Unborn baby, smoke exposure ?
If cigarette smoke can cause problems in an unborn child, do you think that exposures to other types of smoke can cause similar problems? why or why not?
I don’t know, it’s a homework question, haha
What are you asking about? Like fire smoke? Or pot smoke?
Any kind of smoke probably isn’t that great because it reduces the amount of oxygen you and therefore your baby is getting.

Why are cigars given to celebrate the birth of a baby?
Where did the tradition of giving cigars to celebrate a childs birth begin?
I actually did some research on this for someone else who had asked and here is the history of cigars and the birth of a baby:
Baby announcement cigar history and tradition
For generations it has been a tradition for parents to pass out it’s a boy cigars or it’s a girl cigars to announce the birth of a new born baby. Although the exact origins of the tradition are somewhat unclear, many claim that it comes from the customs of the natives who inhabited the new world.
American Indians had a custom known as “potlatch” which involved the sharing of gifts with members of the tribe. A “potlatch” was held to celebrate the happiness of a significant event, such as a birth or wedding. The celebration allowed an individual or family to avoid the jealousy of others and was quite a status symbol among the tribe.
The natives in the Caribbean, Central, and South America puffed on rolled up tobacco leaves wrapped in maize, palm or other native vegetation. As the Europeans arrived in Americas, many of the native customs were subsequently followed by the new settlers and are still in use today.

Is it tacky to hand out bubble gum cigars out after the baby’s birth?
When my hubby and I have a baby I would like to give out its a girl or its a boy cigars. No one in our family really smokes, is it tacky to hand out bubble gum cigars instead? Or where can I find chocolate cigars? Also when do you give out cigars? At the hospital ???
No one in my family smokes, and neither does my boyfriend. My mom still handed out “It’s a boy” bubble gum cigars to my boyfriend and dad and others, after the delivery. She gave them out at the hospital.

What are some of your favorite cigar moments? Here are a few reasons to enjoy the experience, taste and aroma of premium and super-premium cigars:
1. After a wedding when the groomsmen are enjoying a moment amongst themselves, and celebrating the groom’s good fortune.
2. After the birth of a child, whether it’s your child, a niece, nephew, Godchild or the child of a colleague.
3. After the commencement ceremony for your favorite protégé or ward.
4. After purchasing your first home and evaluating the work and hope ahead of you.
5. After selling your first home for a handsome profit and remembering the rewards of work and the pleasure of work rewarded.
6. After burning the mortgage, and knowing that there will never be another payment. The place is yours, lock, stock and barrel.
7. After leaving the factory job for the last time.
8. After the best dinner you’ve ever had.
9. After the best and most complete play, concert or opera you’ve ever attended.
10. With the rest of the campers at the end of a hike in the woods or in the desert.
11. Beside the garden wall when there is a break from the labor of working with your hands in the good earth.
12. While standing and surveying the view of a field of harvest, full of the promise of work and the promise of prosperity, while remembering the planting of that field.
13. While working on a vintage automobile like a convertible Cadillac from the 1970’s.
14. After negotiating for–and getting–a vintage automobile.
As you can see, there is a wonderful tradition of celebration and the constancy connected to the smoking of a great cigar. The sentiment and sensation of cigars and pipes are part of understanding the cigar consumer. Therefore, the best way to give a cigar is by purchasing them either through reputable online stores, many of which will sell and ship them gift-wrapped, or by purchasing them through tobacconists and fine cigar and pipe stores.
Remember that quality cigars are hand-rolled and custom made. There are countless ways to find out what kind of cigars would be best suited as a gift. For example, select according to smoke time. A good cigar will have a smoke time of 20 to 60 minutes, depending on its size and style. Other factors are color and aroma.
Whatever the celebration and whatever the occasion, giving and receiving fine premium or super-premium cigars–or just enjoying them on your own–will top off the pleasure of each experience and enhance life’s special moments. The best part of the cigar experience is to discover what moments you can plan for cigar enjoyment. So start with giving and receiving premium cigars, and then let them accompany all your great life celebrations.

Smoking and pregnancy equal’s problems – Smoking Pregnancy are two words that definitely do not and should not belong together. A woman who smokes during pregnancy, exposes herself and her unborn child to immense health risks. This is obvious if you just take into consideration the fact that cigarette smoke contains more than 2000 component, which includes very harmful nicotine, carbon monoxide and cyanide. The majority of these substances is absorbed by the placenta and affects the baby without the mother even noticing a thing.
Fetal growth restrictions – The most concerning effect of smoking during pregnancy is probably that on fetal growth. A new born of a woman who smokes weighs approximately 170 to 200 grams lighter when compared to the average weight of non-smokers’ baby. This can be attributed to the narrowing of oxygen and nutrients transporting blood vessels, which leads to low birth weight and general ill health tendency for the rest of the it’s life. The amount of cigarettes a woman smokes has a direct impact on the level of weight reduction.
Research findings – Researchers have found proof that smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of genetic abnormalities including cleft lip or palate, bowel, eyes, ears or spinal cord malformations or problems and last but definitely not least respiratory problems in the form of Asthma. Placenta abnormalities are also more common. It’s imperative to keep in mind that the effect of smoking goes way beyond birth. For example an increased risk of respiratory problem development as previously mentioned, during toddler or teenage years. The health benefits of quitting your much loved smokes are undoubtedly immense, this is particularly true and of great significance for pregnant women.
Putting the packet down – permanently will of course be the preferred choice but we all know quitting flat-out is easier said than done. Approximately 20 per cent of pregnant women smoke and over 50 per cent of the 20 percent smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day. An unbelievable four per cent of pregnant women manage to quit smoking within the first trimester of pregnancy. Its common knowledge that if you are able to quit smoking in the first trimester of pregnancy, that your chances of having a normal sized baby at birth increases almost to a 100 per cent. This does, however, not mean that any level of smoking is safe or encouraged. Quitting always comes highly recommended. Reducing the amount of cigarettes you nip will still result in exposure of both you and your child to harmful substances, just to a lesser degree. If you find quitting your bad habit completely impossible-keep one very important piece of advice in mind- “more smokes equals more effects on your child”.
How will smoking affect actual pregnancy? – Smoking will without a doubt affect actual pregnancy and not just the unborn child. Smoking causes increased heart rate, hypertension and nervous system suppression, which not only effects the baby but can also increase the risk of developing complications for the mother, of which chest infections and blood clotting disorders are a common concern.
Other risks – Smoking during pregnancy also increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy, miscarriages, stillbirths, pre-mature births, placenta malformations, morning sickness often requiring hospitalization, bleeding, polyhydramnios, thrush and urinary tract infections including Candida.
Link between smoking and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – Researchers have found solid proof of the link between smoking during pregnancy and an increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Evidence also suggests an increase in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome if the father smokes while the mother is pregnant. Preferably both parents-to-be should quit smoking during pregnancy. Here the rule will apply again- the more smokes equals the more the risk of SIDS.
After birth tips – It’s absolutely imperative to keep your baby in a smoke-free environment at all times, no matter how practically impossible it may seem. Stop friends, family or even strangers from smoking in your home, vehicle or any other area near the baby.
Facts on second hand smoke – Second hand smoke also known as passive smoke or environmental tobacco smoke comprises of burning cigarette smoke and exhaled smoker smoke. Medical as well as scientific proof exists to support the fact that the smoke burning-off a cigarette or cigar end actually contains more harmful substances when compared to the first-hand smoke inhaled by the smoker. Should you be one of those unlucky non-smokers who are regularly exposed to second-hand smoke, you will increase your and your new born child’s chance of developing repertory cancer, heart disease, emphysema, allergies, asthma, and other health problems, significantly. Babies exposed to second-hand smoke also have a higher risk of developing reduced lung capacity.
There is definitely a lengthy list of effects on smoking while pregnant and so many different variations of ways that smoking during pregnancy can affect the mother and the fetus. Trying to quit smoking isn’t an option at this point, it is a must. There is too much at risk for your own health and for your soon to be new born child. Take advantage of all support groups and programs that are available to gain a fresh healthier way of living.
