Harmful Physical Impacts of Smoking

Firstly, smoking can cause fatal heart diseases and strokes. This is because it leads to the build up of fatty deposits along the walls of your body’s blood vessels, making them narrow, stiffen, thicken or in the worst case scenario – blocked. The blocking of your blood vessels can in fact lead to a heart attack or a stroke which are potentially fatal occurrences. Did you know that almost 50% of the deaths caused by heart disease, before the age of 65 years, are directly related to smoking? Hence it is important that you quit smoking regardless of its side effects and withdrawal symptoms. You could visit stop smoking forums, or create a quit smoking diary for you to trace your progress in quitting smoking. For more professional advice, ask your doctor for some quit smoking techniques that you can use to help you stop smoking!

Secondly, another terrible physical effect of smoking is cancer. Did you know that cigarette smoke, whether inhaled directly or through second hand smoke, contains over 50 chemicals and substances that can cause cancer? If you do not want to be faced with the prospect of suffering from that incurable illness, you may want to stop smoking as soon as possible, at least due to the fact that smoking is the most common but at the same time the most easily preventable cause of lung cancer! You can prevent lung cancer or at least lower your risk substantially if you stop smoking. Join stop smoking groups or quit smoking support organizations for added encouragement and you will be on your way to quit smoking soon.  Do bear in mind that if one smokes for a longer time, the risk for developing a whole range of cancers also increase along with that, hence do not hesitate to begin a quit smoking program today.

Finally, smoking can also cause Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease. This is because it greatly narrows the airways leading to the lungs, and also destroys and harms the air sacs in the lungs, making breathing extremely difficult. Studies have shown that majority of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease cases are caused by smoking. Hence, if you want to avoid these terrible disease and physical illnesses, get a quit smoking patch or quit smoking Nicorette gum coupons today. Most importantly, find some support for your endeavour to stop smoking.

get my cigars

Why have you started smoking cigar? This question was asked so many times and the interesting one answer is, ‘Buddy! It was like an essential thing to do whenever I was amid my business fraternity or colleagues’. Certainly, cigar especially premium cigars like Punch Cigars, CAO Cigars, Macanudo Cigars, Montecristo Cigars and so on have become a symbol of social status. Hence, we take special care of all those stuffs whichever are concerning with cigars.

Let’s begin with selection of cigar and in this context we must know that tobaccos used in cigar vary accordingly soil condition wherever they have yielded. Thus, different cigars require different sorts of care. Cuban cigars manufacture in Caribbean islands and their climate is tropical. So, cigars are required to be kept in a warm climate with a relatively high humidity. Similarly, there are a many different cigar stocking measures:
? Few cigars are available in aluminum tubes and this metal preserves them even in dry climates.
? It is suggested that you must store your cigars in the tightly fitted cupboard, drawer or box, perfectly aloof from radiators and other sources of heat.
? Avoid the storing of cigar in direct sunlight and prevent its exposure from sea breezes.
? In UK region, it proves tough to maintain 16-200C temperature and relative humidity 65-70%. So, cigar lovers prefer humidor to preserve their cigars.
? Sometimes, humidity in make-shift humidor remains low then we can use a damp sponge in a cup because it serves as a basic provider of humidity.
? Leave the base of cigar containers unvarnished and do not laminate inner portion. Just allow the cigars to breath.
All above mentioned measures are helpful but sometimes we feel that all these are not enough to keep our cigars safe. Once cigar is dried then throw it away. However, re-humidified method proved effective but it needs expert’s hands.

Cigar smoking is all about shared pleasure. After all, it swept Victorian England and became a national pastime in part because it gave men something to do with their hands while they talked after dinner. And it took off during the so-called “cigar boom” of the 1990s in part because new publications, online forums, cigar clubs, and other social venues allowed cigar smokers to talk about their passion.

So it’s no surprise to find cigar-related events all over the social calendar of smokers around the world. In addition to the lavish, expensive Big Smoke conventions put on by Cigar Aficionado magazine – at least two a year, in Las Vegas and New York City – there’s the Ybor City festival in Tampa, Florida, free and open to the public. And that’s just November. Check out a few other, more-exotic possibilities from all over the globe.

The Dominican Republic is the world’s largest source of premium cigars, surpassing even Cuba (from which many of the country’s cigar-making families and technologies emigrated during the years after Castro). La Aurora, Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, and La Gloria Cubana, among many others, all operate there, and as of 2007, it has its own yearly cigar festival as well! Taking place in Santiago, the two-day Procigar Festival (the first of which took place March 5-7, 2008) featured cigar factory tours, visits to tobacco fields, chances to hobnob with some of the world’s greatest cigar makers, and cigar-and-liquor matchups. Companies such as La Aurora, General Cigar Co., and Tabacalera de Garcia, among others, participated, and the inaugural bow was successful enough to motivate a second – to be held February 16-20, 2009.

While you’re there, if you go, you may want to check out some of the other sights offered by this important Latin American cultural capital. The Dominican Republic was the first place permanently settled by Europeans anywhere in either American continent – the oldest cathedrals, universities, and European-made roads can all be found there. Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, butts up against its southern coast, offering breathtaking views (the Procigar Festival takes place far further north, in Santiago, but the country is not super-large in total area). Four mountain ranges decorate the country; the Cordillera Central (“Central Mountain Range”) approaches Santiago, so visitors to the Procigar Festival could also schedule a day trip to see Pico Duarte, the jewel of the Cordillera Central and the highest peak in the West Indies (over 3000 meters). And, of course, Santiago is itself located in the Cibao valley – between the Cordillera Central and Corillera Septentrional (“Northern Mountain Range”), which run parallel to each other – and it’s this rich and fertile area that houses most of the country’s farms, including its tobacco farms.

Or you could follow in author James Joyce’s footsteps and visit Zurich, Switzerland, where the expatriate Irish modernist polymath-writer completed large sections of his surreal novel Finnegans Wake, and where the Whiskyship sails every November. (What is it with November and cigar events?) This whisky-tasting event, which also offers three hundred premium cigars for the sampling, allows those with sharp noses and tastebuds to enjoy single malt whiskies from all over the world, and to enjoy the companies of folks with similar tastes. The 2008 Whiskyship will be the tenth such event. Switzerland, of course, features all sorts of other attractions – among other things, there’s the James Joyce Foundation, but also, you know, mountains and pristine lakes and thousands of years’ worth of European scenery – and would be worth a visit regardless.

Another possibility – albeit somewhat closer to home, at least for North American smokers – is the Nebraska Cigar Festival in Lincoln. Taking place in late November (which pits it against the Ybor City Festival and the two CA Big Smokes in drawing the attention of Midwestern cigar fanatics who don’t feel like going to Zurich), the one-evening event brings in cigars, munchies and a pair of drink tickets for those willing to shell out the admission fees and deal with early-winter Midwestern cold.

pen cigarette

The Electronic Cigarette was developed in China in 2004. It was designed to take the place of smoking tobacco cigarettes and cigars because, despite global smoking bans, many smokers just find it too difficult to quit altogether. There are numerous nicotine replacement products on the market, such as gum and patches, but these in no way replicate the smoking experience which has been proven to be a part of the addictive ritual of smoking. The e-cigarette is revolutionary in that it’s aim is to both deliver nicotine to user and simulate the experience of smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette.

The  Electronic Cigarette or  e-cig , in most cases looks just like a traditional cigarette and is made of a mouthpiece that holds a nicotine cartridge, a heating element or atomizer, a battery and an LED at the tip of the device. The way e-cigs work is that they contain an airflow meter that is triggered when the user inhales on the device. This activates the atomizer and delivers the nicotine to the smoker by a short burst of vapor that is inhaled. The LED at the tip lights up showing that the battery is working and also making the device appear similar to a lit cigarette. The vapor that is exhaled may look like smoke but it is actually just water, propylene glycol based vapor that is odorless and harmless.

E-cigarettes come in many shapes, colors and flavors. There are the models that look like traditional cigarettes and also some that are made to look like fountain pens. Flavors are limitless from Marlboro and Camel to Mint and Chocolate, with new flavors being developed constantly. The cartridges are also available with different levels of nicotine.  The various levels of nicotine allows the smoker to naturally wean themselves off of nicotine slowly.

There is a lot of controversy and confusion with regards to the legality and safety of electronic cigarettes and the media does not seem to be sorting the facts out for us very well. E-Cigarettes are available for sale in the United States but they are NOT endorsed by the FDA. Electronic Cigarettes can be sold as “Alternatives” to tobacco cigarettes but they are not approved yet as “Smoking Cessation” devices. Electronic Cigarettes have not been deemed to be unsafe by any US or European health organization and parts of Europe have even declared the electronic cigarette to be a public-friendly device.

Traditional tobacco cigarettes have over 4,000 chemicals in them, a lot of which have been deemed carcinogenic and dangerous to your health.  Switching to electronic cigarettes eliminates those chemicals.  People who have smoked traditional cigarettes that switch to electronic cigarettes say that they fell better, can breather easier and have recovered their sense of taste and smell.  There is no flame or smoke with electronic cigarettes, therefore the smoking bans do not apply.  In fact, many restaurants, airports, malls and casinos welcome electronic cigarettes.

Electronic cigarettes are also more cost effective than tobacco cigarettes.  Aside from the initial investment in a starter kit, you will save a ton of money by switching.  Many electronic cigarette smokers save over 75% over regular cigarettes.

The electronic cigarette has the potential to save millions of lives from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke.  Quitting smoking is hard, the addictive properties of traditional tobacco cigarettes make it near impossible for people to quit.  The solution may lay with switching from tobacco cigarettes to electronic cigarettes.

Gina King is an expert on electronic cigarettes and is working diligently to help electronic cigarettes become a healthier, mainstream smoking tool.

cigar utopia

A tattered parchment was recently discovered stuffed inside a Southwark premium lager beer bottle at the northern end of Kangaroo Alley. After carbon dating for authenticity and extensive study by the top scientific minds available it is reasoned that these are the musings of a curmudgeon who smokes too much, drinks too much and spends way too much time napping on the sofa with his dog.

I don’t particularly enjoy parting with two Jackson’s and a Lincoln to fill up my gas tank but it is hilarious to hear folks complain about the high price of gasoline while standing in line at Starbucks eager to pay $4 for two ounces of coffee, some milk and foam.

Next time you are in Las Vegas debating whether you should drop $35 on a cigar consider this; the most expensive cigar is a limited edition Cohiba called the Behike, it equates out to $420 per stick.

The most expensive bottle of wine on record is a 1787 Chateau Lafite once belonging to Thomas Jefferson that sold at auction for $160,000. That is some expensive vinegar.

That $4 cup of coffee from Starbucks is beginning to look like a bargain.

Samuel Adams sells its limited edition Utopia beer for $100 per bottle; however a gentleman referred to simply as Mr. B. paid $2,595 for a beer in a Hong Kong bar. It was charged to his credit card and subsequently paid. I hope he at least got a kiss from the barmaid.

The current record holder for the most expensive painting is Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Portrait of Dr. Gachet’ which sold for $82 million.

Still fretting over whether you should buy or lease your next motorcar, perhaps I can interest you in a 1967 Ferrari P4 for a cool $15 million? Sorry, CD player not included.

If you are more of the sea-faring type then perhaps you should consider the Annaliesse, a 280 foot mega cruise ship; it can be yours for a mere $103 million and is considered the most expensive private yacht.

Forget flying the friendly skies, own them in your very own $260 million FA-22 Raptor. Arguably the world’s most expensive jet.

Well, my cigar is spent and I can see the bottom of the glass. Where’s Max? I feel a nap coming on.

atomizer cigarette
Would you be willing to try an Electronic Cigarette?

Everyone knows the health risks associated with smoking cigarettes. There is something relatively new called an Electronic Cigarette. Generally speaking, there are several types: Some look like cigarettes, some look like pens, and others look like cigars or pipes. They use atomizers to vaporize a liquid that may or may not have nicotine (depending on preference) and uses rechargeable batteries. There are no carcinogens in the electronic cigarette. So knowing all of this, would you make the switch? If so, what e-cigarette would you choose and why?

Thank you ahead of time for all of your responses. I will leave the question open for a week if the site allows me, so that I may get plenty of responses.

Hi there. :)

I made the switch because it’s kind of a no-brainer. But I can attest to the fact that it does still take a strong will to switch off traditional tobacco cigs altogether. If you’re considering making the switch, I would recommend buying a pack of the nastiest and cheapest cigs you can find and use them if you have a weak moment. It will help encourage you to stay on the eCig. They’re so clean I felt TONS better just after 2 weeks of using it.

I went with a company called The Safe Cig because I spoke with the guys who run it, and their interest is more in saving lives than making a quick buck. Their package prices are NOT the cheapest, but their refills ARE – only $1 per cartridge. Which made sense to me. Commit to the purchase by spending the money to start, then get the refills really cheap to encourage you to stay on it. Plus they have a 12-month warranty that covers it all. Great guys. Highly recommended product no matter who you go with. A true life saver. :)
