cigar malt scotch

You know, years ago it was easy.

Your better half was in labour. You’d sit outside in the waiting room with all the other expectant fathers, smoke countless cigarettes {yes, you could smoke in hospitals, then}, talk about the football and wait for the fateful words “Mr. Dirt, it’s a boyâ€.

At this point you would stand for the applause, take a bow and sling the cigars around.

You’d slip in to see the “little womanâ€, after she’d been ‘made decent’ by the staff, of course, give her a peck on the cheek and a cheap bunch of flowers, a revolting box of chocolates – Black magic were the weapon of choice in the olden days – and head off to the pub to tell all the blokes how clever you were to have a baby.

Well, my lucky lads, ‘Those days Are Gone’!

In the 21st century you are expected to be, well and truly, “Part of the Action†as far as childbirth goes. And you can forget those stinking cigars, for a start!

Be fair, lad, YOU initiated all this so it’s only reasonable that you should be there at the “Grand Openingâ€, so to speak.

It’s a tough ask, I know that, but it is something that you will be reminded of for the rest of your days if you decline the generous offer, or command, which ever may be the case.

Prepare yourself well. Childbirth is not the ‘happy event’ we hear about in the movies. The ‘happy event’ is the time directly FOLLOWING childbirth.

Childbirth itself is a long drawn out process, much like you and your wife sharing a tent in the mountains for a month when it rains every day – accompanied by your mother-in-law!

‘orrible, it is!

There are ways that it can be made easier, enjoyable, even.

Firstly you have to consider how much it will mean to your partner. She will be ever grateful and it will bring you closer together than anything else you have ever done.

This is a moment you will share with no-one else except a few dozen selected medical personnel and lots of machines, with flashing lights, that go “PING†at every available opportunity.

Then, of course, there are always the brownie points that you will receive from all your female relatives for being such a ‘caring partner’. No more socks and undies at Christmas. I see Single Malt Scotch on the gift list from Great Aunt Agatha.

As for yourself, well, you will have taken part in a one-off experience that some say has changed their lives forever.

There are so many things you have to learn and you don’t have unlimited time to learn them.

Online you will find videos that will assist you and, hopefully, there are classes in your local area.

Whatever you do, DON’T listen to your mates – listen to someone who knows!

About the city

The crowd is attracted to sparkling ski slopes of the Alps, sunlit vineyards and sun-baked beaches of this beautiful country. France is a country which draws more tourists than any other country. It is easy to see why this is the case given France’s great reputation for fine wines, good food, high fashion and relaxed lifestyle. But while France is undoubtedly a place to eat and drink till your heart is content, there’s much more to this fascinating country than only cutting-edge cuisines. Spring is the best time to be here, and those interested in winter sports can drop at the Alps and Pyrenees with some polar gear. The summers are very hot and winters are moderate. An all-weather coat and pair of comfortable shoes are a must. Women, especially, should carry cocktail dresses as some of the restaurants ask for it. When visiting any religious site, refrain from wearing sleeveless shirt and shorts, as they are disliked at such places.

Culture

English is widely spoken here, although French is the official language. Handshaking is
customary greeting and women should be kissed on both cheeks and should be addressed
as Monsieur or Madame. French people are popularly known for their like for stylish sportswear
and of course perfumes. Nudism is allowed on some beaches only. Social functions, fine
restaurants, and clubs call for more formal dressing. When at a formal dinner, wait till the host
gestures to start the dinner. Smoking is banned in public places.

Site Seeing

Paris, the city of love, is a massive city with many attractions in reachable distance thanks to the
highly efficient public transport system. It boasts of more than 80 museums and 200 arts
galleries. A trip to Disney land and the magnificent Eiffel tower will make the trip worthwhile.
The attractive tourists spots are the Arc de triomphe which spans over the tomb of an
unknown soldier, the forbidding gothic architecture of the Notre Dame cathedral, the picturesque
Sacre Coeur, to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Moulin Rouge and boat tours along the
Seine. Get the Carte Musees-Monuments pass, which gives access to 70 monuments and
museums.

Shopping

Although service tax is included in the bill, a humble tip won’t cost much. An extra dollar can be given as tip to the waiter. A tip of $2 can be left for the bus drivers.
Electricity

220-volt, 50-cycle AC current.
Getting There

The national airline that operates here is Air France. Many low-cost airlines, too, provide services from UK. Paris-Charles de Gaulle also known as Roissy-Charles de Gaulle is the major airport of France, which is 23km away from the city. Coaches, taxis, limousines services are provided at the airport. The railway facility provided by the airport, claims to reach all the terminals within eight minutes. These trains run 24 hours. The other airports that offer flight services are Paris-Orly, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nice, Lyon and Toulouse.

Ferry and cruise trips can be made from ports such as Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean, and Havre.

Duty Free Items

1. 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos or 250g of tobacco
2. 1liter of spirits over 22 per cent or 2liter of alcoholic beverage up to 22 per cent

Do you think the host of Survivor…?

Do you think the producers of Survivor think about the million dollars that the contestant compete in as a joke? I can picture Mark Burnett or Jeff Probst sitting in a Jacuzzi in China somewhere having a cigar and cognac by his side in a beautiful estate thinking…

“those poor bas tards…working so hard for a million. You couldn’t pay me a million to be in their shoes.”

Well I guess NBC had to pay him several millions a season just to host, lol.

Well, I guess that’s one way of looking at it. Another way might be that they are providing an opportunity for these people, many of whom are trying to break into Hollywood or the entertainment industry in some aspect, to gain some really great exposure as well a 1 in what, 20? 30? chance at getting a million dollars? I mean, that’s life changing money and very few people get those kinds of odds at being able to achieve that kind of money ever, even if they worked all their lives. Putting in a mere 30 days of wilderness living for $1 million is not so bad. Don’t forget, because it’s only on once a week it seems a lot more dragged out for us the viewers than it actually is.

pairing cigars and scotch
how do you pair cigars with alcohol?

Like scotch would you want a bold cigar? Or does it depend on the brand?

It really depends.

I have favorite cigars, but I have certain drinks that I can have with pretty much any cigar. For instance: New Castle, Guiness, Cognac, Dr Pepper, Root Beer, Coca Cola, Port Wine, or Scotch.

I can get superficial when it comes to the drink I pair with my cigar. I usually group a good Cuban with great Cognac or Single Malt.

It all varies on location and situation.

cigar pairings

Cigar smoking is all about shared pleasure. After all, it swept Victorian England and became a national pastime in part because it gave men something to do with their hands while they talked after dinner. And it took off during the so-called “cigar boom” of the 1990s in part because new publications, online forums, cigar clubs, and other social venues allowed cigar smokers to talk about their passion.

So it’s no surprise to find cigar-related events all over the social calendar of smokers around the world. In addition to the lavish, expensive Big Smoke conventions put on by Cigar Aficionado magazine – at least two a year, in Las Vegas and New York City – there’s the Ybor City festival in Tampa, Florida, free and open to the public. And that’s just November. Check out a few other, more-exotic possibilities from all over the globe.

The Dominican Republic is the world’s largest source of premium cigars, surpassing even Cuba (from which many of the country’s cigar-making families and technologies emigrated during the years after Castro). La Aurora, Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, and La Gloria Cubana, among many others, all operate there, and as of 2007, it has its own yearly cigar festival as well! Taking place in Santiago, the two-day Procigar Festival (the first of which took place March 5-7, 2008) featured cigar factory tours, visits to tobacco fields, chances to hobnob with some of the world’s greatest cigar makers, and cigar-and-liquor matchups. Companies such as La Aurora, General Cigar Co., and Tabacalera de Garcia, among others, participated, and the inaugural bow was successful enough to motivate a second – to be held February 16-20, 2009.

While you’re there, if you go, you may want to check out some of the other sights offered by this important Latin American cultural capital. The Dominican Republic was the first place permanently settled by Europeans anywhere in either American continent – the oldest cathedrals, universities, and European-made roads can all be found there. Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, butts up against its southern coast, offering breathtaking views (the Procigar Festival takes place far further north, in Santiago, but the country is not super-large in total area). Four mountain ranges decorate the country; the Cordillera Central (“Central Mountain Range”) approaches Santiago, so visitors to the Procigar Festival could also schedule a day trip to see Pico Duarte, the jewel of the Cordillera Central and the highest peak in the West Indies (over 3000 meters). And, of course, Santiago is itself located in the Cibao valley – between the Cordillera Central and Corillera Septentrional (“Northern Mountain Range”), which run parallel to each other – and it’s this rich and fertile area that houses most of the country’s farms, including its tobacco farms.

Or you could follow in author James Joyce’s footsteps and visit Zurich, Switzerland, where the expatriate Irish modernist polymath-writer completed large sections of his surreal novel Finnegans Wake, and where the Whiskyship sails every November. (What is it with November and cigar events?) This whisky-tasting event, which also offers three hundred premium cigars for the sampling, allows those with sharp noses and tastebuds to enjoy single malt whiskies from all over the world, and to enjoy the companies of folks with similar tastes. The 2008 Whiskyship will be the tenth such event. Switzerland, of course, features all sorts of other attractions – among other things, there’s the James Joyce Foundation, but also, you know, mountains and pristine lakes and thousands of years’ worth of European scenery – and would be worth a visit regardless.

Another possibility – albeit somewhat closer to home, at least for North American smokers – is the Nebraska Cigar Festival in Lincoln. Taking place in late November (which pits it against the Ybor City Festival and the two CA Big Smokes in drawing the attention of Midwestern cigar fanatics who don’t feel like going to Zurich), the one-evening event brings in cigars, munchies and a pair of drink tickets for those willing to shell out the admission fees and deal with early-winter Midwestern cold.

Do you think we will move forward to re-establish diplomatic ties to Cuba?

When will we be able to get real Cuban cigars legally? Do you think those hot night clubs are still in Havanna? What ever happened to Elian Gonzalez?

I think that time will come soon. So many Americans have real interests in Cuba. Fidel Castro is the problem.

This year, why not floor your competition with a gift that they will never forget? Delicious, personalized chocolate cigars carrying a heartfelt personal message will leave an impression that won’t go away in a hurry.

Custom chocolate cigars are a highly innovative idea. They can be used for a number of wonderful occasions. You may use them for wedding receptions, bridal showers, birthday parties, baby showers or at wedding anniversaries. You may use them as wonderful and attractive centerpieces, or you may use them during fundraisers, annual company meetings or client parties.

Chocolate cigars are particularly handy when you want to announce the birth of a baby. You get readymade blue or pink cigars and you can personalize it by adding your own message to these wonderful cigars. According to new parents, Jim and Hannah Hayes, “Personalized chocolate cigars are a huge hit with small kids, big kids and adults. The cigars look absolutely amazing and they are fantastic treat for smokers, non-smokers – just about everybody!”

Whatever the occasion, there is one thing you can be sure of when it comes to chocolate cigars – the recipient will always love what he/she got, without exception. In the rare case where the recipient may not be a chocolate fan, you can still rest assured that someone in the family or close circle will love it. So, your gift will never go unappreciated.

Personalized chocolate cigars add a touch of extravaganza and celebration to every event, more so because everyone associates chocolates and fine cigars with celebrations. It is also the perfect gift for the special man in your life. Whether he is into cigars or chocolates or both, he will love it. Says Wendy Perble, “My dad loves cigars. He used to import some of his favorite brands all the time. But a year ago, he was asked to stop smoking completely. Since then, my sister and I make it a point to send him authentic custom made chocolate cigars twice a year. And you know what; he loves them just as much as his real cigars, or may be even more.”

Another huge plus in the favor of custom chocolate cigars is the opportunity to make these favors exclusively yours. You can add your own logo, pictures, sayings or quotes to give your personalized chocolate cigars a highly personal touch.

Personalized chocolate cigars are undoubtedly wonderful. They are a great way to express warmth, and anyone who receives them cannot help but fall in love with them.

How does single malt scotch compare to whiskey and bourbon?

I love quality cigars, and a lot of people who like cigars also really enjoy single malt scotch, so I find it only makes sense that I try some.
The closest thing I have had is Jack Daniels Whiskey and Seagrams Bourbon. With 3-4 drops of water and while taking small sips, Jack Daniels was decent. Seagrams, though I haven’t had it with water, wasn’t very enjoyable. Is this what single malt scotch tastes like?

No, scotch tastes very different from bourbon or Jack. All three are whisk(e)y’s, but they’re made from different ingredients with different methods.

wine and cigar pairing

The cigar has long been viewed as a luxury of the rich and powerful.  Images of well-to-do men puffing on a stogie and swirling a glass of good brandy have been well documented and memorialized in films and TV.  If you are just becoming interested in cigars and would like to relax with a stogie and drink after a long day’s work, here are a few tips to get you started.

Traditionally, the cigar has been paired with a strong drink.  Popular spirits include rum, brandy, or whiskey.  Some argue that a good cigar should always be paired with a strong drink that has a hint of sweetness.  Indeed, cigar smokers have long enjoyed these popular pairings.  For years, the idea of pairing cigars with beer has gone overlooked.  But why overlook good old beer?  Recently, the trend has been to pair cigars with various varieties of beer.  It seems that as cigars have entered the mainstream, it has been democratized and popularized.  What better way to enjoy a puff of this newly popularized treat than to pair it with beer?

Pairing a good cigar with a good beer is not an easy feat, but when accomplished, it is well worth the effort.  Much of the pairing has to do with your experience level.  If you are a novice, you will probably need help in pairing your specific cigar with an appropriate beer.  If you have a more experienced palate, and you know what you like, you can probably make connections between certain types of cigars and beers.

Because cigars are so strong and flavorful, one of the challenges in pairing is to find a beer that complements the intensity of most cigars.  Most cigars will pair nicely with a good barely wine or a single malt scotch.  If your cigar can be described as woody, spicy, with hints of cedar, try pairing it with a barley wine.  The fruity hint of barely wine should complement nicely with the spicy flavor of your cigar.  The combination of a spicy cigar with a slightly fruity beer can create an overall creaminess that enhances the flavors of each significantly.

If you have no clue as to what flavor combinations might work, experiment.  First, find a cigar that you enjoy.  Try to identify the characteristics that you enjoy about it.  Then, find a beer whose flavors you think might ‘match’ or complement the cigar.  Many incredible discoveries have been made in much this same way.
