If you are wondering will lutein improve vision, you may have seen or heard a commercial for a health supplement. Here are the facts that were probably not included in that commercial.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two powerful antioxidants that are highly concentrated in the macula, a small area of the retina responsible for central vision and good visual acuity. Some studies indicate that increased intake helps reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration or AMD. Some studies have concluded that high supplementation (10mg zeaxanthin, 50mg lutein) lowers the risk of cataracts and may actually improve visual acuity in AMD by 20% or more.

So, if you have AMD and you are wondering will lutein improve vision, the answer is “maybe”. It is difficult to be more certain than that, because so many other factors come into play. Every health problem that affects other parts of your body also affects visual acuity. Many health problems increase the risk of AMD. If you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, then supplementation may not help. If you are obese or your diet is high in fat, it may not help.

Promising results from a single supplement when there are so many other factors to consider would be dishonest. Yet, some manufacturers focus only on the possible benefits and never mention the importance of a healthy diet and regular physical activity.

If you do not have AMD and you are wondering will lutein improve vision, some people have reported improved eyesight after improving their nutritional intake with a totally balanced supplement. A single nutrient is probably a waste of time. Here’s a question for you. How’s your diet?

If you run through the day grabbing fast foods or snacks from the vending machine and then come home at night to eat meat and potatoes, then a good multi-nutritional supplement that includes mixed carotenoids should help you see better. If you remember being told to eat your carrots, there was a good reason for that. We didn’t know much about different antioxidants, until recently, but we have known for many years that eating carrots supports eye health, because of the carotenoids they contain.

The problem today is that most of the supplements on the market contain synthetic vitamins. There is now way to be sure that the synthetics are beneficial at all. If the latest studies are any indication, they probably are not.

The answer to will lutein improve vision might depend upon where the manufacturer got it. Is the source natural or is it a petrochemical? Many people are surprised to learn that their vitamins contain petrochemicals. People that would never expose themselves to cigarette smoke are ingesting possible carcinogens, every day.

Not all petrochemicals are carcinogenic, at least as far as we know, but many of them are. They are all made in the same factory. It is safe to assume that petrochemicals are bad for our health.

Luckily, there are some reputable manufacturers that use only natural ingredients. Now, instead of asking will lutein improve vision, why not learn more about how to choose a good multi-nutritional supplement.

A Global History Of Tobacco

Tobacco’s history goes back too far to trace. Paleontologists project that it may have begun growing in the Americas as long as 8000 years ago, and archaeological data indicates that folks have been smoking it, one way or another, four almost four thousand years.

It was natives of the Americas who first showed the many and varied ways that tobacco can become part of the life of a culture. Among some native communities, it saw religious use (in extremely heavy doses), a practice that survives among today’s Cree and Ojibway.

It was part of inter-tribal trade (both as a commodity and, when smoked in pipes, as a way to formally seal a bargain); and it was a ritual, a way of marking the specialness of any occasion. As the poet and cultural commentator Wendell Berry once observed, stimulant use in these cultures was celebratory, convivial, and occasional – not the furtive, obsessive, and solitary pursuit it’s become for so many of us. But in addition to its ritual uses, tobacco could also be left uncured and eaten, drunk, or used in enemas.

Unfortunately, this plant that had so enriched the lives of America’s original inhabitants would soon imperil them. European adventurers discovered tobacco’s unique appeal on arriving in America in 1492 and after; desiring to increase tobacco production, Europeans seized native lands, fought native people, and imported African slaves to maximize the profit-making opportunities tied up in this little plant. The story of John Rolfe, founder of the Virginia Jamestown Settlement and future husband of Pocahontas, is instructive – we all heard about this brave explorer in elementary school, without learning that his mission in Virginia was to steal lands to grow tobacco. Whatever the morality of Rolfe’s business venture, or of the colonialist project in which it formed a part, Rolfe was certainly a successful businessman, developing improved strains of the plant and shipping 40,000 pounds of it to England by the year 1620.

Tobacco was controversial among Europeans from the beginning. King James I called it “lothsome to the eye, hatefull to the Nose, harmefull to the braine, dangerous to the Lungs, and in the blacke stinking fume thereof, neerest resembling the horrible Stigian smoke of the pit that is bottomelesse.” James I wrote those words in 1604 – not coincidentally, the year in which the English imposed heavy tariffs on the importation of the stuff.

Tobacco was a lodestone for the economy of the American South, and the use of it was accordingly well-nigh everywhere. Soldiers and farmers chewed, smoked and dipped it.

The tobacco industry grew throughout the Americas, as well, and was especially closely linked to the life of Cuba, where the finest tobacco grew. The Crimean War (1853-1856) offered the plant another boost in popularity, as Turkish tobacco achieves general availability in Europe for the first time. Smoking rooms, smoking jackets, even smoking caps and slippers become part of every Victorian gentleman’s home, and fashion plate Prince Edward, despite his mother Queen Victoria’s well-known hatred of smoking, promotes smoking by his own well-remarked example. In 1855, the decade’s halfway point, Cuba exports 356.6 million cigars – a record yet to be equaled.

Cigar Fox provides the finest cigars that include brands like Cohiba, Montecristo, Gurkha, Macanudo, Rocky Patel, Romeo, Drew Estate, and many more. Other cigar products include cigar humidors, cigar boxes, and cigar accessories like Zippo Lighters. For more information, please visit www.cigarfox.com.

According to the Pew Research Center, the total population of the U.S. corrections system – probation, parole, jail and prison – exceeds 7.3 million. That’s 1 out of every 31 U.S. adults. Two-thirds of offenders are on probation or parole and the average, annual cost of managing each one is $1,250-$2,750. The average, annual cost of managing a prisoner is $29,000. That’s why 90% of corrections spending is spent on prisoners. New community supervision strategies for low-risk offenders have proven to reduce recidivism by as much as 30%. Crime doesn’t pay – we pay for crime.

Today many people would think it was a crime not to wash their hair every day, but before 1908 women usually washed their hair once a month. In 1908 the New York Times published a column saying it was alright to shampoo twice a month. Decades later TV marketing convinced people daily washing was healthy for hair. Now Americans wash their hair on average 4.59 times a week – twice as much as Italians and Spaniards – and according to dermatologists, that’s too much. Too much washing can damage hair by stripping it of beneficial sebum oil. Dermatologists recommend washing hair 2-3 times a week – hair-raising advice for many Americans.

San Diego State University did a hair-raising study which looked at the number of tanning salons per capita in 116 of the largest U.S. cities. Charleston, West Virginia had the highest density of salons with 18 for 53,000 people; Pittsburgh was second with 93 for 350,000; and Akron was third with 57 for 217,000. In spite of the dangers of UV rays – skin cancer, immune suppression and eye damage – an average of 1 million people use tanning salons a day, with 70% being females ages 16-29. Obviously, 1 million people a day don’t think the dangers are “tan-gible”.

Because of the dangers of smoking, China’s health minister has urged doctors and medical workers to quit smoking to set an example for others. According to the China Preventive Medicine Association, 56.8% of China’s doctors smoke – the highest percentage in the world. Now the Association has launched a campaign to make medical schools, hospitals and associations smoke-free by 2010. Considering China is the world’s largest tobacco market with approximately 350 million smokers who buy 2 trillion cigarettes a year, the doctors are going to have to set a very good example or the Association’s plans could go up in smoke.

list of cigar companies

It is always wiser doing some research before traveling. A little research for the ease and getting that perfect vacation. Like the case of Crossing Canada, officers at the border would as much as possible make the inspection fast and smooth. So if you really need that trip to Canada make sure you know what you SHOULD know.

Follow the lanes. If there are no lanes for the RV, take the Bus lane or the truck lane, but bear with the slow moving on the truck’s lane. Some Rvs are too big and would be too wide for the car or bus lane its most likely that the mirrors are located on side.Always have an identification ready with you. If you are a US citizen you won’t need a passport. The rest make sure to have it. US citizens are instead required to show proof of citizenship. Kids as well. RV registration cards should be carried with you if you own it. However if you rented it, you should bring valid documentations from your rental company.

Cigarettes anyone? If you are 18 years and older you can carry 100 cigars except Cuban cigars, 200 grams of tobacco and or 200 sticks of tobacco. How about alcohols? Alcohols to bring are limited. Wine should not be more than 1.5 liters, not more than 1 liter of liquor.

If you are bringing pets with you, make sure that they have a certificate and the owner must be present. And that your animal buddy should have had taken vaccinations issued by a licensed veterinarian. If you are bringing equipments with you make sure that you declare it at the customs so you won’t have problem bringing them back into the US or to justify that you originally bought it in the US. The same goes with the firearms. And of course it is illegal to import firearms into Canada. Or when going back to the US.

When returning back to US from Canada, you would be going back to the same procedure. Remember the lanes you should take. Make sure to have a list of your purchases so receipts would be the best documents for proof. Take note that if you’ve stayed in Canada for over 48 hours, you may return back to US without duty or tax bringing $400 (based on fair retail value in Canada) worth of articles for personal or household use. If less than 48 hours, the maximum is $200. Also considered duty-free are 100 non-Cuban cigars, one liter of alcohol and one carton of cigarettes.

A little bad news for vegetarians though, it is recommended that you don’t bring fresh fruits, vegetables or meat into the United States. If you would be, contact APHIS (Animal and Plant Inspection Service) and get a copy of Traveler’s Tips, which lists what you can and can’t bring and also items for which you’ll need a permit. Unprocessed plant products, cuttings, seeds and some endangered species that may be allowed in th US would need to have import permits. Pets are allowed in the US but then again they should be accompanied by the owner, and vaccinations complete issued by a licensed veterinarian.
