Physics of Music project: Testable Question?

My friend and I are doing a project for (high school) physics on music. We are building a cigar box guitar, but we need to have a testable question and collect data for it. Any ideas on what we can test? We have to write a proposal including the Purpose, our Hypothesis, Procedure (how we will collect data and analyze it).

I have 2 very old authentic cedar Honduran cigar boxes when cigars were only 25 cents each. Price boxes?

These boxes are gorgeous, one is 6″x6″x3 1/2″, the other is 9″ across, 7″ long, and only 1 1/2″ tall. Both made entirely of cedar and have all original papers and burnt work on wood. One is Dutch Masters, the other is Baccarat. They have great brass hardware to open/close and on the hinges in back. Each held 25 cigars.
I have a neighbor who wants to buy them from me ( they were given to me from an acquaintance years ago) but I have no idea how much to sell them for. Can you help with any ideas for pricing these rare boxes? Thanks in advance:-)

The Baccarat box is no older than 30 years old – it was introduced in 1978. Not sure about the DM.

Its very difficult to price something like these as its a very small, niche market and only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

Custom poster printing can really task the mind, especially if you are forced to create design after design everyday. Some designers can form pretty bad habits as they standardize and use shortcuts just to keep up with output. If you are one of these designers try and avoid such an event. We have compiled a list of several bad activities some designers commit when assigned a custom poster printing task. Just look below and see if you have committed any of them.

Avoid repetitive video games: Part of a creative lifestyle are the vices. We know. Some need coffee, others smoke cigarettes and some play video games. Playing PC or console games have been known to stunt creativity for hours. In fact some studies have shown that even just a few hours of gaming can kill your creativity for almost the whole day. Of course not all kinds of games do this. However, the key here is that repetitive video games slowly set the mind to its rules. After playing the game, the mind still has an unconscious remembrance of those repetitive rules. Hence when you turn your mind into a creative task like color poster printing your mind maybe stuck using video game logic for a time. That would not bode well for any creative activity.

How to avoid this? Simply do not play video games before any creative task like designing color posters. Do it after as a reward for a job well done. Not only will this help you in designing your custom posters, but it will also foster a good habit.

Do not work in too much comfort: Some people, when they comfortable with work start pampering themselves with their surroundings. Their workstations become a home away from home. Do not get us wrong here, that is a good idea actually. However, some people can get too comfortable with their surroundings. You may have a favorite pillow on your chair. Food maybe oozing from your drawers and almost literally growing in your table. You may dine on designer donuts while you talk to your printing company about lowering their poster prices. Bach and Mozart’s enchanting music may be spouting from a trusty music player. These and many other activities may help you relax, but too much of it can be a bad thing.

Try minimizing some of these things so that you do not get too distracted. Pillows can be a temptation to sleep. Depending on the music, you may either be inspired, or you may be too caught up in the lyrics for any judicious poster printing work. Remove a few of these perks to lessen their hold on your attention. Designing is still work after all.

Refrain from dwelling on other people’s posters: Looking at the competition is of course important. Some designers though fall into the trap of looking to much on other people’s work. This causes them to subtly copy a style or method unconsciously. This completely prevents any kind of original thought. Once you have the overall idea of how other people are doing their custom posters break off and design your own. Be your own designer.

Everyone knows that Cuban cigars are the most coveted cigars, renown worldwide for their smoothness and rich flavors. Indeed, Cuban cigars are so prized that many illegitimate dealers have been known to sell fake Cubans to unsuspecting cigar smokers. How do you tell if what you have is a fake or the real thing? First, make certain that you purchase your cigars from a legitimate dealer. Buying from your local tobacconist or a reputable mail order business can protect you from forking your money over for a box of fake cigars.

If you have an opportunity to purchase a box of purported Cuban cigars, but have your doubts, take the time to examine the box before purchasing it. Here are a few tips to help you spot the fakes from the real thing.

The most important thing to examine is the box. Authentic Cuban cigars will contain a green and white warranty seal on the left front side of the box. The seal will contain an insignia that has a picture of a shield and a hat. On the upper right hand corner of the box, you should find a white sticker that is placed diagonally with the word ‘Habanos’ printed on it. The overall appearance of the box should be neat and clean. If the box appears damaged, smudged, frayed, or marked, avoid it. If the color of the box is dull, don’t buy it. Even if the cigars are the real things, their quality may have suffered in transport. If you are in the market for Cohiba, Trinidad, or Q’dorsay brand cigars, know that all authentic Cohiba’s will contain the green and white warranty seal on the right hand side of the box.

On the bottom of the box of cigars, you should find a heat stamp with the words ‘Habanos.’ The heat stamp should be impressed onto the bottom of the box. Fake Cuban cigar boxes often find other ways to imprint this label, such as using rubber stamps or paper labels. You should also find a factory code stamp at the bottom that is stamped in green, blue or black ink. This stamp will tell you when and where the cigars were rolled.

If you can open the box, take the time to smell the tobacco. Cuban cigars will have a deep, rich aroma, unmistakable to dedicated cigar aficionados. If the smell is off, or very weak, chances are you do not have a box of authentic Cuban cigars in your hands. The cigars should be facing the same way, and the top row may appear slightly flattened. The caps on all the cigars should appear identical, and the foot of each cigar should be cut clean. The bands on all the cigars should also be identical, and should be arranged so that they face the same direction. If allowed, test the cigars out by pressing down on them. Feel along the entire length of each cigar, checking for soft or hard spots. The cigars should feel firm yet pliable.
