Nonetheless, there are timeless gift items that are ideal for Christmas present.

One of the most common corporate Christmas gifts you can give is gourmet Christmas gift basket since it suites any age, gender, and preference. Chocolates, sweets, cookies, and other types of goodies loaded in one basket will surely treated as special by anyone who receives it.

Christmas gift voucher is another ideal corporate Christmas gift you are give. If you want to give something from his or her favorite clothing line but you do not know his or her taste and size, then it is better to give a gift voucher than risking and wasting money for an item he or she would now even use. Christmas gift voucher however is not limited to clothes and apparel. There are gift vouchers for restaurants, health spa, special courses, and other consumer and non-consumer products.

Remember this: gift certificates and gift vouchers with specific amount are better than giving cash of the same value.

Collector’s items such as commemorative coins and historical artifacts are also ideal to people with great interest to such things. Fine-crafted items such as cigar box, crystals, leather products, etc are also fine gifts that can be given to executives and partners. The main aim here is to satisfy the recipient’s taste to luxury at the same time, give you the opportunity to be remembered for the gift you have given.

Other corporate Christmas gift ideas you can consider are apparel, automotive accessories, beauty products, bags and cases. pocket and purse items, office accessories, cards and bookmarks, pens and writing instruments, office supplies, snacks, food and beverage, planners, computer media and accessories, office equipment, golf equipment, sporting goods, sports accessories, electronics and gadgets, novelty items, hats and caps, health products, safety equipment, home and housewares, magnetic items, mugs, cups, and drinkware, tools and hardware items, outdoor items, watches, wine, spirit, and accessories

Whatever item you gift, giving a perfect gift does have to be based on the price alone. Rather, it should be based upon the proper selection that it treated with care, passion, and great respect.

Is there a name for the Mexican art that consists of little scenes made in miniature inside of cigar boxes?

I saw a show on TV about an artist who makes dioramas of everyday life in cigar boxes. I would like to buy one online, but I don’t know what to search for. Any ideas?
No, I can’t remember the show as it was a year ago that I saw it. But I wish I could!

this is actually very popular in mexico. you can easily find it there but you should think of buying your own cigar humidors than the ones that comes with the art. there are lots of artists who will still do art on the cigar humidors that you provide. this will also make sure that your cigars are safe. Check out: http://www.executivegiftshoppe.com/cigarhumidors.html. They have a pretty good range of cigar humidors.

The Cigar Boom: What It Was (And Is)

As the 1990s dawned, few industries seemed deader than cigar sales and manufacture.

>From its height in the 1850s – when Cuba alone exported 356.6 million cigars – the cigar had fallen into virtual moribundity. Its market had been conquered by cheap, ubiquitous cigarettes. Its image was tarnished in the United States by, among other things, the persistent (and not entirely unfounded) popular association between cigar smoking and the “fat cats” of the Gilded Age – a picture wedged into its place in the popular consciousness by the work of crusading editorial cartoonists.

By the late 1980s, the industry was flatlining, with an aging customer base and few new customers drifting in: the classic example of a product reaching what marketing experts call “old age.” That’s not to say “senility.”

But in 1992 something changed. (Not a bad year for it – with voters decisively rejecting Ronald Reagan’s vice president at the polls and heavy metal yielding to Nirvana, it was a year for change.) The number of imported cigars wafted gently upward during the fourth quarter of the year, yielding a four-percent increase over 1991. The following year, imports rose by ten percent.

The industry was elated. But no one was prepared for what came next – 12 percent growth in 1994, 33 percent growth in 1995, 36 percent first-quarter growth for 1996, shops unable to keep product on the shelves, backorders of 55 million units in 1996, retailers buying shopping-carts full of cigars from distributors and paying retail price just to keep their stores stocked. Women, for the first time, began smoking cigars in large numbers, and prices rose at a fast clip – the $2 premium cigar more or less disappeared over a three-year period. Cigar bars proliferated.

Cigar-friendly restaurants, well, came into existence.

What happened? One observer, Norman Sharp of the Cigar Association of America, told the New York Times in 1996 that the new prevalence of cigar bars goes back to a single Boston restaurant. “It started in the ’80s, when the Ritz-Carlton in Boston hosted a cigar dinner.”

In the same story, Sharp also gave credit to what he called “political correctness,” the all-purpose rhetorical villain of the 1990s. “People are saying they’re tired of being told what to do – or in this case, being told not to use tobacco – and turned to cigar smoking as a way of flipping the bird at well, somebody.

Other observers give some credit to Cigar Aficionado, launched in 1992, a quarterly glossy publication that improved cigars status in society. In Cigar Aficionado, alongside cigar reviews and industry news, you can also read up on new luxury goods, while enjoying interviews with prominent cigar smokers from Jack Nicholson to Whoopi Goldberg. As Runner’s World did for the nascent jogging movement of the 1970s, Cigar Aficionado transformed thousands of isolated cigar lovers into an interest group, simply by addressing them as one.

For another explanation, consider the growth in coffee consumption during the 1990s – the years when Starbucks conquered America. The new prominence of this old, almost stodgy beverage (not unlike the cigar in its public image) could be, and was, traced to the explosion in average working hours during the decade, when a centuries-long trend toward shorter working weeks ground, in the US though not in Europe, to a halt. Bedroom communities grew, while deep social ties grew frayed. American white-collar workers desperately needed something, some small pleasure or indulgence to take the sting out of their epic workweeks. Why not cigars?

Cigar Fox provides the finest cigars that include brands like Cohiba, Montecristo, Gurkha, Macanudo, Rocky Patel, Romeo, Drew Estate, and many more. The cigar box guitar is an instrument that has fascinated many guitar players, mainly in relation to whether they are real musical instruments. Many people who have learned how to make a cigar box guitar have done so simply to give their children something to amuse themselves with but the truth is they can make serious music. The origin of the cigar box guitar is in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when there were many people seeking to express themselves through music but could not afford to but real musical instruments. The use of homemade musical instruments like the cigar box guitar had a resurgence in the years of The Great Depression.

The need for improvised musical instruments led to the proliferation of jug bands which gave people the opportunity to play melodies and generate rhythm for dancing using homemade instruments. So musical gatherings featuring washtubs, spoons and kazoos became commonplace in communities all over America. Gourds with guitar necks attached originally provided the basis of homemade guitars but as cigars began to be shipped in small boxes and the boxes were left lying around the house, sooner or later somebody had to try them out as resonators for guitars. The neck for your average cigar box guitar was often a broom handle with one or two strings attached.

If you want to make your own cigar box guitar you will need some basic tools: a box cutter or pocket knife, a hacksaw, a drill, some fine and coarse grade sandpaper. The raw materials for making your guitar are: a cigar box, a one inch by two inch piece of lightweight soft wood (poplar is a good choice), a dozen one inch nails, wood glue, some wood stain and an applicator. To tune your cigar box guitar just buy three tuning pegs from your local musical instruments store. Their are plans available from expert cigar box guitar makers, in fact there is even a Yahoo Group you can join.

Once you have made your three string cigar box guitar you have several options for tuning. These tunings are from bass to treble: A E A, G D G, A E G.

Many guitar legends are supposed to have played cigar box guitars but not many are talking openly about it. Here is an unverified list of reputed cigar box guitar players who have made names for themselves using conventional instruments: Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins, jazz guitarist George Benson, epitome of refinement Ted Nugent plus other noted musicians like BB King and Jimi Hendrix.

There are also guitarists who make and play their cigar box guitars as their sole musical outlet. One cigar box guitar mover and shaker is Shane Speal, the curator of the National Cigar Box Guitar Museum in York, PA. Shane is archiving cigar box guitar history. He has found the earliest known plans for a cigar box banjo (circa 1870), unearthed etchings of Civil War Soldiers playing cigar the box fiddle and owns a genuine dated and signed cigar box violin from 1899.

John Lowe, a musician and bookstore owner from Memphis who makes electric cigar box guitars called Lowebows. They are made from two oak dowel rods, a wooden cigar box, three guitar strings and a bass string. You play Lowebow with a slide. Lowe’s repertoire has everything from Johnny Cash to Iggy Pop. You can find him busking on Beale Street.

Cigar Box Dobro?

Red Dog Guitars makes a wicked sounding cigar box dobro called The Hell Hound and I’d like to make one. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy the brass bridge/head/cap thingy?
The Dobro can be seen at http://www.reddogguitars.com/GFS1.html
FYI: this is more like a mini-dobro, not the full sized model. The cover plate shown at Red Dog is about half the normal size.

Stewart MacDonald will have all the supplies you need.

Music and cigars arenÂ’t something I usually equate with each other. In fact, cigars are almost the last type of smoke I think of when I turn the dial of the radio. If I hear Ryan Adams, I imagine him on stage surrounded by a grayish cloud, a cigarette dangling from his mouth. If I hear Bing Crosby, I imagine that his White Christmas also involves a black pipe. And, if I hear Willie Nelson, I think of a type of smoke sure to make him hungry for some Kenny Rogers Roasters. Cigars, however, donÂ’t typically cross my mind when I think of music.

It turns out this is a misconception on my part: cigars, or rather their boxes, contain some of the true roots of music.

Cigar box guitars are homemade guitars where used cigar boxes serve as the resonator, echoing the vibrations that cause sound. Used by many poverty stricken musicians, these instruments forever have a place in the history of song. In fact, cigar box guitars go all the way back to the 19th century.

Before 1840, according to the curator of the National Cigar Museum, Dr. Tony Hyman, cigars were not shipped in boxes but large crates, crates that would hold over 100 cigars at a time. These crates were found to be too big in size for efficient shipping and were eventually reduced into smaller crates that would hold much fewer sticks. And so, the cigar box was born.

About the time cigar boxes emerged, cigar smoking did as well: people from all walks of life indulged, leaving their cigar boxes empty in the process. Picked up by innovators and creators, these empty cigar boxes were quickly turned into guitars, banjos, and fiddles. Unbeknownst at the time, these instruments would soon give those who were too poor to afford a guitar a chance to experiment musically.

The earliest known cigar box instrument is believed to have been concocted during the Civil war. This is based on the discovery of a drawing by Edwin Forbes, a French artist working for the Union Army. This drawing features two soldiers sitting around a campfire, one watching the other play a cigar box fiddle.

Eras marked by poverty saw cigar box instruments, particularly cigar box guitars, begin to flourish. Both the blues movement and the emergence of jug bands are believed to have been facilitated, at least in part, by cigar box guitars and the Great Depression, leaving so many people broke and out of work, became a catalyst for these homemade instruments.

During these times, many people couldnÂ’t afford guitars so they simply made their own. Using cigar boxes, screen wire and broom handles, as well as anything else they could find, countless children made playable instruments. Since these instruments were made by so many different people, they had many different varieties. Some cigar box guitars had one string, some had three or four. Some had frets up the neck, some did not. Some of the creators built their guitar and simply moved on, some grew up to be the trail blazers of rock and roll.

Among the notable musicians believed to have played cigar box guitars at some point are Carl Perkins, Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, Ted Nugent, BB King, and Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Part of so much of our nationÂ’s musical past, the cigar box guitar has an entire museum dedicated to it. The National Cigar Box Guitar Museum is located in York, Pennsylvania and features a wide display of various cigar box guitars as well as the stories of the legendary musicians who played them.

Anywhere that sells wooden boxes/Cigar boxes for cheap?

I’m planning on customising a bunch of wooden boxes, like jewelry boxes. But I can’t find anywhere that sells them for cheap. most websites have already done thiers up and I dont want to spend loads of money on them only to do my own things to them.
Does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells anything like it? or empty wooden Cigar boxes; because that would have the same effect. i want a few but the cheaper the better I say!
The closer to manchester the better. but i’m getting a bit desperate!

thanks :)

Ok, if you’re prepared to go wholesale there’s a company near Blackpool that imports wooden boxes from Poland, DarPol I believe they are called.

Their boxes are usually pre-decorated but at wholesale they are well priced and they may have some simpler designs (I used to order chess sets from them – so only paid a little attention to their other lines).

Hope this is of some use.

Celluloid is generally regarded as the first modern plastic. It was introduced in 1871 by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company of Albany, NY. The use of celluloid began with the manufacturing of billiard balls and was intended as a replacement for ivory. However, by the late 1800s it was used for all sorts of products from billiard balls to bobbin lace prickers, bracelets, button hooks, buttons, cameo brooches, cameo earrings, charm bracelets, dolls, folding toothpicks, fountain pen bodies, guitar picks, hair combs, hand mirrors, hat pins, knife handles, letter openers, match safes, mechanical pencils, money clips, necklaces, paperweights, pin-packs, pocket mirrors, ring boxes, rulers, shoehorns, stick pins, tatting shuttles, thimbles, toys, vanity boxes and many other items.

The celluloid products mentioned above were made between the late 1800s and 1940s. Buttons were made by the millions for use on clothing and jewelry such as brooches, earrings, bracelets and necklaces also saw wide spread use. Vintage fountain pen bodies made of celluloid are a very popular collectible today.

Some of these products were advertising giveaways distributed by every kind of business all across the United States. The most popular advertising celluloid giveaways were pin-backs and pocket mirrors. The principal producers of advertising celluloid pin-back buttons were the Whitehead and Hoag Company of Newark, NJ, American Artworks of Cochocton, OH, The St. Louis Button Company and Bastian Brothers of Rochester, NY. This same group of manufacturers, along with two others in Chicago, the Partisian Novelty Company and the Cruver Manufacturing Company, used celluloid for the backs of advertising pocket mirrors.

Celluloid was not the best of all materials to use for the prized collectibles, as it was very flammable. Table Tennis balls are the only products known to use celluloid today.

The best place to find vintage celluloid products and advertising celluloid products is eBay.

Cigars are perishable products, and if not stored properly, cigars will dry out, become brittle, and lose their ability to provide exquisite smoking pleasure. To keep cigars at their peak freshness and flavor, they must be stored in a humidor, says Ourcigarettes.net, a leading online distributor of brand name, premium cigars from around the world.
When smoking cigars that are improperly stored, some of the following problems can occur: uneven or too rapid burn, harsh or bitter taste, broken wrapper, difficulty lighting or keeping the cigar lit, mold, or tiny holes in the cigar.
“Proper cigar storage is crucial,” said David Cagan, general manager of Ourcigarettes.net. “You wouldn’t leave your hard earned money lying around, or leave your car unlocked in a bad neighborhood. You protect the things you value, so why would you leave your cigars lying on your desk?”
Cigars shouldn’t be stored in the original cigar box because they require a critical element: proper humidity. In order to properly store a cigar, a fine balance must be maintained between the humidity and temperature at which they are stored. It is commonly agreed that 70% humidity and 70 degrees Fahrenheit is the best environment for long-term consistency.
All humidors require three essential components for maintaining humidity: a humidification unit attached to the inner lid of the humidor that includes housing; a substance to hold the moisture; and a hygrometer which allows you to check the humidity level of your humidor at a glance.
Humidors should also have durable hinges to ensure low-friction functioning for many years, and be well sealed and close tightly so that very little humidity may escape from the humidor. The basic construction of the humidor should ensure that high humidity inside the humidor will not result in deformations of the humidor case or lid and that the humidors will still close neatly after years of usage.
When using a humidor for the first time, it’s important to allow it time to “season.” This could take anywhere from a few days to a week or more depending on the size of the humidor. With brand new humidors it is helpful to use a sponge saturated in distilled water and “bathe” the inside walls of the humidor, followed up with a dry wipe to remove any water drops. Check the humidifier and hygrometer in the humidor until the humidity level reaches between 65-70%.
