method of putting a horse down in the 1930’s?

i posted this question on the USA side, i got what appears to be the correct answer, but i was wondering if any one knew the exact name of the device, or how it worked.
i cant believe a cigarette lighter was used to fire it.

no, “Wrapped up warmly” i have no intention of buying a device built around 1930 to roam the countryside killing horses.

the device was used in a tv show and i was just wondering what it was and how it worked.
yes, i know horses were usually shot by their owners if they needed to be put down, but this was a vet who, one would assume, would use a less violent way of destroying the animal.

captive bolt guns are used to”stun” an animal by destroying the brain but leaving the brain stem intact for bleeding out to keep the meat from spoiling.in the 1930s if an animal needed to be put down they used a bullet but some vets kept a small large caliber weapon called a “zip gun” in the vehicle but they used a black powder charge and a cap like an old rifle, most vets would just use a .44 caliber pistol or a .45 caliber rifle in those days so i don’t know what the movie was doing with a cigarette lighter from a car.anyone who has ever used a car lighter knows they cool very quickly after they are removed from the holder or at least the one in my 1930 pierce arrow wont light a cigarette by the time i leave the car.
