cuban cigars storage

Cigar is a cylindrical roll of tobacco. It is used in smoking with a wrapper leaf. Always, most expansive leaves are used in cigars. In terms of characteristics, it is stronger in odor and smoke. It bears pleasant flavor and good burning properties. As per historical evidences, cigar was introduced by Maya Indians in 10th century. Christopher Columbus and other explorers have revealed this fact in their notes.
?    Gustave Bock was a Dutch immigrant. He owned a cigar factory in Cuba in the 1830s. It is believed that it was the first to place a paper band around his cigars. It was just a paper ring with his signature.
?    Very soon, it prominently flourished and became very profitable business. However, now cigar rolling has become mechanized but still few prestigious companies adhere with traditional stuffs. They do mention phrase on the boxes such as ‘totalmente a mano (totally by hand) or hecho a mano (made by hand)’.

A glimpse upon manufacturing of premium Cigars
?    At first tobacco leaves pass through curing process and it takes approximately 25 to 45 days which depends upon climatic condition and construction of sheds or barns used to store harvested tobacco as well.
?    After curing, second process is fermentation. Under this process, major characteristics like flavor, burning, and aroma are primarily brought out in the leaf.
?    Once after properly being aged, leaves are used as filler. Under this process, these are continuously moistened and ensured proper utilization each leaf as per the quality.
?    Few premium brands cigars (viz. Acid Cigars, Padron Cigars, Ashton Cigars, Dominican Cigars) use special varieties of tobacco. For instance, long leaves are thoroughly used in long filler cigars which are supposed as higher quality of cigar.
?    For long term storage of cigar, lower storage temperature viz. 40C/400F is recommended. There are special storage boxes available in the market like wooden box or humidor. Such containers carefully control ideal conditions for longer period.

Packaging of cigars
?    The outermost portion or wrapper comes from the widest part of the plant and its color in itself speaks a lot about character and flavor of cigar. There is also a myth prevailing in the cigar market that the darker the wrapper, the fuller the flavor. One must keep in the mind that darkness refers to sweetness on the other hand light one means dryness to the taste.
?    Fillers are available in two forms either short or long. Recently an addition has been made of medium filler cigars. There is a special category of filler known as ‘sandwich or Cuban sandwich’. It is made by rolling short leaf inside long outer leaf.
?    Cigars are prominently categorized on the basis of shape and size and all together known as ‘vitola’. Few names under this category are Parejo, Figurado and little cigars.

After the development of printing industry, cigar got more vibrant looks and cigar companies prominently focused on branding of their products. During World War I, there was fall down in its popularity. But, it was remained for the very short span.

Among cigar smokers Cuban cigars are always abuzz.  However, legalized Cuban cigars aren’t as close as you might think.  Though there are many out there that suspect the embargo could be lifted in 2010, you can bet that there are other things that will have to happen before coveted Cubans are going to be legal in the USA.

Since the new administration has taken over, Barack Obama has discussed lifting the Cuban embargo and Cuban cigar lovers have salivated at the chance to get all the Cubans they can at reasonable prices.  It’s not likely, unfortunately, that this can happen overnight.  It is going to have to happen in stages and to quote Rush Limbaugh –“…you have no clue what is ahead of us as cigar smokers. What will happen is that the domestic manufacturers, defined by those who are in the Dominican and in Honduras, Nicaragua, Cameroon, all of the places where elements of cigars are grown, and all the places where they’re assembled, these people have in many cases marketed the brands of the Cuban cigars you’re talking about Hoyo De Monterrey, Punch, Simon Bolivar, all of these great Cuban brands have been marketed by other owners in the United States, and they are going to go to the Commerce Department, and they’re going to say we have made these brands popular, we have invested in the product and in the brand in this country, and they’re gonna ask the Commerce Department to ban the import of competing brand-name cigars from Cuba.â€

Though it’s likely that we’re going to have to wait a while for Cuba cigars to be legal in the US I think that once Cubans are legal there will be a huge surge of cigar smokers and cigar smoking.  Much like the storm of online poker websites and poker players hit once Texas Hold’em became popular the cigar world will see the biggest cigar boom it has ever seen if Cuban cigars are legalized in the US.

There are also other economic factors that come into play when you’re talking about legalizing the most coveted cigars on the planet.  The economies of Honduras, The Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua will be severely affected once legal Cuban cigars are available to the masses. But, as I stated before, these economies will eventually come back to life stronger than ever once everyone realizes that Cuban cigars aren’t really that much different than the cigars produced in the above mentioned countries.  Not to mention that once Cuba has to produce cigars for Americans its production will be so overdone that the likelihood of the quality control diminishing is quite strong.

So, if you’re crossing your fingers for 2010 to be the year that you’re able to get all the Cuban cigars you want without having to sneak them in – keep dreaming!  We’ve got a long way before stocking up on Cubans will be legal in the US!

cigar and pipe
Which should I smoke this fall while raking leaves? A pipe or a cigar?

And what type of tabacco if you say “pipe?”

I’d go with a cigar. If you knock a pipe out of your mouth it might hit the ground and break. If your cigar hits the ground you just light another one.
If you are going to burn the leaves in your yard you could smoke a pipeful of captain black. Burning leaves are the only thing that smell worse than that stuff. My favorite pipeweed is something very aromatic, heavy on the latakia. Captain Black smells like a barrel of molasses on fire.

What, exactly, are designer watches?

Are they even real watches, worthy of your collection?

This is not merely an academic question for those who care about watches and all the careful engineering and craftsmanship that go into “real” timepieces. Sure enough, so-called designer watches tell time – and that’s the purpose of a watch, after all. But real timepieces – as an horologist might put it – do much more than that.

Horologists are watch collectors and fanatics. For them, a watch is more than a useful tool. For horologists, watches are intellectual achievements to be prized, carefully considered as connoisseurs do their cigars or fine wines. A true watch represents imaginative majesty, translated into the grammar of springs and gears. True timepieces are bold statements, pronouncing not just the time and date but, ultimately, the refined character of the wearer.

Designer watches also make statements, of course. But what they say is typically superfluous, where real watches are concerned. They say nothing more than that they have been, ostensibly, designed by some famous designer. And what of the design? That can only be left as a matter involving subjective tastes. So what is there to consider? One either likes a certain design or look or one does not. There is simply no arguing over tastes. Tastes are subject to everything from transitory moods (which in turn may be caused by nothing more than a sudden rush of hormones) to cultural traditions (curiously, no pink-colored wrist bands have yet appeared to match all the pink shirts that are currently in vogue, even in the world of formal fashions).

A true watch, however, will admit of more conversation than that. Mechanical intricacies cannot be endlessly debated, because mechanical principles base their validity on only one concern: efficiency. It is better simply if it works better. But ironically, this does not prevent debate among horologists over the merits of different movements between different watches or brands. Whereas a designer watch is almost only about aesthetics, true watches inevitably solicit admiration for their engineering – as well as, as important asides, their looks. For such watches, being true timepieces, typically start at almost two thousand dollars and can fetch upwards of thirty or forty thousand – without much, if any, precious metals or gems! – and can never look bad at all. Most such watches are actually made for professional aviators or divers; hence the attention to detail and the obsession with specifications. Designer watches, on the other hand, simply need to sell, and to as many as possible. One is about meeting professional requirements, the other simply a business opportunity.

A few years ago, in 2006, the Nevada legislature imposed a public smoking ban.

The new rule doesn’t apply – as yet – to the storied casinos of Las Vegas, where smoking is still allowed on gaming floors. And of course Nevada is hardly the only recent state to impose restrictions on public smoking. Indeed, it joins over thirty states (at this writing) with such laws on the books. If you are reading this from the United States, it is likely that a similar law applies to your area: half the country’s population is currently under the jurisdiction of a public-smoking regulation of some kind.

But the idea of a smoking ban passing the Nevada legislature seems almost like a kind of spiritual defeat for cigar smokers: after all, what could more epitomize “cigar cool” than the mental image of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack, cigars and drinks in hand, finger-popping their ways through the floor of a Vegas casino?

It just symbolizes a fact that’s made passionate smokers’ lives a little more difficult over the past decade: in the interest of public health (and out of consideration for asthmatics and others), more and more city councils and state legislatures are choosing to ban public smoking outright, or are limiting it to certain licensed facilities.

Arguments about the effectiveness or appropriateness of these bans to one side, we can all agree that they mean that smokers have to put a little more energy into planning vacations. For a person who loves the taste of a good cigar, for whom relaxation doesn’t become meaningful until there’s a stogie involved, there’s no point in a vacation where you can’t even smoke in your hotel room. With smoking bans underway in Atlantic City (and this ban extends to casinos) and similar one-time bastions of cigar culture, frustrated cigar smokers are turning to a new option: the cruise ship.

And why not? Cruise ship vacations offer the ultimate chance to “get away from it all,” a continuous expanse of blue water, and the opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the country (and world). Few cruises are completely smoke-free, with most offering, at the very least, designated smoking areas that might include cigar bars or lounges. So it’s hard to go completely wrong – wherever you book your passage, you’ll almost always have at least some chance to smoke.

More and more luxury cruise lines don’t allow smoking in living quarters – that’s one downfall. After all, the next person using your room might be a nonsmoker, and it doesn’t make economic sense for cruise ship directors to designate permanent “smoking” and “nonsmoking” rooms; such a move would involve logistical nightmares during booking. But luxury quarters often include balconies, where smoking is sometimes still allowed.

The recent case of a cruise line headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida gives smokers an indication of what they can expect. The cruise line, according to some reports, lost millions in bookings after instituting a partial smoking ban in 2007. But compared to those bans that have caused smokers such dismay in Atlantic City and Ottawa, the Florida-based cruise line’s smoking ban doesn’t even apply to the on-ship bars and casinos.

Indeed, the cruise ship industry seems to be following the opposite track of most US states and municipalities – as they grow more restrictive toward smoking, cruise lines are growing more permissive. One completely smoke-free cruise ship line went out of business awhile ago; another once-smokeless line changed its policies to allow some smoking on the boat.

Smokers will likely want to evaluate cruise line policies prior to booking as there are has examples of ships with almost smoke-free policies. Smoking on such lines may only be permitted in two designated areas – and if you light up anywhere else, you could be kicked off the boat! (That presumably doesn’t mean you’ll be forced to walk the plank, but it’s probably not worth finding out.)

Another rule of thumb mentioned by several travel writers: if you’re looking for company as you smoke, go for a cruise line with a high number of European and Asian clientele. Citizens of many of these countries often still smoke in higher numbers than do contemporary Americans, and there is a Spain-based cruise line that currently sports the least restrictive smoking policy out there.

The number of cigar aficionados has been steadily increasing with cigar becoming chic once again. Many celebrities and social icons can be seen enjoying a stick of their favorite cigar in public gatherings adding to its ever growing popularity. Cigars are made in many parts of the world but the most sought after types of cigars are Cuban cigars or Havana cigars as they are widely called. Authentic Cuban cigars undergo multiple sets of intricate processes during production, giving them a unique taste and aroma that won a large number of enthusiasts.

After production, Havana cigars are distributed to selected authorized dealers around the world. The remaining portion will be divided among local cigar shops which are mostly located in Havana. Though there is a large demand for Cuban cigar around the world, its availability is very limited especially in western countries where a significant percent of cigar aficionados belong. The inability of producers to meet the demands for Cuban cigars has urged opportunists to produce counterfeits which of course taste poorly compared to its authentic counterpart and are made of low quality materials, degrading the name of genuine Cuban cigars. With the large number of fake Cuban cigars running around the market, here are certain things to take note of when looking for genuine Cuban cigars.

* Probably the safest way to buy genuine Cuban cigars is to travel to Havana where Cuba distributes most of its Habanos for local sale. Be wary however of locals that would approach and try to sell Havana cigars. Seeing how profitable the cigar business is, there are a number of locals that would sell fakes to foreigners at a cheaper price claiming that what they sell were stolen from cigar factories or other stories proving how genuine their goods are.

* Only buy cigars from well established cigar store, a number of cigar shops in Spain, Canada, United Kingdom, and other countries are famous for selling genuine Cuban cigar and have good reputation.

* If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is. If you’re new to cigars, find out the market price for different classes of Cuban cigars, anything sold with a big reduction in price is most probably counterfeit.

* Examine the box, make sure it is tightly sealed and has a warranty seal marked on it. Avoid buying Havana cigars that come in boxes that appear to be damaged or tampered.

* If you’re allowed to open the box, examine the cigar by smelling it, genuine Cuban cigars have very rich and strong aroma, and if you have a bit of experience with cigars you would easily identify which is genuine and which is counterfeit.

* If you’re planning to buy cigars online, examine the website first. Most well established businesses would make sure that they have a formidable website set up for online customers. You may search for customer reviews about them as well.

Remember however, displayed above are only general tips on how to avoid counterfeit Cuban cigars. Experience is the best teacher, once you get a hand of how cigar enthusiasts do their business, finding and buying genuine Cuban cigar will become easier.

smoking 10 cigarettes a day

smoking 10 cigarettes a day
Why do I almost faint after smoking the first cig of the day?

I have been smoking Camel Lights since I was 17. I am now almost 22. Recently, however, I’ve noticed more than ever that after smoking my first cigarette of the day I can hardly stand up. There have been times when I’ve gone to stand up and fallen, actually. I know that it is partially a nicotene high, but I know a lot of smokers and this doesn’t happen to them. Then, after I finally am able to get on my feet and go back inside, I get nauseated to the point that I can’t breathe. I often even end up throwing up. Why does this happen to me with my first cigarette of the day? I smoke about 8-10 cigarettes per day generally.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? Do I have a heart problem or something? I am not overweight and have no other health problems, am not on birth control or anything like that. Has anyone heard of this happening to anyone? It’s not just a nicotene high, it happens every morning and it’s very scary. Please refrain from telling me to quit smoking.

Hi… actually this could be because of a heart condition. You should go to your doctor ASAP. I began having the same problems (although I am not a smoker) and I was diagnosed with a heart condition. I am now on meds (they arent helping though, lol) and am glad I went because it could have gotten worse. Good luck!

I am 21 years old, BTW, if that helps.
