designer sunglasses and clothing is definitely forbidden although these items are often sold in physical stores around the US. Ironically, when attending eBay Live In New Orleans in 2004, we found a store in one of their famous markets selling replica purses that were not allowed on eBay.

4. Lazy and less-than-honest sellers often steal copyrighted material from other sellers. This has happened to me many times and eBay has a program called VERO (Verified Rights Owner) that will remove offending auctions, although there seems to be no penalty attached to the seller, which is unfortunate.

5. Alcoholic beverage sales are not allowed although a beverage “container’, especially those of wine, may be sold for its value.

6. Cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco or coupons for such items are not permitted on eBay.com.

The EBay rules for collectible tobacco and alcohol containers are the same:

* The value of the item is in the collectible packaging, not in the wine/tobacco itself.

* The listing description should state that the package has not been opened, but that the twine/tobacco within is not for consumption.

* The collectible tobacco packaging must not be available at any retail outlet, and packaging must have a value that substantially exceeds the current retail price of that wine/tobacco product in the package.

* Sellers must take steps to ensure that the buyer of these collectibles is at least 18 years of age

7. Firearms are strictly regulated by US law and may not be sold on eBay.

8. Satellite and cable TV descramblers are forbidden by the Federal Trade Commission.

9. Animals and wildlife products may not be sold, which includes stuffed birds and pelts from endangered species. There are limited sales of ivory, tortoise shell, marine products and other items relating to animals. This area is quite complex and any would-be seller needs to thoroughly understand the various laws before getting involved in these sales.

10. Event tickets have state-by-state laws that make their sale complex. Some states, for instance, forbid anyone to make more than a few dollars in profit (or no profit at all) on the resale of tickets. For instance, Florida law states that tickets can be resold at no more than face value plus $1. In such states, these regulations apply only to buyers and sellers located in the same state as the actual event, meaning if a seller lives in Florida, he can’t profit from ticket sales to Florida events. However, if he lives in any of the other 39 states, this restriction doesn’t apply.

11. Listing a catalog of items that a seller offers for sale is forbidden. The only catalogs legally sold on eBay are collectible kinds, such as an old Sears Roebuck or Montgomery Ward’s catalog that is memorabilia and doesn’t offer current merchandise for sale.

12. Raffles and prizes are 100% prohibited. According to eBay, such promotions are highly regulated and may be unlawful in many states.

There are other kinds of merchandise that a seller may not sell on eBay, so carefully check eBay rules before listing anything. It’s much better to know the rules in advance of spending money that can’t be recouped.

7 stars cigarettes

The Italian football player Francesco Flachi’s negative verdict of a sixteen month suspension was already pronounced last year but hadn’t been made definite because the Italian Olympic Committee had raised an objection. The reason for the verdict was the failure of a drug test taken from the 31-year-old forward after a home game from his team U.C. Sampdoria against the Italian champion Inter Milan on January 28th 2007. The founded drug was cocaine. Flachi declared back then that the drug had been in a cigarette which an unknown person offered him. After over one year the International Court of Arbitration for Sport has officially confirmed the suspension and increased it even to a two year ban.

In the past years Flachi already hit one or two headlines. After finding out that Flachi and some of his team mates had passed on internal information about possible game moves to gamblers in September 2006 the Italian Football League suspended him for two month.

Football is today one of the most popular and worldwide most played sport and doping is extremely rare. That’s what we thought but actually not the truth. In the past years there were detected several cases all over the world. Within the Football World Cups there were so far four international players tested positive: 1974 Ernest Jean Joseph from Haiti, 1978 Willie Johnston from Scotland, 1986 Ramon Caldere from Spain and 1994 the back then 33-year-old Football icon Diego Maradona from Argentina failed a drug test as well. In his blood was found a high dose of the substance Ephedrin. Maradona was also having drug problems in his private live. In 2000 he even suffered from a heart attack caused by an overdose of cocaine.

Some cases have appeared in Germany as well. Of course everybody first denied any contact with this topic but several former football players and coaches confessed that they were involved in doping. The former football player and one of the worldwide best keepers in the ‘80s Harald Anton Schumacher, who everybody just called Toni, published 1987 as a form of interim result of his career the book “Kickoff” with the subtitle “Disclosure about the German Bundesliga”.

The today 54-year-old had made several reproaches to players, coaches and functionaries. He wrote for example that Eike Immel is a compulsive gambler, Olaf Thon is a lazy player and Paul Breitner is a smoker and drinker. He wrote as well about the topic doping in the Bundesliga. He admitted that he was trying out drugs in the practice. His statement was that he wanted it to stop. After that the drug test was introduced. But not everyone wanted to just accept his statements so he had has to bear the consequences.

After a board-meeting of the German Football Association the former president declared that Schumacher will not draft in the national team anymore due to the existing situation. After his 15-year career with the German Club 1.FC Köln he also had to leave his team and switched abroad.

In the past month more and more former players began to speak and start to remember that players in their vicinity were taking incited substances.
