Why raise tax on cigarettes to pay for health care?

Doing this means only a certain few pay for something everyone can have. Why not tax something everyone uses, like Milk, or the internet?
but then if everyone quits there is no funding.
so non-smokers benefit from others bad habit, then if you make more money than I do, shouldn’t you give me some for making taxes increase to pay for welfare?

Its a risk vs reward issue. Its a mathamatical formula. People that smoke on average (not all) cost more in health care then people that dont. Same with those that drink ect.

If you take 1000 people that dont smoke and take 1000 people that do. The 1000 people that do will cost more in health care then then the 1000 people that dont.

Its the same when you buy car insurances. They check your driving record. Take 1000 people that have never had a speeding ticket or been in a wreck. Take 1000 people that have 3 speeding tickets and a past wreck. Which 1000 people will cost more in auto insurance?

They can figure it out with statistics and they are pretty damn accurate. To answer your question, people who drink milk arent likely to get lung cancer that cost 500,000 to treat. They can get lung cancer. The they are less likely. In the model above with the 1000 people maybe 1 person gets lung cancer that doesnt smoke. On the other side, maybe 30-50 get it. Thats why they would tax it.

Smokers cost more money in health care then those that drink milk.

Smoking related illness and death cost 400 billion. And 500,000 died in United States alone. You are wrong in your analogy. Currently the non smokers are paying for your health care. They want to change it so the smokers pay it themselves. It would raise the tax on Cigarettes to cover smoking related illness. The figure below was from 2002. Last I heard it would actually be around 12 Dollars a pack. Thats how much the non smokers are paying in heath insurance for smokers to smoke. They are changing it so the smokers pay it. Nobody says you cant smoke but they say its unfair for the 75% of us that dont to pay your medical bills for smoking related illness. The only way to make it fair is to charge those that smoke. The money would only be used for smoking related illness, not accidents. We would all pay the same for that. But if you want to smoke you can, you just pay insurance to smoke.

The cost of one pack of cigarettes is increased by $7 when medical and other costs are included in the price.
{Morbidity and Mortality Weekly, Report 2002;51: 300-302}

*UPDATE*

Okay you arent making any sense. Non-Smokers dont benefit. Everybody pays the same exact amount for health insurance give or take. There will be a tax on cigarettes that goes to smoking related illness. Non-Smokers have no access to that money, why because they wont have smoking related illness. If everybody quit smoking, the health industry wouldnt need the extra 400 Billion a year to treat them. There is still money that everybody is paying for standard health care. Your argument makes no sense. The smokers arent paying everybodies health insurance, just smoking related illness. Ive never smoked so if I fall down the stairs and break my leg. The 400 Billion that was set aside from the sale of cigarettes doesnt pay for my broken leg. Thats earmarked for smoking related illness. My standard insurance that everybody pays for, pays for that. Now if im a smoker and get lung cancer. The 400 Billion that is set aside pays for that. That money comes from the sell of cigarettes.

To your second point. Many people dont pay any taxes, but still have have the same rights as people that do. You still have police service, fire service, roads to drive on, even though they dont make enough to pay taxes. People on welfare get their money from people that are better off. They already do your second point.

cigarette holder filter
Do cigarette holders really work to filter and make smoking ´healthyer´? I Iove smoking with them!?

MY cigarette holders have a plastic, disposable filter.

There ain’t nuthin gonna make smoking healthy, darlin’.

About the only advantage of cigarette holders is that your hands don’t end up smelling like cigarettes. Of course, since the rest of you is reeking of smoke, this makes very little difference.

Cigars are perishable products, and if not stored properly, cigars will dry out, become brittle, and lose their ability to provide exquisite smoking pleasure. To keep cigars at their peak freshness and flavor, they must be stored in a humidor, says Ourcigarettes.net, a leading online distributor of brand name, premium cigars from around the world.
When smoking cigars that are improperly stored, some of the following problems can occur: uneven or too rapid burn, harsh or bitter taste, broken wrapper, difficulty lighting or keeping the cigar lit, mold, or tiny holes in the cigar.
“Proper cigar storage is crucial,” said David Cagan, general manager of Ourcigarettes.net. “You wouldn’t leave your hard earned money lying around, or leave your car unlocked in a bad neighborhood. You protect the things you value, so why would you leave your cigars lying on your desk?”
Cigars shouldn’t be stored in the original cigar box because they require a critical element: proper humidity. In order to properly store a cigar, a fine balance must be maintained between the humidity and temperature at which they are stored. It is commonly agreed that 70% humidity and 70 degrees Fahrenheit is the best environment for long-term consistency.
All humidors require three essential components for maintaining humidity: a humidification unit attached to the inner lid of the humidor that includes housing; a substance to hold the moisture; and a hygrometer which allows you to check the humidity level of your humidor at a glance.
Humidors should also have durable hinges to ensure low-friction functioning for many years, and be well sealed and close tightly so that very little humidity may escape from the humidor. The basic construction of the humidor should ensure that high humidity inside the humidor will not result in deformations of the humidor case or lid and that the humidors will still close neatly after years of usage.
When using a humidor for the first time, it’s important to allow it time to “season.” This could take anywhere from a few days to a week or more depending on the size of the humidor. With brand new humidors it is helpful to use a sponge saturated in distilled water and “bathe” the inside walls of the humidor, followed up with a dry wipe to remove any water drops. Check the humidifier and hygrometer in the humidor until the humidity level reaches between 65-70%.

Luxury Cigarettes (Smokers ONLY)?

Avoid “stop smoking youll die of lung cancer!!!!” posts. Yes, I’m literate, I can read the surgeon generals warning. I know the risks, it’s my business.

For the smokers:

Ive been smoking off and on for abit. Never seriously, and never was in a condition where I couldn’t go without cigarettes. I usually smoke about a pack, MAYBE 2 packs in a MONTH.

Its a casual couple of times/week recreation for me, and it has never been an addiction nor will it be.

Given that I smoke because I actually like to, occasionally, and not because I’m addicted and need to buy cigarettes in large amounts, I want to look into luxury/imported cigarettes.

Ive narrowed my options down to:

Nat Sherman Lights
Nat Sherman Black and Gold
Treasurer Luxury White
Capri Lights

Whats the deal with benson and hedges? Are they luxury cigarettes?

Of these, which would you recommend. I find that, if shopping online, these arn’t even that expensive compared to generic brands.

thanks

Nat Sherman Black & Gold are cool looking, but I don’t think they’re particularly great. I like Nat Sherman Mints. B&H aren’t anything special. I like Gudang Garam Merah a lot, if you’re interested in cloves. Anyway, from those choices, I would probably pick Nat Sherman Lights.

Cigarette coupons are generally given out by sellers once a customer buys a particular number of cigarettes. They are also sometimes given out by guerilla marketing representatives, who hand out the coupons in bars as well as other adult social settings in an effort to get smokers to switch brands to their own specific brands. These coupons ensure that one doesn’t pay the full retail price on the cigarettes the next time they wish to buy them. A coupon can offer free or discounted cigarettes. The coupons are redeemable only for a discount on a purchase, not for cash. They are generally redeemable in any shop selling the particular brand of cigarettes.

Many major cigarette companies offer coupons today. Some of the major cigarette manufacturing companies offering coupons are:

Marlboro

Belair

Barclay

Misty

Basic

Pall Mall

Capri

Parliament

Carlton

Raleigh

GPC

Tareyton

KOOL

Viceroy

Lucky Strike

Virginia Slims, and many more.

Cigarette coupons are available in many places. They can be found in the weekend newspapers and supermarket flyers. Many websites offer free coupons once a person buys from their online stores. Websites and companies offer up to twenty dollars in savings when one joins their websites.

In some online stores, Marlboro cartons are available for $25 if bought after redeeming coupons. The online coupons can either be redeemed by simply typing a code or by printing them out to redeem them at a nearby store selling the particular brand of cigarettes.

However, the most definite way of obtaining cigarette coupons is to contact the company itself. Many cigarette manufacturers also maintain mailing lists to provide coupons to their customers.

Cigarettes provides detailed information on Cigarette Cases, Cigarette Coupons, Cigarette Holders, Cigarette Lighters and more. Cigarettes is affiliated with Cuban Cigars.

natural cigarettes brands

Is it true that celebrities really desist from endorsing cigarettes of all hues? Is it because they are conscious of their social responsibilities? Pictures of celebrities smoking appear glamorous and civilized, regardless of the context of the scene in a movie and thus it strikes a cord with teens. They are shown at parties with a cigarette which pushes young people to emulate them. The brands they smoke, Marlboro cigarettes, Camel, Winston, Virginia Slims, Salem etc, become a point of campus discussion.

Could it be that the stars themselves have been influenced by the glamour that was once associated with cigarettes? Perhaps if you spend long enough in the fantasy world of film you start to believe in the celluloid image. Just like Gloria Swanson in ‘Sunset Boulevard’ you lose touch with reality.

After all, it’s not so long ago that everybody who was somebody in Hollywood smoked and was proud of it. Cigarettes smoking was glamorous and sophisticated. Just think of the iconic image of Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ as Holly Golightly posing elegantly with her long cigarette holder, upswept chignon and little black dress.

What’s not so elegant of course is the way Audrey Hepburn succumbed to the smoking habit herself. Ignoring her mother’s ‘beauty tip’ to: “keep to six cigarettes a day only”, Hepburn managed two or three packs at her worst times – even smoking in her nun’s habit on the set of ‘The Nun’s Story’ and chain smoking her way through ‘My Fair Lady’. Unsurprisingly, she suffered from asthma for most of her life and died of cancer at only 63 – looking frail and old for her years. Not the kind of ending we like to imagine for the sublime Holly Golightly.
There’s no doubt that the very nature of the movie business has caused many a celebrity to start treading the nicotine path. Smoking is as common in movies today as it was back in the 1950’s although overall smoking in the population at large has reduced. Could it be that a cigarette has become the film prop of choice for actors looking for an easy way to inhabit another skin?
For some celebrities – tired of the constant criticism and the ciggy shots splashed across the tabloids – a kind of smoking defiance has crept in. As Gwyneth Paltrow once said, “I smoke and I’m not going to stop!” Paltrow – famous for getting through a pack of Camel Lights a day in her teens and twenties – has only very recently quit smoking. Perhaps she started to wonder how her fine, fair skin and ethereal beauty would cope with the collagen depletion in her fourties and fifties.
Some celebrities keep going with the smoking habit whatever the consequences and even if it impacts on their relationships. It’s well known that smoking was a bone of contention between Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston during their marriage. Brad Pitt is on record as saying how much he hated his ex-wife’s chain smoking. His disapproval didn’t cut much ice with Jennifer though – as recent paparazzi photos show. You have to ask why one of the worlds most loved and naturally attractive women would do this to themselves?
Similarly, iconic top model Kate Moss is regularly photographed with her cigarettes, a lighter and a mobile phone as her only fashion accessory. As a supreme super model its probably not surprising that Moss still manages to appear effortlessly elegant and beautiful however she’s photographed – at least for now. She certainly shows no signs of wanting to quit smoking any time soon. Perhaps like so many in her world – she associates smoking with thinness. Or perhaps, for her, it’s the least troubling of her addictions.
When celebrities do chose to quit its fascinating that the reasons given are so often not about looks. Catherine Zeta-Jones for instance, quit smoking – so she said – because she didn’t want her children to start asking questions. Not as you might have thought – because beauty is her personal trademark and smoking would kick-start skin aging and undermine her potential to earn huge sums of money.
Whatever the reasons celebrities have for smoking or for deciding to quit – the truth about skin damage and smoking very rarely features as a major factor in the debate. Well – we think it should. So our advice to all you celebrity smokers out there – carry on smoking if you want but don’t expect your fickle public not to notice the effect on your looks. And when you hit a deluded middle age you may still be able to say, like Gloria Swanson in ‘Sunset Boulevard’: “I’m ready for my close-up now Mr de Mille” – but only if it’s filmed in heavy soft-focus, expertly back-lit and then extensively re-touched afterwards.

cigar humidor online

Why have you started smoking cigar? This question was asked so many times and the interesting one answer is, ‘Buddy! It was like an essential thing to do whenever I was amid my business fraternity or colleagues’. Certainly, cigar especially premium cigars like Punch Cigars, CAO Cigars, Macanudo Cigars, Montecristo Cigars and so on have become a symbol of social status. Hence, we take special care of all those stuffs whichever are concerning with cigars.

Let’s begin with selection of cigar and in this context we must know that tobaccos used in cigar vary accordingly soil condition wherever they have yielded. Thus, different cigars require different sorts of care. Cuban cigars manufacture in Caribbean islands and their climate is tropical. So, cigars are required to be kept in a warm climate with a relatively high humidity. Similarly, there are a many different cigar stocking measures:
? Few cigars are available in aluminum tubes and this metal preserves them even in dry climates.
? It is suggested that you must store your cigars in the tightly fitted cupboard, drawer or box, perfectly aloof from radiators and other sources of heat.
? Avoid the storing of cigar in direct sunlight and prevent its exposure from sea breezes.
? In UK region, it proves tough to maintain 16-200C temperature and relative humidity 65-70%. So, cigar lovers prefer humidor to preserve their cigars.
? Sometimes, humidity in make-shift humidor remains low then we can use a damp sponge in a cup because it serves as a basic provider of humidity.
? Leave the base of cigar containers unvarnished and do not laminate inner portion. Just allow the cigars to breath.
All above mentioned measures are helpful but sometimes we feel that all these are not enough to keep our cigars safe. Once cigar is dried then throw it away. However, re-humidified method proved effective but it needs expert’s hands.

cigar humidors in canada

In the past fifteen years, the premium-cigar industry found itself in rebound. After decades of competition from cigarettes, the aging of its customer base, and overall consumer trends indicating a decline in smoking in general (we’ll return to this in a moment), many observers figured cigars were done for. Then came 1992. The fourth quarter of that year showed some of the first industry growth in years, and this trend metastasized in coming years. By 1996, the industry was seeing 36 percent first-quarter growth.

But cigars returned at an ironic time. High-profile class-action suits, controversy over Joe Camel, and decreasing general consumer interest in smoking, among other things, led to an increase in smoking bans in public buildings, offices, and, eventually, whole cities. Airports helped lead the trend; among the major travel hubs where you’re no longer welcome to light up are Los Angeles’ LAX and Dallas-Fort Worth.

All of which raises a question – if you’re a smoker going on vacation, what are your options?

Thankfully, the web site SmokingSection has, aggregating information sent in by smoking readers, listed and ranked over fifty major airports by their friendliness to smokers. Their rankings, like those of your high-school English teacher, run from A to E: A for airports where you can smoke by the waiting gate; E for airports where you not only can’t smoke indoors, but the nearest smoker-friendly outside areas require a small trip in themselves (and may be unacceptably far from takeoff gates).

So where should you travel if you want to smoke, not only when you reach your destination but on the way there? Well, the answer seems to be: Texas. The Lone Star State offers the only A-ranked airport out of the dozens surveyed. That’s Dallas Love Field, a smallish airport that receives only flights from major area transport provider Southwest Airlines. Frequently-flying cigar smokers who live in that wildcatter’s capital should feel lucky.

Texas offers us a B airport as well – these are the places where you can’t smoke near the gates, but that do offer smoker-friendly bars, restaurants, and/or lounges nearby. That would be at Lubbock – the same city from which Buddy Holly hailed. (But don’t take that as a bad omen.) Other southern and southwestern states are well-represented among the B airports, which makes sense, given the close links between many of these states and the history of the tobacco industry. Restaurants at New Mexico’s Albuquerque Airport, as well as at airports in Charlotte, North Carolina; Charleston, West Virginia; Phoenix, Arizona; Tucson, Arizona; Norfolk, Virginia; and – appropriately enough – Richmond, Virginia, that famous tobacco town. (Where would American smoking be without Virginia?)

Orange County, California, offers an airport named for John Wayne, and appropriately the tobacco-loving Duke’s namesake airport also offers B-class accommodations. So do the major regional airports in Tampa, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston, and New York City (both JFK and LaGuardia), in several large cities in Ohio (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton), in Fairbanks, Alaska; Moline, Illinois; and Ontario, Canada. Visitors to our nation’s capitol can also light up at a few of Washington, DC’s airport bars, though these are apparently hard to find.

It’s a good thing that the weather in Texas and California is generally fairly clement, because some major airports in both of these states ban all indoor smoking – but outdoor smoking areas are available at a conveniently close distance. The aforementioned Dallas-Fort Worth and LAX both disallow indoor smoking, which accounts for their C rating, but they do invite smoking customers to step outside. The Worcester, Massachusetts airport has a similar arrangement. (Enjoy that brisk Massachusetts air.) These are the C-class airports.

After that it gets dicier. Quite a few major American airports seem to fall into the D or E classes, with smoking accommodations within the airport that require a bit of a hike, or (in the case of the E-class airports) nothing at all but outside areas located far from gates. Many D airports offer those ubiquitous glass lounges where smokers are invited to light up and take a load off; these include Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Las Vegas (McCarran), and Atlanta (Hartfield). Happy hunting!

A Harley Davidson isn’t a motorcycle, a mindset, a ride, or a hog. It’s an entire culture within our national fabric complete with leather clothes, wild rides, thousands of t-shirts and darn good people. When you purchase a Harley you are entering a whole new world with friends in every corner and a way of life stretching out before you like a long scenic stretch of highway. For folks wanting to purchase a Harley who aren’t close to a dealership or who simply like to do things online there are several ways to be a part of this vibrant community.

Straight To The Dot

Harley-Davidson is a dealer site that really packs a punch. You can view videos of their motorcycles in action and get 360o pictures along with a full description and options available. You pick the motorcycle by picture so you don’t have to go through a bunch of names to see a bike you like. They also have a database of pre-owned Harleys and a great program called “Try-a-Bike” where you can see a list of demo ride events offered in cities around the country. Another bonus for people not quite sure if a Harley is for them, is found on the “Experience” page where you can go to plan a trip and rent a Harley while you are there. For great descriptions and community spirit, the dealer site is the place to start.

Local Dealers

Not only does Harley-Davidson have an amazing site, but each local dealer also has a site full of amenities and helpful links. As an example: Barnett Harley-Davidson in El Paso, Texas has a list of current bikes in inventory, internet specials, and clothing you can purchase online for you or a hog loving friend. A step in a more practical direction, the site also shows financial calculators, and lists financing options for customers with weak credit, and customers wanting to buy a privately owned Harley Davidson. You can also link to the Harley’s Owner Group (H.O.G.) in El Paso or see photos of the store and area. Each local website is different but they all offer helpful advice and sales online.

Blogs About Hogs

If you want advice from the riders themselves or just want to share thoughts and feelings about the Harley experience, there are hundreds of blogs on the internet directed to and written by Harley owners. Some blogs are highly technical parts manifests or advice on everything from oil changes to trickle chargers. Others are more introspective travel dairies of people who have undertaken a cross country journey on their bike. There are blogs that list the most helpful dealerships or where you can stop along a cross-country trip if you need a good meal or quick repair. Harley collectibles from Zippo lighters to leather chaps also have their own blog sites where collectors can buy and trade, discover release dates and relate tales of where they acquired their object.

Harley-Davidson is more than just a brand, it’s a people who like loud bikes, long rides, and shared experiences. Getting your Harley online is one of many ways go along for the ride.
