rolling cigarette tobacco

Broadly speaking, both non-smokers and smokers alike are for the most part cognizant of the many life-threatening consequences of smoking tobacco, ranging from afflictions like bronchitis to lung cancer. Despite this, the fact is that there is manifold other parts of your physical structure, as well as umpteen facets of an individuals life that can be hard hard by the consequences of smoking tobacco.

Two typically acknowledged diseases caused largely a consequence of smoking tobacco are bronchitis and lung cancer nonetheless, did you understand that smoking cigarettes tobacco is the chief causal agency of heart attacks as well? Did you realize that a number of distinguishable cancers are likewise considered to be sparked off by the adverse effects of smoking tobacco including but not bounded to many dissimilar types of cancer impacting the liver, bladder, throat, larynx, throat, mouth and tongue, large intestine and mayhap astonishingly cancer of the bloodstream?

Contrary to popular opinion, cigarettes are not merely rolled tobacco as a number of people by nature believe. The tobacco companies deliberately adds other elements to step-up the addictiveness from the tobacco. In that respect there is more or less 4,000 different chemicals in the smoke from cigarettes, an immense number of them, harmful. It is not just your own well-being in peril, have you ever considered the outcomes of cigarette smoking on your money box ? A man or woman smoking one pack daily will come near to costing themselves over $3500 every year on cigarettes. That’s not even bringing up how that sum could rise in a savings account!

The aftermaths of cigarette smoking also extend to other people as well. People who find themselves subject to passive smoke inhale 15% of the amount of nicotine as a person who actively smokes tobacco. That figures out out at around every 10 cigarettes you smoke in the fellowship of your children, it is not dissimilar than if they smoked 1.5 cigarettes of their own. Does anyone know if it is any good and how strong it is?

What non-commercial cat toys do your cats like?

Mine like the clear plastic containers with the snap on lids that toys come in from the ‘gumball’ machines. I put a couple of pennies in them then seal the lid. They love to bat them around.

They also LOVE the little fluffy crafts balls that you can get at Wal-Mart in the craft dept. (Mine like the shiny ones). They usually come a bunch in a bag (which is good because they lose them all the time!)

And a favorite of one of my cats is a crushed up cigarette pack or box (with the celephane left on). That is her “throw and fetch” toy.

candy cigarettes

by: Geoff Ficke

In 1927 the Austrian inventor Eduard Haas introduced PEZ as an aid to curb smokers urges to engage in the unhealthy habit of smoking. Haas was an early anti-smoking crusader. Even in the early 20th century it was widely understood that smoking was a vile practice with potentially dire health consequences for users who engaged in the habit on a regular basis. Governments too, understood that smoking had dangerous long term effects on smokers health, and accordingly began to assess stiff excise taxes on sales of cigarettes.

PEZ were originally peppermint flavored. The word PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint. Mr. Haas believed that peppermint would energize the sense of taste and mute the smokers desire for smoking cigarettes as the flavor of burning tobacco smoke was believed to be unpleasant with peppermint in the body. For 25 years PEZ were sold in pharmacies in Europe and by today’s standards would be considered a modest commercial success.

The evolution of PEZ from an over the counter health aid to a candy took place before and during the World War II years. As much of Germany and the European continent lay in ruins Mr. Haas recognized that smoking was becoming more popular among many people. Smoking was one of the few relaxants readily available on the severely diminished retail marketplace of the time. Though an ardent evangelist opposed to smoking, Haas understood that his business would collapse unless he reinvented PEZ. The peppermint flavor of PEZ made the product an ideal candidate to be remarketed as a candy product.

In 1952 Eduard Haas began to export PEZ candy into the United States. Sales were initially very sluggish. American consumers did not respond to the strong, almost overwhelming peppermint flavor of PEZ candies. At this point Eduard Haas made a decision which provides an excellent teaching moment for entrepreneurs seeking to reposition their product.

Haas withdrew PEZ candy from the market, but he did not do so to close the brand down. He repackaged the candies, using new colors and fruit flavors that children especially enjoyed. The overpowering German peppermint was toned down significantly. Most importantly, the packaging of PEZ candies was reworked to possess the features of a child’s toy with cute animal heads that acted as a spring load delivery system to engage, and almost magically produce each piece of the candy. Children loved the interactivity of the packaging and the fruity treats that they delivered.

As a result of Eduard Haas reinvention of PEZ he created an iconic candy brand. The sales success and popularity of PEZ have continued unabated to this day. Very few consumers, even if they do not eat PEZ, fail to recognize PEZ when they see the cute little colored, animal inspired packages of the sweet.

Many inventors, entrepreneurs or small businesses hang their hats on a signature, “alpha” product. When or if sales lag they are flummoxed. What can be done to resurrect the brand? A new marketing strategy? New Branding? Redesigned packaging graphics? New distribution channels? These and other options must be considered. However, the Eduard Haas option, to reinvent the “alpha” product as a completely new item with fresh features and benefits is rarely considered. It should be.

smoking cigars in the house

Jamaica is known for a rich culture and heritage of cigar making and tobacco farming. The quality and taste of Jamaican cigars cannot be compared with cigars manufactured elsewhere. Wide varieties of cigars are being made on this Caribbean island, and Jamaican tobaccos, using centuries old traditions, provide the finest possible smoking experience. Barrington House Premium Jamaican Cigars is one of the world’s leading cigar companies, and is the last bastion of cigar manufacturing in Jamaica, providing premium cigars to the most discriminating connoisseurs. It was the dream of Barrington Adams, to revive the culture of cigar making in Jamaica. Jamaica has had a centuries long tradition of manufacturing fine cigars. High labor cost and severe weather conditions lead to the decline of this industry, but, after finding success as a real estate entrepreneur in New York, Jamaican native, Barrington Adams, wanted to restore the former cigar powerhouse to its premier role in the worldwide cigar industry. He decided to give back to his native island, and began his efforts to revive the Jamaica cigar industry. Today, Barrington House Premium Jamaican Cigars is leading the resurgence of the Jamaican cigar industry.

Barrington House cigars are hand-rolled in Jamaica, under expert supervision, using the finest blends of Jamaican tobacco. Barrington House prides itself in maintaining the highest possible quality and consistency of cigar manufacturing. The company is providing the finest premium Jamaican cigars to the United States, Canada and Europe.  Barrington House is also now distributing in Asia, as the popularity of Jamaican cigars returns to its former status in the world markets.

Barrington House emphasizes the utilization of the finest Jamaican tobaccos, which are known for their smoothness and aroma, and are highly satisfying, fulfilling the needs of expert cigar smokers around the world. For all those who have been used to, and comfortable with, the aroma and taste of Cuban cigars, it should be noted that Jamaica and Cuba have very similar climates and soil conditions, which results in Jamaican tobacco being among the best in the world.

Barrington House manufactures flavored cigars, which have become increasingly popular. The Harvill cigars are created using fine flavors including Rum, Vanilla and Passion Rum.  This international best-seller is hand-made in Jamaica.   For the purist, Barrington House has reintroduced the exquisite Santa Cruz Jamaican Puro and continues to produce cigars using the original blends created by Cuban ex-pat and master cigar blender Jimmy Chang, including Jimmy Chang’s original blend for the Jamaican Macanudo (Barrington House is not presently associated with Macanudo which is now a registered trademark that is owned by General Cigar Company).  Jimmy Chang’s original Jamaican blend is available as the “Guaranteed Jamaican Founders Edition” and as the vintage “Fundadores” available through Barrington House.

Barrington House is the only producer of true Jamaican premium cigars.  Other companies may label their cigars “Jamaican” or “Jamaica”, but only Barrington House manufactures premium cigars in Jamaica, hand-rolled, using on the finest prime Jamaican tobacco.  Barrington House has brought back the finest traditions of the Jamaican cigar industry, long known for fine and mild tobaccos and the highest quality smoking experience.

zippo lighter shell

Cigar smoking is all about shared pleasure. After all, it swept Victorian England and became a national pastime in part because it gave men something to do with their hands while they talked after dinner. And it took off during the so-called “cigar boom” of the 1990s in part because new publications, online forums, cigar clubs, and other social venues allowed cigar smokers to talk about their passion.

So it’s no surprise to find cigar-related events all over the social calendar of smokers around the world. In addition to the lavish, expensive Big Smoke conventions put on by Cigar Aficionado magazine – at least two a year, in Las Vegas and New York City – there’s the Ybor City festival in Tampa, Florida, free and open to the public. And that’s just November. Check out a few other, more-exotic possibilities from all over the globe.

The Dominican Republic is the world’s largest source of premium cigars, surpassing even Cuba (from which many of the country’s cigar-making families and technologies emigrated during the years after Castro). La Aurora, Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, and La Gloria Cubana, among many others, all operate there, and as of 2007, it has its own yearly cigar festival as well! Taking place in Santiago, the two-day Procigar Festival (the first of which took place March 5-7, 2008) featured cigar factory tours, visits to tobacco fields, chances to hobnob with some of the world’s greatest cigar makers, and cigar-and-liquor matchups. Companies such as La Aurora, General Cigar Co., and Tabacalera de Garcia, among others, participated, and the inaugural bow was successful enough to motivate a second – to be held February 16-20, 2009.

While you’re there, if you go, you may want to check out some of the other sights offered by this important Latin American cultural capital. The Dominican Republic was the first place permanently settled by Europeans anywhere in either American continent – the oldest cathedrals, universities, and European-made roads can all be found there. Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, butts up against its southern coast, offering breathtaking views (the Procigar Festival takes place far further north, in Santiago, but the country is not super-large in total area). Four mountain ranges decorate the country; the Cordillera Central (“Central Mountain Range”) approaches Santiago, so visitors to the Procigar Festival could also schedule a day trip to see Pico Duarte, the jewel of the Cordillera Central and the highest peak in the West Indies (over 3000 meters). And, of course, Santiago is itself located in the Cibao valley – between the Cordillera Central and Corillera Septentrional (“Northern Mountain Range”), which run parallel to each other – and it’s this rich and fertile area that houses most of the country’s farms, including its tobacco farms.

Or you could follow in author James Joyce’s footsteps and visit Zurich, Switzerland, where the expatriate Irish modernist polymath-writer completed large sections of his surreal novel Finnegans Wake, and where the Whiskyship sails every November. (What is it with November and cigar events?) This whisky-tasting event, which also offers three hundred premium cigars for the sampling, allows those with sharp noses and tastebuds to enjoy single malt whiskies from all over the world, and to enjoy the companies of folks with similar tastes. The 2008 Whiskyship will be the tenth such event. Switzerland, of course, features all sorts of other attractions – among other things, there’s the James Joyce Foundation, but also, you know, mountains and pristine lakes and thousands of years’ worth of European scenery – and would be worth a visit regardless.

Another possibility – albeit somewhat closer to home, at least for North American smokers – is the Nebraska Cigar Festival in Lincoln. Taking place in late November (which pits it against the Ybor City Festival and the two CA Big Smokes in drawing the attention of Midwestern cigar fanatics who don’t feel like going to Zurich), the one-evening event brings in cigars, munchies and a pair of drink tickets for those willing to shell out the admission fees and deal with early-winter Midwestern cold.

How to store cigarettes to keep them fresh?

A friend of mine recently ordered 6 cartons of cigarettes online. The seller accidentally double-shipped the order. If my friend decides to pay for the second order and keep all 12 cartons, some of them will need to be stored for a while. Can they be stored in a sealed container or humidor with a humidification device, like you would with cigars? Or is there a different, better way to store them?

NOTE TO ANTI-SMOKING ZEALOTS: if you have an answer that bears on the actual question, fine; but if you are just planning to lecture on the evils of smoking, then kindly go away and do not post. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you, so there is no need to say it again.

I used to store smokes in the freezer. It works pretty well, as long as there’s not a defrost cycle that will make them defrost and re-freeze over and over again.

They do tend to dry out when they’ve been in the freezer though. I suppose if you had the right equipment, you could re-hydrate them with a humidifier though.
