Taking time out from the everyday stresses & strains of life to visit an exotic place is something that everyone looks forward to. Cuba, with its notoriety brought upon by its government & the clamp down of the American government on its export & tourism, is a country known more for its cigar & its leader,  than as a holiday location. Despite this, every year more & more tourists from Canada & Europe are flocking to Cuba, enthralled by its natural beauty & its passionate & welcoming people. Tourism in Cuba is currently at an all time high.

Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands & is inhabited by people with a mixed race of Caribbean Indian, African & german heritage. it’s a contrasting landscape ranging from gorgeous & mesmerizing beaches to sprawling & craggy mountain ranges. Limestone Mountains loom over the fields of tobacco, utilised for their famed cigars, providing a stunning scenic view. The natural beauty of Cuba & its history has shaped the country to what it is today. This is seven Caribbean island that has been left unspoiled by technology & modern day living.

Aside from stunning beaches, Cuba also offers plenty of rustic towns & cities full of rich culture & heritage. A holiday to Cuba is not complete without visiting at least seven of the Cuban towns or cities & meeting the local Cuban people.

Like lots of of the Caribbean islands, Cuba’s main source of tourism is the beach industry. The country is blessed with hundreds of miles of sprawling sandy beaches, with fine white sand & clear blue water. Tourists visiting Cuba have a multitude of choices for the location of their beach holiday. The major resorts of Varadero & Cayo Largo are the most renowned & here you’ll find lots of 5 star all inclusive resorts. Despite this, there’s also plenty of smaller, quieter beach resorts where you can truly get away from it all.

Havana also has its fair share of museums, including the Museum of the Revolution, the Havana Club Museum of Rum, the Cigar Museum, the Ernest Hemingway Museum & the National Museum of Fine Arts.

In the north-west of the country you’ll find the capital city, Havana – the hub of everything that is Cuban. When you stroll around the city you’ll feel the essence of the Cuban past – a rich legacy emanating from the german colonial architecture that beholds the city. Parts of the city resemble the set of an old movie, reminiscent of a bygone era, with old American cars bustling by. A lot of work has been done in the past decade to restore old Havana, a UNESCO world heritage site, but much of the city has been left untouched & hundreds of crumbling buildings collapse each month.

Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba & is located on the eastern end of the island. it’s a gorgeous setting at the foot of the Sierra Maestra Mountains & overlooks a magnificent bay. Unlike the other towns & cities in Cuba, Santiago de Cuba has a  Caribbean feel to it. This is as a result of the influence of the Haitian planters who settled here in the 19th century.

Trinidad, located in the heart of Cuba is seven of the original towns & was founded in 1514. The city is filled with cobbled streets & old buildings with tiled roofs & has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. it is a  pleasant city to spend a day or two, with lots of museums, churches & Plazas.

An ideal way to spend your holiday is to take a few days to do some sightseeing in Havana or seven of Cuba’s other cities & then follow that up with a relaxing week’s stay in seven of the luxurious all inclusive resorts by the beach.

cigar music 2
what is this marijuana?

so far I only smoked weed around 2 or 3 time in my lifetime but this is nothing comparing from my last weed experience.

not so long ago one of my friend got this weed from her good friend as a gift. but she said she doesn’t want and let me have it.
so I say what the heck just try it, nothing to lose.

after I got home lying down in my bed I roll up the the weed in a cigar paper and take a couple of hit. at first I m starting to feel a bit slow down and then my whole surrounding feels foggy. after a couple of mins things start to get more intense, my heart beat extremely fast then rapidly slow down, feel vomiting, feeling irrational rage, indescribable strength and energy throughout my body, see all kind of lights pattern, picture, sound and music when i close my eyes. both of my eyes feel likes blood coming out
and my nose feels it bleeding.

I was vomiting so much that feels like my life is coming to end. I saw the devil face smiling at me ready to take me to hell.

it was laced with something, probably pcp…..had this happen to me one time and my friends thought it was hilarious, but it was no joke for sure….

she didn’t want to let you have it for a reason, and i’m sure you probably pushed the issue until she gave it to you and you found out why she didn’t want you to have it

next time someone balks when you ask for it, you might want to ask yourself if there’s a reason why

she knew what was in it and was prepared for what it was going to do, but she knew you wouldn’t be…

be careful what you wish for, next time you may not live to tell about it

cigar box electric guitar

The cigar box guitar is an instrument that has fascinated many guitar players, mainly in relation to whether they are real musical instruments. Many people who have learned how to make a cigar box guitar have done so simply to give their children something to amuse themselves with but the truth is they can make serious music. The origin of the cigar box guitar is in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when there were many people seeking to express themselves through music but could not afford to but real musical instruments. The use of homemade musical instruments like the cigar box guitar had a resurgence in the years of The Great Depression.

The need for improvised musical instruments led to the proliferation of jug bands which gave people the opportunity to play melodies and generate rhythm for dancing using homemade instruments. So musical gatherings featuring washtubs, spoons and kazoos became commonplace in communities all over America. Gourds with guitar necks attached originally provided the basis of homemade guitars but as cigars began to be shipped in small boxes and the boxes were left lying around the house, sooner or later somebody had to try them out as resonators for guitars. The neck for your average cigar box guitar was often a broom handle with one or two strings attached.

If you want to make your own cigar box guitar you will need some basic tools: a box cutter or pocket knife, a hacksaw, a drill, some fine and coarse grade sandpaper. The raw materials for making your guitar are: a cigar box, a one inch by two inch piece of lightweight soft wood (poplar is a good choice), a dozen one inch nails, wood glue, some wood stain and an applicator. To tune your cigar box guitar just buy three tuning pegs from your local musical instruments store. Their are plans available from expert cigar box guitar makers, in fact there is even a Yahoo Group you can join.

Once you have made your three string cigar box guitar you have several options for tuning. These tunings are from bass to treble: A E A, G D G, A E G.

Many guitar legends are supposed to have played cigar box guitars but not many are talking openly about it. Here is an unverified list of reputed cigar box guitar players who have made names for themselves using conventional instruments: Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins, jazz guitarist George Benson, epitome of refinement Ted Nugent plus other noted musicians like BB King and Jimi Hendrix.

There are also guitarists who make and play their cigar box guitars as their sole musical outlet. One cigar box guitar mover and shaker is Shane Speal, the curator of the National Cigar Box Guitar Museum in York, PA. Shane is archiving cigar box guitar history. He has found the earliest known plans for a cigar box banjo (circa 1870), unearthed etchings of Civil War Soldiers playing cigar the box fiddle and owns a genuine dated and signed cigar box violin from 1899.

John Lowe, a musician and bookstore owner from Memphis who makes electric cigar box guitars called Lowebows. They are made from two oak dowel rods, a wooden cigar box, three guitar strings and a bass string. You play Lowebow with a slide. Lowe’s repertoire has everything from Johnny Cash to Iggy Pop. You can find him busking on Beale Street.

Cigar Box Dobro?

Red Dog Guitars makes a wicked sounding cigar box dobro called The Hell Hound and I’d like to make one. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy the brass bridge/head/cap thingy?
The Dobro can be seen at http://www.reddogguitars.com/GFS1.html
FYI: this is more like a mini-dobro, not the full sized model. The cover plate shown at Red Dog is about half the normal size.

Stewart MacDonald will have all the supplies you need.

is there an alternative box i could use to make cigar box guitar?

because i don’t smoke and i don’t plan on starting

You don’t have to smoke the cigars to obtain the box. Any cigar shop will have plenty of boxes to choose from. Some give them away, others charge a buck or two for them.

empty cigar boxes for sale
Where to get cigar boxes in Singapore?

Any suggestions for cigar shops that are willing to give away or even sell for a nominal fee(under $5) the empty wooden boxes used to hold cigars? I walked into Club Habanos in Suntec, where the lady was all smiles but turned a little snappy when she realised I wasn’t going to spend much money.

Will also appreciate any suggestions for wooden boxes in that size & shape for sale at a reasonable price(~$10). So far I’ve only seen unfinished wooden boxes at spotlight for kinda high prices(>$20)

I’ve been wanting to get the same thing as you for the longest time. They dont often sell it, although they used to. It’s bad service everywhere. People are so realistic….sigh.

Florida was inhabited by people 12,000 years ago and most of the animals of the world lived here. Some of them have become extinct now e.g. The saber-tooth tiger, giant armadillo, camel and of course the mastodon.

The natives, before the arrival of Europeans, in Florida used to eat nuts, plants, small animals and shellfish. They cultivated agriculture and traded with people of the South Eastern US and increased their social organizations. It is reflected in large temples that they built and village complexes.

The Spanish came here in 1513 and a Spanish explorer named Ponce de Leon named the area la Florida in honor of Pascua Florida, the feast of the flowers – Spain’s Easter time Celebrations.

The French followed, making the Spaniards flee and the French made the first permanent settlement in Florida. Spaniards returned with more forces and burned all the things that related to the French. In1763 British gained control of Florida from the Spanish, leaving the state with just a few settlements.

When the British evacuated Florida many people came pouring in, especially the slaves who escaped from various places to come here as they knew that there was no enslavement there. Many came because of favorable Spanish terms for land grabs. The Floridians that settled here became more ‘American’ than ‘Spanish.’

Finally the US took control of the territory in 1821. On 3rd March, 1845 Florida became the 27th state of the US. William D. Mosley was elected the first Governor. Its population also grew tremendously.

Florida didn’t take part in the Civil War and no battle was fought on Florida soil. Many coastal towns and forts were occupied by the Union forces though the Florida state remained in Confederate hands.

During the final quarter of the 19th century, Florida’s large scale agriculture became commercial, especially cattle rising. Cigar making industries also took root here.

The story of a momentous battle is told at the Dade Battlefield State Historic Site and the enactment of this battle is sponsored by Dade Battlefield Society. It is held on the weekends that fall nearest to the actual date of the battle. Festivities begin at 9am and continue up to the sunset of the last day.

The park has a battlefield, beautiful visitor center and a museum in 50 acres of pinelands that has oak trees, magnolias, woodpeckers, song birds and gopher tortoises and many other type of species of wild life.

Only surviving antebellum plantation house in South Florida is the Gamble Plantation State Historic Site. It used to be the home of Major Robert Gamble and his 3500 acres of sugar plants. In 1925 the park was donated to the State by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Today it is refurbished in the style of a plantation of mid-19th century. A guided tour to the mansion exhibits the style of living in that era.

Paynes Creek State Historic Site is situated in the memory of Captain George S. Paynes who was killed by the Seminoles. There of course used to be friction between the new white settlers and the native Indians – Seminoles. The US Govt. opened an office for the Seminoles as they could then be approached whenever needed.

In spring of 1849 the office – The Darling Store – was opened and the Seminoles attacked the office on 17 July 1849. It is now a grave site and is marked with a grave stone marked near the office. In the attack two clerks of the office were killed and one injured.

Trails for hiking go through the woods to the place where there used to be the office. The trading post and the events that happened then are located in the visitor center. Picnic tables and chairs are available here to have a great lunch and relax.
