How to store cigarettes to keep them fresh?

A friend of mine recently ordered 6 cartons of cigarettes online. The seller accidentally double-shipped the order. If my friend decides to pay for the second order and keep all 12 cartons, some of them will need to be stored for a while. Can they be stored in a sealed container or humidor with a humidification device, like you would with cigars? Or is there a different, better way to store them?

NOTE TO ANTI-SMOKING ZEALOTS: if you have an answer that bears on the actual question, fine; but if you are just planning to lecture on the evils of smoking, then kindly go away and do not post. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you, so there is no need to say it again.

I used to store smokes in the freezer. It works pretty well, as long as there’s not a defrost cycle that will make them defrost and re-freeze over and over again.

They do tend to dry out when they’ve been in the freezer though. I suppose if you had the right equipment, you could re-hydrate them with a humidifier though.
