Is it true that Cigarettes help you lose weight?
I have heard that cigarettes help you lose weight, if so what in them makes this true and how much weight do they make you lose? (I used to smoke but got pregnant and am 15 lbs. heavier after the baby…not sure if its from just the baby, maybe its from stopping smoking and the baby) Dont worry I am not thinking about starting back!
You people must not READ. I am not interested in losing weight by smokin! I was just curious! I care more about my health and my baby’s health than my weight!
I know some of the weight is from the baby, cmon now! I was just thinking maybe it wouldnt be soo muich if not for the smoking.
The only thing cigarettes do is stave off hunger pangs. When people give up they tend to comfort eat – and so put on weight!

Is this how democrats want to pay for healthcare reform?
A large portion is expected to come from reductions in Medicare and Medicaid. But that won’t pay for the full overhaul.
As for raising money, ideas have included a
- national sales tax,
- taxing soda
- “surtax” on people making more than $250,000.
Don’t the poor of society pay a lot of taxes for soda and cigarettes? Will this bill have a payment clause where anyone making under $250K will get a check like the one in the cap and tax bill?

Animal – Would love to have a coke with you. But sorry I don’t smoke.
The medical industry isn’t offering, it is being told that they will do this.
O-hood, ought not your tag line read : Spread THEIR Wealth?
As to poor paying taxes — D’ah, what else is new. The poor pay taxes in sales and excise taxes at the same rate as anyone else they also suffer more by the hidden tax of inflation. Do recall that the Great Thief and Liar FDR, set up the FICA tax when workers were expected to live to be 59.6 yo but would be able to retire at 65 yo. He(FDR) also set up subsidies to encourage tobacco growth and usage so that states and the Fed could obtain more excise taxes — repeal of the 18th amendment was to get liquor taxes flowing into his overspending hands again. He also taxed Marijuana out of existence to prevent Northern migration of certain ethnic groups and to encourage tobacco (taxed) usage and to punish the use of ditch weed (non-taxed).

A History of Cigar Store Indians
Hundreds of years ago, Native Americans introduced tobacco to Europeans. In doing so, Native Americans quickly became advocates of the tobacco industry. It became part of their society. Smoke shop owners used Cigar Store Indians to show people who couldn’t read where to buy cigars.
In the 1600s, Cigar Store Indians began to appear outside of European tobacco shops. Since European craftsmen had never seen a real-life American Indian, their representations were more fictional-looking than realistic. When the Cigar Store Indian made its way to America in the 1700s, they began to look more authentic.
Current Uses For Cigar Store Indians
Even now, you’ll sometimes see a Cigar Store Indian sitting outside of a cigar store. But these eye-catching statues are now used less as an advertisement for a tobacco shop, and more as ornaments that celebrate tobacco’s rich history. Though various people view these statues as a stereotype of American Indians, Cigar Store Indians represent a big part of the tobacco business. Some statues are happy and inviting, while others appear to be trying to scare away intruders or thieves. In any case, throughout the years, Cigar Store Indians have become synonymous with the tobacco industry.
Our Design and Manufacturing Process
While some Cigar Store Indians are made of cast iron, most are made of wood. We use the highest quality mahogany wood for our Cigar Store Indians. Our artisans use axes and mallets to shape the figure, and a chisel to add the finer points. Our artisans paint each statue by hand, so that even the finest details are perfect.
Common Styles of Cigar Store Indians
We offer several types of Cigar Store Indians. From joyful figures, to intimidating warriors, we have what you need. what is a good gift to get for a 26 year old man graduating from medical school?
he is a pretty simple guy.. doesnt place too much value on “name” brand things.. very out doorsy, LOVES fishing, cigars, politics, old man things (haha) etc. .. im looking for a creative idea that might combine his lifestyle with medicine.. hes going into an internal med residency and eventually wants a fellowship in cardiology.. helppp!
How about a cigar box made of a really nice wood (burl maybe) with the the Staff of Asclepius or other medical type symbol burnt or carved into the top. A matching lighter would be nice, too. This would combine his love for outdoors (wood) and medicine.

the cigarette diet

Health studies have shown that the health and diet of a mother from the first trimester of her pregnancy to the time she gives birth to her child are of great consequence. They help ensure her breastfeeding abilities, like sufficiency of her breast-milk’s nutrients from which her child will be wholly dependent for proper growth and development.
This assumes that it is solely a lactating mother’s outlook to sustain a good and healthy diet for her breastfeeding child. A mother who gives birth to a large baby that grows fast may experience difficulties in producing and sustaining enough quantities of milk. This is because the fat reserves she had during the pregnancy period can be lost soon after childbirth and eating well enough might become a problem for her.
Lactating mothers need a large calorie and elevated nutrition diet to promote perfect health. An unhealthy or malnourished mother may still be able to produce milk, but one that is still considered deficient in vitamins A, D, B6 and B12.
Also, nursing mothers who smoke must know that having more than 20 cigarettes a day contributes to the reduction of their breast milk supply and also causes vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate and restiveness among breastfeeding infants. The dreaded Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS have also been shown to commonly occur in infants often exposed to smoke.
Heavy alcoholic drinking is also acknowledged as commonly harmful to both the mother and the baby. If you are a lactating mother, drink only small quantities of alcohol at a time or, better yet, avoid them totally. A breastfeeding mother drinking alcohol excessively can cause her lactating infant to become irritable, sleepless and may constantly demand increased feeding. But a moderate consumption of say, 1 to 2 cups a day usually has no effect on the feeding child. Lactating mothers must then avoid if not limit their alcohol intake for the sake of their breastfeeding child.
Having a healthy diet and the discipline to limit your intake of the most common and harmful elements to the body such as caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes will help to ensure that your breastfeeding child will be healthier and have better growth and development. This is a crucial stage in anyone’s life, and you may never wish something bad happening to your baby.

DIET SMOKE BREAK
harmful cigarette facts

Mark Pletcher, MD, states “The primary goal of public health officials, physicians, and patients should be to reduce all tobacco smoke exposure regardless of menthol content.” This categorically places dangers from non-menthol cigarettes on par with menthol cigarettes. If you noticed or researched more over the internet, you would have, by now, noticed that all theories and myths about menthol content causing more carcinogens are effectively quashed for the moment. If the stated primary goal is reducing exposure to tobacco smokes, it plainly means that.
Who Smokes Menthol More?
Apparently it is the African American community that smokes cheap menthol cigarettes more than anyone else. Mark Pletcher had conducted a study some time ago. The secondary result of that research quite interesting found out that it was Black Americans that smoked mentholated cigarettes more. The sample group had 972 menthol cigarette smokers. Less than 14%of them agreed to have smoked non menthol flavors ever when their favorite flavor wasn’t available and the rest of them were not in any mood to choose regular cigarettes, come what may. If this wasn’t enough surprising to you, take this next bouncer – the percentage of female smokers not prepared to quit and not ready to smoke regular flavors was quite less in comparison to White Americans.
So, you can say that it is the African Americans, regardless of sex, that are smoking cheap menthol cigarettes more. Whether there is any specific reason for this behavior? Is there a socio-economic angle attached to this? These points are not still clear although there are a few unconfirmed hints about this.
Myth and the Truth
The first myth that is doing the rounds is menthol crystallizes within the smokers’ lungs and thus is more harmful. Menthol is an extract of peppermint (Mentha piperita) and corn mint (Mentha arvensis), both of which are in use in cold remedies and toothpastes for centuries. Several animal and clinical tests could not conclusively prove that mint or menthol consumed in any for, burnt or not, can be harmful even in high doses. Neither can it produce organ or blood toxins nor any carcinogens.
Another myth that menthol smoking is more addictive and harder to quit seems to have some truth, although it is far from being proved clinically. There are some statistical suggestions that smokers who chose to smoke menthol flavor are less likely to give up, but the studies are unable to attribute any conclusive reason for this. But looking at how certain brands, including cheap Virginia Slims cigarettes, are marketing, it appears that the cry that they are targeting African Americans in particular has some substance and that quitting smoking is harder with menthol cigarettes.
However, as long as these myths are contributing to the anti smokers’ cause, it is fine.
The Real Difference
Well, I have chosen to climb up the ladder with the first rung being the bottom most. Menthol cigarette smokers exhibit much higher rates of ‘tobacco’ related cancers. This has got to do many things with high percentages of smoking and sworn chain smoking incidences in African Americans. Also, the rates of relapses and dogged smoking are comparatively higher here. If partial statistics are to be believed, all this and health hazards are lower in Whites. Tobacco with its companions like papers, gums, and filters are the same in both forms excepting that harmless menthol.
Is it really harder to quit? It must be; for there are only two ways for anyone wanting to quit smoking menthol cigarettes- either to give up completely or switch to regulars- both of which facts are tough by the hardcore smokers.

Since the 19th century, Key West has been one of the historical centers of cigar tradition. At one time boasting more cigar factories per capita than anyplace else in the world, Key West had always played a major role in the cigar industry. Just after the American Civil War, this city became a Mecca for Cuban citizens fleeing their countries long running revolution against Spain. By the late 1870’s there were over 100 factories making cigars.
Cuban influence in Key West first began on a massive scale in 1868 when the first war against Spanish authority created a mass exodus. When Cubans faced forced conscription into the Spanish army to fight against their countrymen, thousands of skilled cigar artisans and their families fled their homeland.
On a single September day in 1869, over 2,000 Cubans lined the docks of Havana to flee their mother country. While some left for New York City or New Orleans, a majority boarded steamers for the 12-hour trip to a destination ninety miles to the north, a city Cubans called Cayo Hueso, today’s Key West.
The civil war against Spain failed by 1878, however it created a social upheaval in Key West as Cuban immigrants continued arriving intermittently for decades, virtually revolutionizing Key West’s social fabric and economy.
Prior to 1868, Key West had less than 500 residents, noted primarily for acquiring wealth from shipwrecks, but a new form of wealth was about to arrive when Cuban immigrants, with talented cigar making skills, arrived by the thousands in the matter of a year or two.
At the peak of the industry, Key West embodied the largest cigar-producing city in the nation. It featured 57 major makers of cigars–many of whom relocated from Havana–and each made use of between five and 500 workers. In 1883 alone, 42 million hand-rolled cigars were created.
To house their cigar laborers, factory owners frequently constructed little cottages–bungalow-style structures principally of frame construction–and rented them out for low sums. To assure an ample supply of laborers, these homes were adjacent to manufacturing plants. These structures still comprise the biggest category of frame vernacular (simple structures, made of wood with few or no ornamental details) in Key West proper.
They were built from termite-proof Dade County pine with high ceilings for ventilation. They were elevated off the ground, allowing air to flow under the houses where roosters and hens lived and were part of the family, raised for eggs or meat or were trained for cock fights.
Although little by today’s criteria, these cottages were far better than living circumstances in Havana they were surely far superior to condemnable tenement houses in Northern cities. Many times a cigar artisan would change jobs to another factory simply to have a newer house to live in. These homes were offered for inexpensive rent or with the option to purchase at a reasonable price to maintain a stable work force.
With good homes, good wages and the freedom to affirm the revolution, the cigar artisans existed well. Their clever unions assured substantial strength, and while many union laborers in the North were cowered in deplorable tenement housing, Key West cigarworkers were reveling in Shangri-la. Even their many strikes, which finally helped bring about the decline of the cigar industry, reflected the luxury of their position. In the strike of 1918, work stopped, as was normal, until the union requirements were met. The petitions: no sweeping before 6 a.m., ice in the drinking water, and coal, not wood, fuel for winter heating.
The little cigar bungalows have endured the test of time. Many of these Key West structures are diminutive, only 300 or 400 square feet. They frequently have porches, minuscule yards with picket fences and little or no grass to mow. The bungalows were made from Dade County pine by ship’s carpenters, who constructed with a tongue-and-groove technique which lasts.
Property values are high, crime is low and the climate is about perfect. The bungalows are adequate for one or two friendly persons to live in–when you can be outside 350 days of the year. Key West has become such a desirable paradise for artists, the affluent and retirees that these pastoral cottages now cost at least $125,000–if you can get hold of one.
