If you want to spend your vacation in the Caribbean Islands, the most difficult part of your vacation planning is choosing the island you want to visit or deciding how many island you can visit during your holiday. There are over 7,000 islands in the Caribbean Sea and most of them can make a great holiday destination. While some of them like the Bahamas, Aruba, Barbados or the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic are well known tourist destinations, there are several less known islands like Curacao, Saba Island, St. Kitts and Nevis Island or St. Vincent and the Grenadines Island where you can spend an unforgettable holiday. Most of the islands have beautiful beaches some of which are always present in the top ten beaches of the world. Access between islands is made by plane and by boat. A great way to visit several islands is to take a Caribbean cruise. There are several companies offering cruises with stops on different islands and activities for all kinds of tourists.

While a lot of the islands where the tourism industry is more developed have all inclusive resorts where prices can be quite high especially in the seasons, you can still enjoy a holiday on a Caribbean island with a limited budget. One of the new tourism trends that are rapidly growing all over the world is the eco-tourism and the agro-tourism. This pretty much means that you can stay in privately owned houses that are run by the locals and are cheaper than hotels. Food can be relatively inexpensive and even though there are a lot of fast food restaurants, one is always encouraged to try the Caribbean cuisine and eat where the locals eat. The huge number of things to do and things to see available on the islands make your decision of where to spend your Caribbean holiday even more difficult. A series of water sport and outdoor activities are available on most of the islands. Also if you are just interested on lying in the sun and swimming in the ocean, pretty much any island can do.

However, if you are looking for more than that, you should think of a list of things you would like to do and then decide on an island. If your holiday is just for you and your loved one, you should check Jamaica, St. Lucia or Bermuda. Aruba, Bahamas and St. Kitts and Nevis are the islands to visit if the whole family is going. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are known for their parties so if you are not planning to sleep too many nights you can choose one of these islands. There is at least one island that has the activity you want to do, thus if you like to gamble there are several casinos around the islands. You can go shopping of visiting museums, you can sit in a café and have a refreshing rum cocktail or you can try one of the many outdoor activities available. Several of the islands have golf courses and offer the possibility of water related activities like diving, scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing or sailing. Some of the islands preferred for diving are the Grand Cayman, the Turks and Caicos, and the St. Croix.

The Caribbean islands are famous for many things like the beaches, the music, the food, the coffee, the cigars, the nightlife, the diving, golfing and tennis possibilities, the pirates that make great stories, the cruises, the shopping, the festivals and carnivals taking place on the island throughout the year. If you want to visit a tobacco factory you can do it in Cuba and if you want to visit a coffee plant you can do it in Jamaica. Music and food are the result of the many cultures that can be found on the islands. Everybody knows Bob Marley is from Jamaica, everybody knows what reggae is and where to try the best rum in the world. For music lovers there are several Jazz and Blues Festivals, the Carnival happens on different islands during the year and each island has its own events and celebrations. For example in Puerto Rico you can be part of the feast of the Three Kings, in Trinidad or Curacao you can experience the Carnivals and in Bermuda you can enjoy the International Film Festival. Except for the hurricane season which usually happens from July to September, there is always something to do, something to see or an event to take part of in the Caribbean islands.

Dad’s 50th birthday present?

We’re having a surprise 50th birthday party for my father on October 30. I am having trouble trying to think of a gift to give him. He likes electronics (he loves my iPhone, but he wouldn’t want one). He also smokes cigars and has an entire smoke room in his house with all of his cigars/accessories…. Every year for his birthday I usually get him a new torch lighter, ashtray or cigar cutter (I don’t want to do that this year) but this is a BIG birthday and I want to get him a gift that he’s really going to love.

Any suggestions?
rev. – He has about 10 humidors already!! haha

If u’re on the market for new cigars…message me. My boss owens a cigar shop.

Other then that…a new camera?

cigar aging

Fine tobacco is the heart of premium cigars. Try a premium cigar like a Fonseca Vintage Lonsdale Tubo and taste the world’s finest-quality cigar tobacco. The wonderful flavor and aroma of a great cigar will make you appreciate all the work that went into its creation, and work it is!

First, high-grade cigar tobacco leaves are harvested and aged using a process that combines the use of heat and shade to reduce sugar and water content without causing the large leaves to rot. This first part of the process, called “curing,” takes 25 to 45 days and varies substantially, depending on climate and storage conditions for the harvested tobacco. The curing process is manipulated based upon the type of tobacco and the desired leaf color. The second part of the process, called “fermentation,” is designed to help the leaf die slowly. Temperature and humidity are controlled to ensure that the leaf continues to ferment without rotting or disintegrating. This is where the flavor, burning and aroma characteristics are finessed.

After the tobacco leaves are properly aged, they are sorted for use as filler or wrapper, depending on their appearance and quality. During this process, the leaves are continually moistened and handled carefully to ensure its best use. The leaf will go through a continuous cycle of baling and inspection throughout its aging process. When the leaf has matured according to the manufacturer’s specifications, it will be used in the production of a cigar.

Fine-quality cigars are still handmade. An experienced cigar-roller can produce hundreds of very good, nearly identical, cigars per day. The rollers keep the tobacco moist–especially the wrapper–and use specially designed crescent-shaped knives, called chavetas, to form the filler and wrapper leaves quickly and accurately. Once rolled, the cigars are stored in wooden forms as they dry, in which their uncapped ends are cut to a uniform size. From this stage, the cigar is a complete product that can be “laid down” and aged for decades if kept as close to 70°F (21°C) and 70% relative humidity, as the environment will allow.

Once cigars have been purchased, proper storage is usually accomplished by keeping the cigars in a specialized box, or humidor, where conditions can be carefully controlled for long periods of time. Even if a cigar becomes dry, it can be successfully re-humidified as long as it has not been handled carelessly.

Premium-brand cigars are made with different varieties of tobacco for the filler and the wrapper. “Long-filler cigars” are a far higher quality of cigar, using long leaves throughout. These cigars also use a third variety of tobacco leaf, a “binder,” between the filler and the outer wrapper. This permits the makers to use more delicate and attractive leaves as a wrapper. These high-quality cigars almost always blend varieties of tobacco. Even Cuban long-filler cigars will combine tobaccos from different parts of the island to encompass several different flavors.

Are there any good websites/auctions good for selling cigars?

Does anyone know any good websites or auctions good for selling cigars? Ebay has a policy against tobacco and Yahoo auctions, although excellent, are aimed more towards the US market?

Do any others exist?

liverpool cigars

iPod in hand as I flick through the tracks I stop, the music begins to fill me head as I remember that same feeling as I did maybe 20 years ago.

London in the eighties there is nothing quite like going to London to see a musical, the excitement of that childhood trip I remember well. Early mornings here in Liverpool and the anticipation of the Pullman train journey down to Euston station in London when my father had to go on business.

My mother, sister and I were promised a trip shopping in London coupled with a musical. A sense of anticipation grew as the day went on, arriving at the Cumberland hotel while mother adorned in here fur coat discussed what seats were available for which shows. I guess it was about 1982 and a host of Andrew Lloyd Webber productions were being staged in the West End, Starlight Express, Sunset Boulevard, The Phantom of the Opera coupled with the rock musical Time or Mutiny on the Bounty. How times have changed.

Then little girls wore long dresses and ladies in cocktail dresses whilst the men wore black tie and evening jackets a really sense of occasion and like all young children my sister and I simply loved getting dresses up.

Finally the moment arrived seated in the centre circle waiting for the curtain to raise my sister on my left with mum and dad seated to my right , opera glasses in hand star struck waiting for the orchestra to play that first note. It mattered not which musical or even which theatre just those stage lights and that compelling tune that fills the theatre. On this occasion it happened to Sunset Boulevard and the curtained began to raise.

I knew from the very first time I watched my first musical that I would be a life long theatre goer and would dream of one day performing upon that stage. The music filled my head and my heart and the show began. There is no experience quiet like it and the glamour of the eighties theatre nights were there for everyone too see.

Before you knew where we were it was the interval, as the ladies and gentlemen flowed into the bar there was a silver tray with the name Warwick upon it our order already for us at the bar in the theatre, refreshments for all . Cigarettes and cigars lit the room filled with chatter of the performances while the air filled with the smell of cigars.

Five minutes ten minutes who knows soon we were seated back in our velvet seats again waiting for the final encounter. I will never forget the performance of an aged Hollywood star trying to deal with the end of the silent era a wonderful story moving and yet enlightening. The music seemed timeless and the experience will forever stick in my memory, ever show as memorable as the last ever performance unique.

Finally the audience raised the roof with applause standing clapping endlessness as the performers re-entered the stage to take there curtain call louder and louder the theatre rang with applause. Peering over the centre circle to take one last look at the stage I can remember that feeling a slight tear in my eye produced by happiness and a slight yawn as it was way past my bedtime. A family experience that once taken you would never forget.

As I lay in my bed that night I can remember seeing the lights and hearing the music melodically soothing me to sleep.

cuban cigars club

Ask any Tampa homeowner what the best area of Tampa is to own and undoubtedly they will ramble off the usual suspects: South Tampa, Hyde Park, Carrollwood, New Tampa, or Westchase.  While these are indeed fabulous historic districts with established Tampa homes and subdivisions, eclectic neighborhoods and prime real estate, the trade off can be a hefty mortgage and probably a lot less square footage for your money when compared to other areas.  It is estimated that the average price of a South Tampa home is 91% higher than the average home in all of Tampa (Gtar.org, n.d.).

The good news is that searching for the perfect Tampa home doesn’t mean tightening your belt so eating becomes a luxury, nor does it mean settling for a less than stellar neighborhood where your kids can’t play outside.  Consider a Tampa home in Seminole Heights, Riverside Heights, Lutz, Citrus Park, and Ybor City, to name a few areas.  Homes in these neighborhoods boast great schools, modest prices, historic districts near great restaurants and nightlife, and in some cases, newer Tampa home construction.

Seminole Heights, Riverside Heights, West Tampa, and Ybor City represent a piece of Tampa where the coveted historic district charm of bungalow style Tampa homes meets the affordable pricing of the continuously evolving neighborhood. Schools in these Tampa home neighborhoods offer magnet programs in aerospace sciences, math, technology, performing arts, and international studies in the “A” graded school district of Hillsborough County.  An endless array of Cuban and Spanish restaurants among other great Italian, Greek, and Japanese sushi spots are local. Ybor City has a thriving Cuban cigar business as well as a rich nightlife of clubs, events, and center called Centro Ybor.  Since this area of Tampa is still experiencing the shift that Hyde Park did during the 1970s and 1980s, these Tampa homes are more reasonably priced than their South Tampa counterparts. Preservation of the quaint bungalow style homes in Seminole Heights occurs as the neighborhood offers the unique Tampa home pride in a non-deed restricted community.

A short drive north and a Tampa home buyer can find properties in Citrus Park and Lutz.  All of the above mentioned amenities apply with the added peace of mind of recent construction. New shopping malls have even been erected to accommodate this growing area.

Deciding on a neighborhood to purchase a Tampa home can be as daunting, if not more, than deciding on the home.  In order to mollify some of the stress of the process, consider making a list of the top ten must-haves in a neighborhood, the first two being non-negotiable.  Then, take a drive through the area around various times of the day and week to get a realistic image of its liveliness.  And finally, don’t forget to do your research!

last cigarette on my teeth

Everybody keeps track of how their teeth look like as they get old, this is actually a subconscious process and in people who are heavily obsessed about their physical appearance the changes may be even more obvious. During our childhood years we were blessed with pearly-white teeth however, as our eating habits change so will the appearance of our teeth, let’s take a look at some of the factors which play a huge role in changing the appearance and natural color of our teeth as the years go by.

Medications:

When it comes to teeth discoloration that many people consider the fact that some of the drugs and medications they use on a daily basis may be affecting the aesthetics of their teeth. Mouthwash liquids which contain chemicals such as cetylpyridinium chloride and chlorhexidine can contribute to teeth discoloration, so will antipsychotic and antihypertensive drugs. Medications which contain tetracycline and doxycycline are also linked to the decay of the natural look of our teeth.

Foods and drinks:

These are the most common factors linked to teeth discoloration because they are consumed on a day-to-day basis, products such as carbonated drinks (colas), coffee, tea, wines and even certain fruits and vegetables such as apples are said to change the natural color of the minerals which are found in our teeth.

The diseases and treatments:

Not many people talk about diseases or the treatments which are applied to a patient in order to heal them to be the possible cause of discoloration but the sad truth is that they are. Certain infections which may be acquired by pregnant mothers may end up like in the child’s enamel furthermore, chemotherapy as will as head and neck radiation may cause rapid discoloration.

Tobacco, cigarettes and poor oral hygiene:

These are very common causes for teeth discoloration, it is common knowledge that chewing or smoking tobacco/cigarettes and severely stain a person’s teeth so will inadequate brushing and flossing on a regular basis.

There are several other causes which may be linked to discoloration such as age and many others, however these are the most common reasons for a person’s teeth to change their natural color as time goes by, the best way to preserve a beautiful color is to keep a good hygiene, not to consume products which will obviously affect our oral aesthetics and to visit the dentist at least twice a year.
