cigar cutter lighter

One of the mistakes that many people make when they begin smoking cigars is cutting those cigars improperly. For those who haven’t been around the cigar culture for any length of time, this can be a confusing process. Many people try the old “bite and spit” method of getting their cigars ready. They will actually bite the end off the cigar and then spit the end onto the ground, their hand, or the ashtray. Not only is this considered rude in most circles, there is a good chance that you will ruin your cigar when you do this. You need to cut the cigar correctly, and the best way to do this is with a proper cutter or a torch cigar lighter and cutter combo.

The combination cutter is a great tool that includes not only something to cut your cigar, but also something with which you can light it. Of course, you might not have one of these cutters handy. If that is the case, then you can always resort to a pair of scissors or even a knife. If you choose to use a knife, be careful so that you don’t cut yourself by mistake.

You can use other items to cut your cigars ” everything from pocketknives to scissors is workable. However, you will find that the professional cutters simply work much better and will provide you with a much cleaner cut. When you have a clean cut, you can be sure that the cigar will be easier to smoke and you won’t inadvertently ruin it.

Using the cutter is easy. It has a blade and a plunger. You put the end of the cigar that would go into your mouth into the hole of the cutter and then press the plunger down. Make sure that you use a single, fluid motion when you depress the plunger, as that will give you the best cut possible. You can then discard the end of the cigar in the ashtray or the trash. When you have the proper tools at your disposal, you will find that cutting the cigar is just a simple matter.

You can find cigar cutters as well as the combination cutter/lighter in the same places that you would find other accessories. Many options are available online, and you can find them in a variety of styles to suit your needs. If you take cigar smoking seriously, you can’t do without one.

knife cigar cutter
Can i cut a cigar with a knife?

I dont have a special cutter and want to cut it, what do i use?

X-acto knife or box cutter blades will work.

You can use your teeth only if you carefully pry the cap off, rather than biting it like you see in the movies.

Buying cigars can be like buying fine wine….it can get expensive! Don’t shortchange yourself or your cigars buy storing them in a substandard cigar humidor. This article will discuss the major components of a quality cigar humidor.

Below is a short list of the more important items to consider when selecting a cigar humidor:

1. Seal: The most important aspect of a humidor is its ability to hold humidity. The seal will do that. When evaluating a cigar humidor, drop the lid from approximately 2-3 inches to see how it closes. If it lands on a cushion of air, the seal is fine. If it “clangs” when the lid is dropped, walk away because that isn’t a quality humidor….in fact, “it’s just a box”. Look to see what hinges are used to close the lid. Quality cigar humidors will have hidden quadrant hinges and/or piano hinges, which provide the best seal possible.

2. Exterior Construction: The sidewalls and bottom of the humidor should be at a minimum, ½” thick. Thicker than average sidewalls will create a more stable humidor interior with less fluctuations in temperature or humidity. Large temperature and humidity fluctuations will ruin your cigars. Check to see if the outside bottom of the humidor is lined with felt to prevent scratching of the furniture that you place your humidor on.

3. Interior Construction: It is extremely important that your humidor be lined in Kiln-Dried Spanish Cedar. This is the industry standard when it comes to quality made humidors. Kiln-Dried Spanish Cedar provides for less aromatic aromas than other woods which makes it the more desirable choice when selecting a cigar humidor. “You don’t want overly aromatic woods in your humidor as it may impart an unwanted flavor to your cigars”. Additionally, Spanish cedar is less prone to warping which is imperative when used in a high humidity application such as a cigar humidor. Should the interior of your humidor warp, the seal on the humidor will be broken and your cigars rendered useless. Having the interior Kiln-Dried gets rid of all the natural moisture that all woods contain. If the humidor you’re looking at has trays, make sure that they are ventilated to assure the humidity in your humidor can circulate to all cigars in the humidor.

4. Style: Are you interested in impressing your poker playing buddies or will a less fancy cigar humidor do? Matte finish or a multiple layer high gloss finish? One for the golf bag? There are so many styles to choose from it can be pretty confusing. Just make sure the humidor fits your personal style.

5. Quality: Don’t let price alone influence your decision as to what is a quality cigar humidor. There are many humidors on the market today that retail for less than $100 that will keep your cigars perfectly fresh for a long time. Look at all the variables discussed in steps 1-4 and you should have an easier time finding a quality humidor.

Try to avoid mixing mild and strong cigar in a single humidor…especially if they come without cellophane wrappers. They will marry their aromas and you will not have the cigars you thought you had. We always advise multiple cigar humidors if they have premium cigars without cellophane wrappers. Many premium cigars, such as La Gloria Cubana Serie line, have no cellophane on their cigars and these should not come in contact with other un-cellophaned cigars in your humidor.

Take your time…If you follow the 5 steps mentioned above, you will have a much easier time in finding the best cigar humidor for you.

Is Wish You Were Here and The Wall (Pink Floyd) about the same person?

The Wall is about a protagonist called Pink who grows up in Britain, goes to become a rockstar in America, meets a girl, gets married and then she leaves him. He then cuts himself off from society.

Wish You Were Here seems to centre around a guy entering the music world and finding out it is not such an honest or friendly place.

I’m wondering, because in “Have a Cigar” the lyrics go – “The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think, oh by the way, which one’s Pink?”

So are the two albums about the same person?
“Have a Cigar” is from the album “Wish You Were Here”
No, two songs (Shine on you crazy diamond parts 1 and 2) are about Syd Barret, they are on the album “Wish You Were Here” (the title refers to him too), but the other 3 songs aren’t about Syd.

Wish you were here lyrics encompass writer Roger Waters’ feelings of alienation from other people.

The album’s overriding themes are the causes and implications of self-imposed isolation, symbolized by the metaphorical wall of the title. The album’s songs create a very loose storyline sketching events in the life of the protagonist, Pink. Pink loses his father as a child (Waters’s own father was killed in Anzio during World War II), is smothered by his overprotective mother, and is oppressed at school by tyrannical, abusive teachers, each of these traumas becoming “another brick in the wall”. As an adult Pink becomes a rock star, his relationships are marred by infidelity and outbursts of violence. As his marriage crumbles, Pink finishes building the wall and completes his isolation from human contact.

Pink’s mindset deteriorates behind his freshly completed wall, with his personal crisis culminating during an onstage performance. Hallucinating, Pink believes that he is a fascist dictator, and his concerts are like Neo-Nazi rallies where he sets his men on fans he considers unworthy, only to have his conscience rebel at this and put himself on trial, his inner judge ordering him to “tear down the wall” in order to open himself to the outside world, and apologizing to his closest friends who are hurt most by his self-isolation. At this point the album’s end runs into its beginning with the closing words “Isn’t this where…”; the first song on the album, “In the Flesh?”, begins with the words “…we came in?” – with a continuation of the melody of the last song, “Outside the Wall” – hinting at the cyclical nature of Waters’s theme

You may think that lighting a Cuban cigar could be as easy as it sounds, but you would be thinking wrong. It is true that anybody can light a Cuban cigar, but to light it in a way that preserves its flavor is a tricky business and may require knowing a thing or two about the process. Smokers who enjoy every Cuban cigar that they smoke should follow these tips to better enjoy their experience.

Before you light your Cuban cigar, you should heat its “foot” or end for sometime. As you keep heating it slowly on a fire, you will see that a black ring is forming on the foot. You must make sure that the Cuban cigar does not contact the fire at any point of time; the fire should just be close enough to warm the Cuban cigar until the black ring formation on the end is complete.

Wooden matches should be used to light a Cuban cigar and cedar matches are ideal for lighting the Cuban cigar as they do not meddle with the aroma when you use them. Although cedar matches would be perfect, you can also use a lighter if you must, to light your smoke. If you must use a lighter, make sure that it is butane lighter at least, because butane lighters do not leave any strong smell when you light your Cuban cigar with it. This makes sure that you do not lose out on the unadulterated flavor of the Cuban cigar.

Now that you have prepared your Cuban cigar well enough to be lit, you must actually light it and this is a tricky business as well. The Cuban cigar must be in your mouth as you light the wooden match or the butane lighter, but it should not touch the actual fire at any time. When the Cuban cigar is at an inch or less from the fire, start to draw in calmly. With you drawing in from so close to the flame, the Cuban cigar should light up soon, but now you must rotate it. The rotation is necessary to make sure that the Cuban cigar catches the fire equally through out.

Although you will rotate the Cuban cigar to make sure the burn is even, there is a chance that the burn may not still be even. After you have lit your Cuban cigar, take a look at it to ensure this. If you find the Cuban cigar to have unlit portions, blow on the lit part of the Cuban cigar a few times to evenly distribute the fire. Take a few puffs from the Cuban cigar now to complete the lighting procedure evenly and adequately.

These instructions are simple to follow and apply, but once applied and followed carefully, you will find your Cuban cigar smoking experience to be quite different from the other days cigar smoking and the difference will be in all likeliness will be a better one if not memorable.

cigar cutter knife
can a cigar be cut with a knife or a pair of scissors?

I recently bought a box of cigars but i don’t have a cigar cutter, I was wondering if anybody had any solutions.

Knife – No. You’ll end up hacking it to pieces.
Scissors – Yes. Depending on how wide the cigar is. Hold it horizontally and snip the end off. Straight through the end.
Don’t use a stanley knife.
As the above answerer said, poking a hole through the middle of the end is a good idea too.

I’ll take all the thumbs down I can get from all you daft Yanks – you’ll never smoke a real Cuban. Unlucky.
