The image of a gentleman smoking a fine cigar evokes many a scenario. There are many occasions for a fine cigar: the reward at the end of a long struggle, the victory at a poker table, the celebrations after the birth of a child, the end of tough business negotiations, a fine outing with a son or grandson, the heat of battle, the song of a woman humming in the den after a night at the opera. Mostly, the occasion for a fine cigar is one that evokes the view of men as gentlemen, a view that is presently experiencing resurgence, and for good reason.

Gone are the not-so-glory days of the boy-man whose pants are at the ready to fall down around his ankles, and who has experienced neither a proper shave nor a good haircut. Oh no–a quality cigar brings to mind not only a man, but a gentleman who understands what it is to go to a real barber, and that going to a real barber is something that takes time. He understands what a handkerchief is for, and that it isn’t just for keeping his own nose clean. Fine cigars are part of a gentleman’s lifestyle. He is a man who owns (and on occasion wears) cufflinks, who wears aftershave and knows what Bay Run is for. He knows that women really do love to see a man wearing a handsome pair of suspenders.

Yes, there is indeed a mystique around the kind of man who smokes fine cigars, an image of a gentleman who knows quality in all things and why quality is important, from institutional connections to connections that have been obtained from years of attending the school of life. This is the kind of man who brings a Mona Lisa smile to the women in his life, whether she is his dear friend, sweetheart, fiancé, wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter or granddaughter. Whoever she is, she knows what kind of cigars he smokes, and the idea of giving a box of fine cigars to this gentleman for the holidays brings her the pleasure of giving. That’s because buying such a man his favorite cigars not only means that she loves him, but it means that she understands him.

It’s important to find the right kind of cigar for the right gentlemen. A quality cigar may be obtained online or at brick and mortar stores. Remember, too, that quality cigars are something that must be cared for and kept as fresh as possible in humidors to ensure the perfect moisture level for the perfect cigar-smoking experience.

zippo lighter repair

Before you can enjoy smoking that pipe, you’ll need to learn how to light it properly. Of course, one of the most enjoyable aspects of pipe smoking is the type of tobacco that you choose, but quite a few people actually find the entire process relaxing and enjoyable. That said, you will need to take several steps prior to lighting up that pipe. What are they?

The right tools are essential to lighting your pipe. In addition to a pipe tamper, cleaner and aerator, you’ll need a quality lighter. You should choose to make use of a butane lighter, such as lighters with a cigar cutter, or another form of lighter. However, make sure that such a dual flame configuration offers a traditional flame, as well as a torch. A torch flame can actually damage your bowl beyond repair. Now that you have your tools, it’s time to start. Lay your tobacco out and remove any clumps from it. You should then pack your bowl, loosely.

Once you have packed the bowl to the rim, you should make use of the tamper to work around the inside of the bowl. Tamp it gently; do not tamp it very tightly. If you pack it too hard, you will not be able to draw sufficient air through the pipe, forcing you to work hard and relight many times before you’re done with the bowl. You can test the packing job by drawing gently on the pipe stem. If it’s hard, unpack the bowl and start over.

Now that the bowl has been packed, you should move on to the lighting aspect. Hold the lighter above the bowl. Draw in air gently; you should see the flame bend to touch the tobacco, but do not let the tobacco ignite right now. All you want here is to start the tobacco smoking. Once it is, put down the lighter and tamp the tobacco back down to its original position.

The next step is the real lighting. Once more, hold the lighter above the tobacco and draw gently on the pipe stem. Allow the flame to brush the tobacco and then whirl the flame around in the bowl so that all the tobacco lights. Do not get the tobacco too hot now, or it will taste foul. Once the pipe is going, you can simply enjoy a relaxing smoke.

cigar store wooden indians

There’s only one way to know if your advertising copy is any good. It’s the same way that your customer knows it-it sells!

We are not all born copywriters, but we are all born customers. As a natural born customer, you can recognize good copy…

Step outside yourself and read the copy fresh: does it reach out and connect with you, does it hold your interest, does it promise something real that you really want, does it convince you?

“It has been said that advertising space without good copy is like the wooden Indian in
front of a cigar store:  It locates the store but it doesn’t say anything.” Thus began an article about advertising copy written in the year the Titanic went down. What else did this sage of sales have to say in 1912?

“Good advertising copy does three things:
         First:    Attracts attention.
         Second:  Interests the reader.
         Third:   Convinces the reader.

“The first mission of an advertisement… is to attract attention.  The attention of the reader may be secured by pictures, trade marks, striking headlines… Copy must be terse, clear cut, and to the point. It must consist of short, crisp sentences. Long words should be avoided where possible.  This is a busy world.  Few people have time for long-winded descriptions and explanations.” (Churchill, for one, agrees: “Short words are best, and the old words when short are best of all.”)

Then and now, you know if the copy pulls you in. Even if it’s your product-even if it’s your copy-you know. Now for gaining and keeping interest…

“To make your advertising interesting, you must not only set forth the merits and quality of the article advertised, but you must make clear how it will benefit the purchaser. For example, if you are advertising a moving picture machine for use in the home… Point out the great benefit to be derived from the ownership of such a machine.

“Tell how it will entertain the whole family and their friends both young and old.  How it will help to keep the boys at home in the evenings… In selling an automobile the important thing to advertise is… the pleasure that the car affords; the joy and healthfulness of riding through the country… how it makes it convenient to call on distant friends, etc. etc.

“To tell what the article advertised will do for the purchaser in the way of entertainment, education, comfort, convenience, etc., is really of more importance than the thing itself.”

These words may have been written over 100 years ago but it’s hard to express it any better today, which is why you’re reading them here.

Next, the bottom line-convincing the reader. That bottom line is right where it has been all along, because it is not drawn in the sand of fashion; it has nothing (and everything) to do with hemlines and bumpers. The bottom line is drawn in the unchanging human heart.

“A salesman must first sell to himself before he can sell it to others… The advertisement that brings the best results is the one that is written by the man who honestly believes in the goods that he is selling.”

Does that conviction come through? You’ll know when it does, because it’s more contagious than influenza. Ted Nicholas, “The Guru of Direct Mail Marketing,” is as savvy today as the wise man of 1912. “Certain words produce amazing results, as if by magic. All you desire in life, including everlasting wealth, can be yours depending on the words with which you express yourself.  As with all the great truths, once known, they seem so simple.”

There’s an old saying, “Be your own best customer.” That’s all the more true when it comes to judging your advertising.

cigar acid

cigar acid

If you are someone who enjoys cigars, then you definitely require a humidor. A humidor is an essential item that will allow you to maintain the quality of your cigars. The storage box used for shipping cigars is meant for shipment only and will not keep your cigars in their best condition for a long time. Many cigars should be  stored for as long as six years before they reach their optimal smoking condition. If you don’t have a humidor, your cigars will likely spoil before you smoke them and you will not be able to age them as recommended.  Your cigars will quickly become dry, acquire an acidic taste and will burn unevenly.

The first thing you should decide while buying a humidor is the capacity you require and where you will place it. The size you choose will depend on whether you wish to keep it at home, in the office, at your club, or even if you wish to bring it along with you when you travel. Humidors with a capacity of twelve to twenty cigars are a good size for traveling as well for storage at your club. Humidors that hold up to 100 cigars should be fine for the home or office and can be placed on your desk or a shelf. If you have over three hundred cigars, then you should opt for a humidor cabinet to store them.

Once you have decided on the size of the humidor you are going to buy for your cigars, you should next focus on the materials and workmanship, making sure they are of good quality. The best  humidors are constructed in a way that allows maximum air circulation inside the humidor.  Travel-sized humidors are normally made from metal to protect not only the contents but the case as well from being ruined. The lining of the humidors should either be Honduran mahogany or Spanish cedar. Spanish cedar is a great option because it protects against tobacco worms and supports the cigar aging process.

A good humidor should be large enough to comfortably and loosely hold your cigars. If you have more than one type of cigar, you should choose a humidor with dividers so that the tastes don’t blend. Next you have to check that the box is well sealed when the lid is shut and that humidity does not escape from the box.

Almost every humidor includes a hygrometer and some type of humidification device. Maintaining the humidity of the cigars in very important. Dry cigars tend to become fragile and burn faster, and the cigar develops a bitter flavor. On the other hand, damp cigars burn slowly and unevenly and may have a heavy, acidic flavor.  The hygrometer may be either digital read-out or an analog dial that shows the humidity level inside the box. Both  methods function equally well.  As you can see many factors influence the purchase of a quality humidor, however it’s an important investment in order to preserve the quality of your cigars.

Champix (Varenicline) – Quit smoking with the latest smoking cessation drug

If you are above the age of 18 and want an aid to quit smoking, get Champix varenicline. It is manufactured by Pfizer and is only available on prescription. If you have made up your mind to quit smoking, ask a doctor if Champix varenicline is right for you. If you quit smoking with Champix (varenicline), it will help you by curbing nicotine cravings and reducing withdrawal symptoms. Champix also helps by reducing the pleasure associated with smoking.

About Champix – Quit smoking drug

The active ingredient in Champix is varenicline and it works by interfering with nicotine receptors in the brain. This part of the brain is related to smoking addiction. Champix affects nicotine receptor in two ways – first it imitates nicotine and attaches itself to the receptor to give the same pleasure like that of nicotine and second it blocks nicotine from attaching to receptors as varenicline binds to the receptors more tightly.

Champix varenicline quadruples the chances of successful smoking cessation as compared to quitting smoking without an aid. As Champix does not contain nicotine like some other quit smoking aids, it is non-addictive in nature. This helps you quit smoking without having to resort to other forms of nicotine.

Ingredients and strength of Champix

The active ingredient in Champix is varenicline. It is non-addictive in nature and mimics the effect of nicotine in brain. This relieves withdrawal symptoms and nicotine cravings and makes it easy for you to quit smoking.

  • Dosage and strength

Champix varenicline comes in a weekly dose pack and the starter pack lasts for two weeks. The starter pack includes 0.5mg tablets and 1mg tablets, which are coloured white and light blue respectively. This helps in easy recognition.

The recommended standard dosage for Champix varenicline is as follows:

Days 1-3 — 0.5mg once daily

Days 4-7 — 0.5mg twice daily (morning & evening)

Days 8-End of primary treatment — 1.0mg twice daily (morning & evening)

If you continue to take Champix varenicline for further abstinence, you can take two Champix tabletsof 1mg from the 9th day until the end of the treatment. Normally, this is the standard dosage to quit smoking, recommended by doctors.

Always take Champix varenicline after eating and with a full glass of water and do not double dose if you miss a dose, just continue as normal.

If your doctor prescribes some other dosage schedule than the standard recommended dosage, follow his instructions. The schedule of your current medications or your tolerance level may have resulted in dosing difference.

Side effects of Champix varenicline

Champix side effects can be mild or severe, temporary or permanent for different people depending on individual body type. The most common side effect of Champix varenicline is nausea. Most people who take Champix to quit smoking do not necessarily experience side effects. Nevertheless, it is important that you know about them, so that you will know during the quit smoking treatment, if you experience any side effect of Champix varenicline. You may or may not experience one or any of the side effects mentioned below:

  • abdominal pain
  • appetite changes
  • exhaustion
  • constipation
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • flatulence (passing gas)
  • headache
  • heartburn
  • vomiting
  • rash
  • sleeping problem (difficulty sleeping or abnormal dreams)
  • gingivitis

If you experience any of the above side effects of Champix varenicline and they become specifically bothersome, inform your doctor immediately.

Is Champix a safe quit smoking drug?

There are certain people and situations for which Champix varenicline is not safe. Other than that you can proceed to take Champix varenicline after consulting a doctor.

  • If you are below 18 years of age or above 65 years of age
  • If you are pregnant or are a lactating mother
  • If you are allergic to varenicline or any other ingredient of Champix
  • If you have kidney problems
  • If you are taking medications for asthma, diabetes, vitamin or herbal tablets or blood thinners

If you have any such problems, do not take Champix varenicline to quit smoking.

Remember, it may not always be easy to stop smoking, but with patience and persistence you may emerge as a winner.

6 cigarettes a day

6 cigarettes a day
Is 4 or 5 cigarettes a day normal?

I usually smoke 4 or 5 cigaretes a day. Sometime with friends 6 or 7. Is it normal, I feel nothing wrong with my health. Actually whenever i feel lonely and boring, I just smoke and its effect remains for 3 or 4 hours then again i feel to have smoke.
I want to know how much cigarettes a day are normal and what should i eat or drink instead of cigarette when I feeling boring.
my age : 23
occupation: studing B-Tech in computer science

Hi there,
“4-5 cigarettes” normal ?
Smoking itself is abnormal , boss.
You claim to be saying , that you are “abslotely normal”.
But the scientific fact is that, whatever you are smoking in the younger age group, the effects of the smoking in your younger age group, will become evident when you become older and older…understood ?
Effects will be there in all organs. for example, whenever you smoke, “nicotene effects” will start appearing in the “lung tissue”, and these changes will start appearing in the small “blood vessesls” of the lungs too…immediately, there will be no problems…but when these tiny tiny changes start accummulating, and at the later age, it will reflect as a bigger problem and then it will be too late for us to do any repair..understood ? like this, different organs will reflect different changes, which involves “coronary vessels” which supply to the heart…
Have you not heard the saying “prevention is better than cure ” ? Whoever said that, really meant it, boss..
so, I feel that, it is time for you to think..”think seriously” …okay ?
ultimately the “choice” is yours…
best wishes…

general cigar company

In tobacco-related news: Recent reports in several media outlets throw some light on the deepening problem that illegal small cigar factories, known as chinchals, pose for the Cuban government. It turns out that other United States neighbors face similar problems in managing the flow of tobacco.

A flurry of news reports suggests that Canada is having trouble controlling contraband tobacco–generally tobacco either stolen from producers or sold off-the-books in order to avoid the country’s high tobacco taxes. The scale of the problem? No one’s entirely sure, but one of the largest Canadian tobacco companies has suggested that untaxed revenue from contraband tobacco is costing the country billions of dollars. And in a recession, that’s not chump change.

The same study (funded by industry groups) found that up to thirty percent of the tobacco used in Canada is illegal. That number balloons to forty or fifty percent in places like Ontario and Quebec.

One reason this is a serious issue is such tobacco, often sold on the super-cheap in bulk to consumers for a rate that amounts to pennies per cigarette, does not have to clear any health, safety, or quality control boards.

In addition, the larger the trade gets, the bigger the revenue that the government misses out on taxing–which creates big problems for a society with such a generous tradition of social spending. It also means lower sales for convenience stores and other legitimate businesses, not to mention the tobacco companies themselves, who figure their lost revenue at nine hundred million.

Where is this tobacco coming from? The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (who seize large amounts of the stuff every year) say it’s coming from the United States. More specifically, they trace some of the tobacco to the Akwesasne Mohawk reserve near Ontario, which extends across the US-Canada border. Thus the problem with enforcement: the tobacco is coming from a place that crosses national boundaries, and has a certain amount of limited freedom from both. Several levels of a couple different governments need to be enlisted in any effort to significantly reduce the tobacco influx … as well as, most likely, a study of who is producing this tobacco, and what economic, social or legislative changes might reduce their incentive to do so.

In the meantime, say critics, the Canadian government could at least prohibit sales of tobacco products such as rolling papers to those who don’t, you know, have a license to make or sell tobacco products.

In any case, news reports don’t mention a widespread illegal-cigar tobacco problem. And cigars do indeed represent a less attractive option for counterfeiters. Cigar aficionados are looking for better-quality cigar tobacco, and part of the reason for growing illegal cigar tobacco is that you don’t have to do quality control. Also, chopped-up cheap tobacco is easier to transport and hide than the full-leaf kind that tends to make a great cigar. Illegal cigar-making tends only to happen in cases where there’s a strong incentive to do so, as in Cuba … and people don’t exactly stream across the border for these great Canadian cigars.

Still, in a troubled economy, how long before we can expect to see similar problems arise in the other areas? In the meantime, the Canadians’ problem is one more reason to buy cigars from a trustworthy, known source.
